QANTAS is reaching out to its customers to formally apologize for recent operational challenges

QANTAS Airways made this announcement:

  • Direct apology is being sent to millions of Frequent Flyers
  • Operational performance improving, with plan in place to bring Qantas โ€˜back to its bestโ€™
  • Frequent Flyers offered $50 towards a return flight from Australia or New Zealand
  • 12 month extension of status for Silver Frequent Flyers and above
  • Up to 50 per cent increase to Classic Reward seat availability extended; first release of additional seats from midday Monday

Qantas is reaching out to millions of its customers to formally apologise for recent operational challenges and thank them for their patience as the national carrier works to get back to its best after COVID.

The airline is rolling out a range of initiatives to improve mishandled bags and on time performance as it also deals with high levels of sick leave (due to flu, COVID and isolation requirements) as well as an industry-wide labour shortage.

Qantas has hired 1,500 new people since April with more to come, adjusted flight schedules and invested $15 million in new technology at key airports to help smooth the travel experience.

Speaking directly to Frequent Flyers via an email and video message being sent on Monday, Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce acknowledged while it was great to see people back on-board after so long on the ground, the return to flying hasnโ€™t all gone smoothly.

โ€œOver the past few months, too many of you have had flights delayed, flights cancelled and bags misplaced. There are good reasons why, but when it comes to what you expect from Qantas, itโ€™s not good enough.

โ€œOn behalf of the national carrier, I want to apologise and assure you that weโ€™re working hard to get back to our best.

โ€œWeโ€™re already seeing a sustained improvement in baggage handling and on-time performance, and while factors out of our control like weather can have an impact on our schedule, we expect things to keep improving each week.

โ€œAs well as saying sorry, we also want to say thank you. Weโ€™re investing in a range of initiatives including status extensions for Frequent Flyers Silver and above, thousands of Qantas Points and lounge passes. All our Frequent Flyers in Australia and New Zealand will be offered $50 towards a return Qantas flight, which equates to many millions in discounts,โ€ added Mr Joyce.

Qantas will also extend its commitment of up to 50 per cent more Classic Reward seat availability through to 30 June 2023 with the first tranche of additional seats released from 12pm Monday across international and domestic flights. Reward seats are booked using Qantas Points.

Qantas first announced its commitment to increasing Classic Reward seats in October last year. Since then, Frequent Flyers have redeemed more than 80 billion Qantas Points, with one in every 11 passengers carried by Qantas flying a reward seat.

Summary of bonus benefits

Status extension:

12 months status extension across tiered members Silver and above to continue to enjoy the benefits associated with their tier for another year.

Flight discount offer:

$50 off flight promo code for Australian and New Zealand-based Qantas Frequent Flyer members to redeem towards a return Qantas flight.

For Gold members, an invitation to visit a Qantas Domestic Business Lounge, or for Silver members, an invitation to visit the Qantas Club or an international Business Lounge.

Qantas Points:

A gift of Qantas Points for Platinum and Platinum One members.

An email will be sent to Qantas Frequent Flyers from Monday with details on the offers along with a video message from Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce with a direct apology to customers for the airlineโ€™s recent performance issues.

American Airlines flight operated by an All-Black Female Crew in Honor of Bessie Coleman

American Airlines hosted the Bessie Coleman Aviation All-Stars tour to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the first Black woman to earn a pilotโ€™s license in 1921. She bravely broke down barriers within the world of aviation and paved the path for many to follow.

To honor her legacy, American hosted Gigi Coleman, Bessieโ€™s great niece, on a flight from Dallas-Fort Worth to Phoenix. The flight was operated by an all-Black Female crew โ€” from the pilots and Flight Attendants to the Cargo team members and the aviation maintenance technician.

American is being intentional in its efforts to diversify the flight deck. Black women have been notably underrepresented in the aviation industry, especially as pilots, representing less than 1% in the commercial airline industry. Through the American Airlines Cadet Academy, the airline is committed to expanding awareness of and increasing accessibility to the pilot career within diverse communities.

TAAG increases flights to Cabinda, Maputo, Windhoek, and Sรฃo Paulo

TAAG Angola Airlines will reinforce flights within domestic and international destinations, providing passengers with greater availability and options while scheduling their trips. Consequently, the following destinations Cabinda (Angola), Maputo (Mozambique), Windhoek (Namibia) and Saฬƒo Paulo (Brazil) will have additional frequencies, as follows:

Luanda > Cabinda

From August 13th. Weekly frequencies increase from 24 to 26 flights. Additional flights to be operated on Saturday and Sunday by a Boeing 737-700 aircraft.

Luanda > Maputo

From October 2nd. Weekly frequencies increase from 3 to 4 flights, with the additional flight being operated on Sunday by a Boeing 737-700 aircraft.

Luanda > Windhoek

From October 2nd. Weekly frequencies increase from 4 to 5 flights, with the additional flight being operated on Sunday by a Dash 8-400 aircraft.

Luanda > Saฬƒo Paulo

From the 5th of November. Increase in weekly frequencies from 3 to 4 flights, with the additional LAD/GRU flight operated on Saturday (the return flight to Luanda will be carried out on Sunday) by a Boeing 777-300 aircraft.

In other news, the airline previously made this announcement:

TAAG Angola Airlines will receive six aircraft Airbus A220-300 to be delivered in phases – from 2023 until 2024 – after a lease agreement with ALC which is placing the orders to Airbus manufacture. Moreover, 5 of 6 aircraft ordered are scheduled to be delivered between January-July 2023.

TAAG is therefore reinforcing the fleet and for the first time introducing a ยซmulti-brandยป strategy by incorporating the Airbus into its operation. The lease agreement format was the most agile and financially sustainable model complying with the company’s current context.

The Airbus A220-300 are state-of-the-art aircraft concerning efficiency and average fuel consumption. TAAG expects savings of around 30% in fuels – when compared to existing Boeing 737 models on long-haul routes – and a 20% reduction in operational cost globally.

VAS Aero Services acquires four Airbus A330-300s and 11 engines from American

VAS Aero Services, a global leader in aviation logistics and aftermarket services, announced it has acquired four Airbus A330-300 airframes and 11 Pratt & Whitney PW4168 engines from Fort Worth, TX-based American Airlines, the largest commercial air carrier in the US.

The four Airbus A330-300 widebody aircraft were retired from Americanโ€™s fleet in 2020. Adding to the breadth and depth of VASโ€™s already significant aftermarket parts inventory, the airframes will be allocated for teardown and the surplus parts distributed through VASโ€™s worldwide airline operator customer base.
The Pratt & Whitney PW4168 engines will be placed with VASโ€™s aftermarket services partner, SR Technics, for engine lease pool support and ultimately disassembled to increase their Used Serviceable Material (USM) availability. The addition of the PW engines further strengthens VASโ€™s Supply Program with SR Technics and offers major end users favorable green-time leasing options and vital USM solutions.
