Sun Country Airlines is sold to the Davis family

Sun Country Airlines (MN Airlines, LLC dba) (Minneapolis/St. Paul) announced on July 20 that its parent has sold Sun Country Airlines to a private company owned by the Davis family of St. Peter, Minnesota, the owners of Cambria Holdings, LLC. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Sun Country Airlines to fly to Costa Rica

Sun Country Airlines (Minneapolis/St. Paul) has announced new international service between Minneapolis/St. Paul and Liberia, Costa Rica. The new service will be the only nonstop flight from Minnesota/St. Paul to Liberia. The new flights will operate weekly from January 13 through April 13, 2012 departing from and returning to the Twin Cities on Fridays. The seasonal service will offer both first class and coach seating on Sun Countryโ€™s Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

Sun Country inaugurates service to Washington’s Reagan National Airport

Sun Country Airlines (Minneapolis/St. Paul) on April 1 celebrated their inaugural flight to Washington Reagan National Airport that departed from Terminal 2 โ€“ Humphrey at 6:00 am. This flight commenced the new service to Washington D.C., now flying six times a week through April 30, 2011 and daily beginning May 1, 2011. The round trip flights will originate in Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN with an intermediate stop at the Capital Region International Airport in Lansing, MI before continuing onto Washington, D.C.

Sun Country celebrated the inaugural flight with a Ribbon Cutting ceremony hosted by the St. Paul Chamber of Commerce and Metropolitan Airport Commission at Terminal 2 โ€“ Humphrey. Inaugural receptions also took place at the Lansing Capital Region Airport and Reagan National Airport.

Sun Country Airlines to fly for Apple Vacations from Dallas/Fort Worth

Sun Country Airlines (Minneapolis/St. Paul) will be flying for Apple Vacations from DFW to Puna Cana. Apple Vacations has announced new exclusive vacation flights to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic from Dallas-Ft. Worth International Airport. Nonstop flights on Sun Country to Punta Cana will depart on Sunday and Thursday mornings, operating from June 2 through August 11, 2011 for 3, 4, 7, 10 and 14 night durations.

Who will purchase Sun Country Airlines?

Sun Country Airlines (Minneapolis/St. Paul) has been adding routes and emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization on February 23, 2011. Trustee Doug Kelley, who will now control 56% of the stock of the new company, has stated he will probably accept a bid from an unnamed outside bidder to acquire the airline. Sun Country Airlines is now operating OO-JAA in TUI colors

Sun Country Airlines (Minneapolis/St. Paul) is again operating this airframe. Boeing 737-8BK OO-JAA (msn 29960) was leased from Jetairfly on October 7, 2010 for the winter season. OO-JAA still wears the basic Jetairfly/TUI color scheme, but now with Sun Country titles. Sun Country previously operated this airliner as N811SY in their colors.

Sun Country Airlines (Minneapolis/St. Paul) has been awarded rights to serve the Lansing, MI-Washington (Reagan National) route.

Sun Country Airlines to operate to London Gatwick again this summer

Sun Country Airlines (Minneapolis/St. Paul) has announced it will again operate a MSP-London Gatwick (via a refueling stop) twice-weekly service from May 27, 2011 through September 4, 2011.
