StarLux takes delivery of its first Airbus A330neo

StarLux Airlines has made this announcement:

STARLUX Airlinesย will takeย delivery of its first A330neo B-58301 today inย Toulouse, France. The aircraft will arrive at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport atย 16:15ย onย February 19thย local time. STARLUX was the first airline inย Taiwanย to purchase an A321neo, which was flown back toย Taiwanย personally by K.W. Chang, the company’s chairman. STARLUX is now the first airline inย Taiwanย to take delivery of an A330neo.

Company chairman K.W. Chang said, “My team and I had spent much time evaluating and discussing the selection of the optimal mid-range aircraft to augment our current line A321neos and A350 XWBs, expanding the range of our fleet to full strength, covering short, mid and long range flights. The efficiency of the A330neo is outstanding by bringing together enhanced technologies and highly efficient Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines. In addition, pilots can easily acquire type rating for various aircraft that make up the Airbus family. I am delighted to welcome our first A330neo, as it marks a key milestone in our growth. With the addition of the A330neo, STARLUX can deploy our fleet more flexibly and provide our service to more passengers over regional routes.”

STARLUX intends to lease eight A330neos. The B-58301 is the first of these and will be put into service after the approval process and required crew training is completed in May. Three more will be added to the fleet this year. The A330neos will gradually fly additional routes to major cities within theย Asia-Pacificย region includingย Macau,ย Ho Chi Minh City,ย Singapore,ย Bangkokย andย Tokyo.

Powered by the latest Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines, the A330neo provides an unprecedented level of efficiency โ€” with 12% lower fuel burn per flight than previous generation competitors โ€” and provides significant noise reduction. STARLUX also signed a long-term TotalCare service agreement for the airline’s eight Airbus A330neo aircraft with Rolls-Royce, building on the existing partnership with the jet engine manufacturer. The airline has ordered 18 Airbus A350 XWBs powered by Trent XWB engines, which are also covered by the TotalCare long-term service agreement.

STARLUX’s A330neo features a spacious layout with 297 seats, including 28 in business class and 269 in economy class. The A330neo is equipped with an Airbus Airspace cabin, designedย to customize and maximize all available space and provide addedย comfort and ambience. The overhead storage of the STARLUX A330neo is 66% larger, ensuring that passengers have enough space to stow their luggage. The state-of-the-art LED lighting can switch between different scenarios to set the right ambience throughout all phases of a flight and even reduce jetlag.

The cabin interior is once again designed by BMW Designworks to evoke the ambience of “Home in the Air“.ย The “Pure Tea” color theme featuring natural colors, the warm fabric and leather, along with the ceiling panel with Polaris glowing gently overhead combine to create a most relaxing atmosphere.

Business class passengers will now be able to enjoy more privacy. The 1-2-1 seating layout allows every passenger to have his or her own private entrance into their seat. Luxuriously covered with a cashmere silver back shell and enlarged privacy dividers, each seat can fold down into a fully flat bed. Each passenger has a side cubby for storing personal belongings like water bottles and headphones, and a mirror is mounted on the cubby door. A reading light with three different brightness levels and wireless charger are available in every seat to provide the utmost in convenience and comfort during the flight.

STARLUX does not compromise the comfort of economy-class passengers either. The luxurious RECARO seats in the economy cabin offer ultra-thin seatbacks to increase leg room and are equipped with high-quality leather headrests. The headrest can be adjusted six ways to provide head and neck support for various postures. Passengers can slide their headrest up or down six inches while unfolding the side cushions to an angle that best suits them. Each seat has been installed a tablet holder and a cup holder to ensure that passengers do not have to worry about spilling their drinks or have to tuck cups sloppily in the seat pockets.

The A330neo inflight entertainment system has also been greatly upgraded. In business class, every seat is equipped with a 17.3-inchย 4Kย screen, while passengers in economy class can also enjoyย 4Kย resolution with 13.3-inch screen. Bluetooth audio connectivity is now available for passengers to use their own headphones onboard. 3D interactive “Kid’s map” is added for the little passengers flying STARLUX to explore the world with their fingertips.

The STARLUX fleet is now entering the beginning of a full upgrade. Not only has the first A330neo arrived, but the delivery of eighteen A350 XWBs will also start in the third quarter this year. Through strategic deployment of its A321neos, A330neos and A350 XWBs to routes of varying distances, STARLUX will be able to extend its network with utmost efficiency and to provide convenient and luxurious service fromย Taiwanย to more and more destinations.

Hot meals and more: What can you expect on your next Delta flight?

Delta Air Lines has made this announcement:

As Delta begins to welcome record numbers of customers back on board, the airline has already started to transform travel in order to meet evolving customer expectations. Below, Delta’s E.V.P. and Chief Customer Experience Officer Allison Ausband outlines what’s on the horizon in the months ahead.

Throughout an extraordinary and unpredictable two years, Delta has continued to innovate to meet evolving customer expectations. The upcoming holiday weekend marks the official start of the spring travel season, and weโ€™re thrilled to be welcoming record numbers of customers back on board. Whether you never stopped traveling or youโ€™re looking forward to snacking on Deltaโ€™s signature Biscoff cookies during your first flight back, you probably have questions about what you can expect on your next Delta trip.

We recently sat down with Allison Ausband, Deltaโ€™s E.V.P. and Chief Customer Experience Officer, to explain some of the ways Delta has already transformed travel and outline whatโ€™s on the horizon in the months ahead.

WHATโ€™S AVAILABLE TO EAT AND DRINK ON BOARD THESE DAYS?

Allison:ย Weโ€™re continuing to bring back elements of the onboard experience we know our customers have missed. Starting in March, First Class customers on select flights 900 miles or greater will again enjoy hot meals featuring local ingredients and favorite items. Menu highlights include ginger beer-braised osso bucco, wild mushroom ravioli, chicken cacciatore and French bread pizza. Additionally, customers can enjoy barbecue beef short ribs from Atlanta favoriteย Fox Bros. Bar-B-Qย on select flights departing Atlanta. Our desserts will also delight, with sweets like ricotta cheesecake, frozen Greek yogurt with cherry syrup, and a strawberry, rhubarb and pretzel tart (the tart is my favorite!).

Because we know our customers love having more choices, weโ€™re also bringing back four snack options to every flight starting this month. Youโ€™ll be able to choose among Biscoff cookies, almonds, Rold Gold pretzels and USDA-certified organic bars fromย Kateโ€™s Real Food; weโ€™re currently offering their dark chocolate cherry and almond bar.

This is the latest in a series of intentional steps weโ€™ve been taking since April 2021 to reintroduce the service Delta is known for. We started with introducingย new beverages and snacks,ย meals from top U.S. restaurantsย in Delta One on premium coast-to-coast routes, andย fresh meals to First Class customersย across our domestic system.

Weโ€™ve also introduced unique beverages on board from diverse and sustainable suppliers, including vodka fromย Du Nord Social Spirits, Americaโ€™s first Black-owned distillery, and new,ย sustainable canned wineย from the award-winning winemaker at Imagery Winery.

Our specially curated menus and beverage options will wow customers as we continue to create an onboard dining experience that builds on our premium service and culture of innovation.

WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE BOARDING PROCESS?

A:ย Weโ€™re always aiming to make your journey through the airport as easy as possible. Last fall, we brought back our boarding zones for a quicker and easier boarding process, and weโ€™ve started bringing back our Sky Priority boarding lanes, which we know our SkyMiles Members have missed. Customers are invited to board according to boarding zones that correspond to their Medallion Status, Sky Priority, Delta SkyMiles American Express Card or cabin. Weโ€™ve also reinstated our popular virtual queuing for users of the Fly Delta app to help make this process even more seamless.

Thanks to Deltaโ€™s partnership with TSA, qualifying customers in Atlanta and Detroit can opt in to make use of new facial recognition technology that provides the ability to check bags, pass through security and board their flight completely hands-free through use of theirย digital identityย (SkyMiles Member number, passport number and Known Traveler Number).

IS THERE RELIABLE WI-FI ON BOARD SO I CAN WATCH A MOVIE OR CATCH UP ON EMAILS?

A:ย We know how important fast-streaming and reliable Wi-Fi is for our customers. More than half of our domestic mainline customers now have access to fast-streaming connectivity for only $5 per flight โ€“ no matter the duration โ€“ through our newย partnership with Viasat. In fact, Deltaโ€™s onboard Wi-Fi is now up to two times faster than it was in 2020, a big step forward and just one way we are keeping you connected on board. And if youโ€™d rather get comfortable with a new box office hit, favorite show, orย meditative contentย through our seatback screens, there is something for everyone to discover through Delta Studio โ€“ we now have over 350 movies for customers to choose from.

I HAVENโ€™T BEEN TRAVELING AT MY USUAL PACE โ€“ WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO MY MEDALLION STATUS?

A:ย Weโ€™ve got you covered. Weย proactively extended Medallion Statusย to Jan. 31, 2023, and rolled over all Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) for the second year in a row. We also extended Status earn on Award Travel with Delta for an extra year, which will give our loyal Members an even bigger head start to earn 2023 Medallion Status.

WHEN DO MY ECREDITS EXPIRE?

A:ย We know that flexibility continues to be important right now. Thatโ€™s why Delta is giving customers another unmatched, industry-leading eCredit extension through 2023.ย Customers will be able to rebook their ticket by Dec. 31, 2023, for travel throughout 2024.

WHAT CAN CUSTOMERS EXPECT IN THE MONTHS AHEAD?

A:ย Additional improvements to the overall customer experience will roll out in the months to come including introducingย new, state-of-the-art aircraftย into the Delta fleet family, opening the two largest Delta Sky Clubs in our network in LAX and LGA as we open ultramodern terminals at those airports, as well as ushering in a new era of onboard entertainment, just to name a few. Youโ€™ll also see moreย sustainable commitments come to lifeย this month, starting with our new Delta One amenity kits, made by Mexican artisans, created especially for Delta. You can rest assured that Delta is hard at work to ensure we deliver an elevated experience thatโ€™s better for you, your journey and our world โ€“ withย operational reliability that is unmatched in the industry. Safe travels, and let us know what you think after your next trip back.

British Airways is launching a new, daytime flight from Newark Liberty International Airport to London Heathrow โ€“ its third daily flight from Newark to London, to support the return of business travel in 2022.

The additional flight, which launches on 6 June, will depart at 7.55am from Newark – a convenient option for travelers wishing to spend an extra night in the New York area before departing on business or leisure, or for those travelers who wish to arrive in the evening in London to spend the night at home or their hotel. The flight will depart Heathrow at 7.10pm, also allowing travelers to spend the entire day in London before flying to Newark.

The airline is also resuming its โ€˜daylightโ€™ service from JFK in March, which proves to be a convenient option particularly valued by its business travelers, and customers who prefer to travel during the day.

The additional Newark flight offers added convenience for customers living in Manhattan, Staten Island and New Jersey.

With this new frequency, British Airways along with its joint business partner American Airlines will offer the most extensive network from the New York area to London with 15 daily departures this summer, including 11 daily flights from JFK to Heathrow and 1 daily flight from JFK to Gatwick.ย  From April 2022, all flights to JFK and EWR from Heathrow on BA and AA will depart out of BAโ€™s Terminal 5, and by next year, all British Airways flights in JFK will depart from AAโ€™s home in Terminal 8.

The flight will operate daily on a Boeing 777-200 with 48 Club World seats, 40 World Traveller Plus seats, and 184 World Traveller seats.

Atlas Air and Cainiao expand partnership with the addition of a new Boeing 747-8 freighter linking China and the Americas

Atlas Air, Inc., a subsidiary of Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc. and Cainiao Network, the logistics arm of Alibaba Group, today announced the expansion of their strategic partnership by adding a new Boeing 747-8 Freighter under a long-term agreement to increase capacity on routes between China and the Americas.

This expansion builds upon Atlas Airโ€™s partnership with Cainiao, and the new aircraft will enter service for Cainiao in the second quarter of 2022, linking China with the United States, Brazil and Chile.

This 747-8F aircraft is among the last 747s ever to be produced by Boeing. As previously announced, Atlas ordered the last four 747 production aircraft to capitalize on strong demand and deliver value for its customers, while also bolstering its commitment to environmental stewardship through the reduction of aircraft emissions, resource consumption and noise.ย  The iconic Boeing 747 program has been in operation for over 50 years and will continue to play a critical role in keeping global supply chains moving for decades to come.

The Boeing 747-8 Freighter is the most capable, technologically advanced and environmentally friendly widebody freighter. The 747-8F provides 20% higher payload capacity and 16% lower fuel consumption than the very capable 747-400F.

In November 2021, Cainiao expanded its partnership with Atlas Air to include daily charter flights operated between China and Latin America in response to the growth of cross-border trade between China and Latin America.

Atlas Air enters into long-term agreement with Kuehne+Nagel for two Boeing 747-8F freighters

Atlas Air, Inc., a subsidiary of Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc., today announced it has entered into a long-term, dedicated charter agreement to operate two of its new incoming Boeing 747-8 freighters on a global basis for Kuehne+Nagel, one of the worldโ€™s largest freight forwarders.

Atlas Air will commence operation of these aircraft for Kuehne+Nagel following their delivery from Boeing, with one expected in the third quarter and the second in the fourth quarter of 2022. Atlas Air operates one of the worldโ€™s largest fleets of 747-8Fs, the most capable freighter aircraft in the world. These two aircraft placed with Kuehne+Nagel are the last 747s Boeing will produce.

As previously announced, Atlas ordered the last four 747 production aircraft to capitalize on strong demand and deliver value for its customers, while also bolstering its commitment to environmental stewardship through the reduction of aircraft emissions, resource consumption and noise.ย  This legendary aircraft has been in production for over 50 years and will continue to serve the needs of our global supply chains for decades into the future.

โ€œWe are delighted to expand our partnership with Kuehne+Nagel by providing dedicated capacity for their growing global airfreight network,โ€ said Atlas Air Worldwide President and Chief Executive Officer John W. Dietrich. โ€œThe Boeing 747-8F serves an incredibly important role in global airfreight, with advanced technology that allows for lower fuel consumption, higher capacity and unique nose-loading capability. We look forward to taking delivery of these two 747s and operating them for Kuehne+Nagel to support their network for years to come.โ€

Yngve Ruud, Member of the Management Board of Kuehne+Nagel, responsible for Air Logistics, commented: โ€œAs a market leader in airfreight, Kuehne+Nagel further expands its dedicated charter network to support customers with solutions for long-term planning and high-quality service. We are proud to partner with Atlas Air and include these two new Boeing 747-8Fs in our already extensive global capacity offering.โ€

The 747-8F provides 20% higher payload capacity and 16% lower fuel consumption than the very capable 747-400F.

About Kuehne+Nagel

With more than 76,000 employees at 1,400 locations in over 100 countries, the Kuehne+Nagel Group is one of the worldโ€™s leading logistics companies. Its strong market position lies in Sea Logistics, Air Logistics, Road Logistics and Contract Logistics, with a clear focus on integrated logistics solutions.

Atlas Air Worldwide reports record 2021 results

Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Inc. has announced record 2021 results, including revenue that rose to $4.0 billion, and net income that increased to $493.3 million, or $16.16 per diluted share, compared with $3.2 billion in revenue, and net income of $360.3 million, or $13.50 per diluted share, in 2020.

On an adjusted basis, EBITDA increased to a record $1.1 billion in 2021 compared with $844.2 million in 2020. For the twelve months ended December 31, 2021, adjusted net income rose to a record $551.0 million, or $18.51 per diluted share, compared with $379.0 million, or $13.67 per diluted share, in 2020.

โ€œ2021 was another outstanding year with excellent financial and operating performance. Our greatest strength is our people and Iโ€™d like to thank everyone at Atlas for working together to deliver these very strong results. We are also very pleased to have achieved a long-term labor agreement with our pilots that recognizes their significant contributions to Atlas. With the strength, flexibility and resiliency of our global business model, our experienced and dedicated team delivered high-quality service to our customers in an operating environment with persistent pandemic-related obstacles,โ€ said Atlas Air Worldwide President and Chief Executive Officer John W. Dietrich.

โ€œWe are leveraging our world-class fleet and global operating capabilities to increase aircraft utilization and capitalize on strong demand for our services and dedicated freighters, as well as on higher airfreight yields.โ€

He continued: โ€œWe have now placed our new 747-8Fs under long-term agreements, enhanced numerous long-term contracts with strategic customers and further diversified our customer base. In 2021, we deepened relationships with valued customers, including Cainiao, CEVA Logistics, DB Schenker, DHL, DSV, FedEx, Flexport, Geodis, HP Inc., Icelandair, JAS, Kuehne+Nagel, SF Group and UPS.

โ€œWe take a disciplined and balanced approach to capital allocation. We have strengthened our balance sheet, made significant investments in our fleet, including new 747-8 and 777 freighter aircraft, and are returning capital to our shareholders. Consistent with our balanced capital allocation approach, our Board has authorized a new $200 million share repurchase program, and we are starting by implementing $100 million in accelerated repurchases.

โ€œAtlas is very well positioned for the future. We have a dedicated and talented team of employees, a strong balance sheet, a formidable fleet of aircraft, an unparalleled network of customers and unrivaled global operating capabilities. We also have a strong position and look forward to growing our Titan dry leasing business. And our strategic focus on express, e-Commerce and fast-growing markets will continue to drive our business forward.โ€

Mr. Dietrich added: โ€œWe expect strong performance in the first quarter of 2022, with adjusted EBITDA and adjusted net income similar to the first quarter of 2021. We also anticipate revenue of about $1.0 billion from flying approximately 85,000 block hours.

โ€œThis outlook reflects higher yields, including the contribution from numerous new or enhanced long-term customer contracts, as well as higher pilot costs from our new joint collective bargaining agreement that went into effect in September 2021.

โ€œDue to the uncertainty related to the pandemic, ongoing supply chain disruptions and other factors, we are not providing additional guidance at this time.โ€

Full-Year Results

Volumes in 2021 grew to 364,061 block hours compared with 344,821 in 2020, with revenue increasing to $4.0 billion in 2021 from $3.2 billion in 2020.

For the twelve months ended December 31, 2021, our reported net income rose to $493.3 million, or $16.16 per diluted share, compared with $360.3 million, or $13.50 per diluted share, in 2020.

On an adjusted basis, EBITDA grew to $1.1 billion in 2021 compared with $844.2 million in 2020. For the twelve months ended December 31, 2021, adjusted net income increased to $551.0 million, or $18.51 per diluted share, compared with $379.0 million, or $13.67 per diluted share, in 2020.

Reported results in 2021 included an effective income tax rate of 23.8%. On an adjusted basis, our results reflected an effective income tax rate of 22.0%.

Fourth-Quarter Results

Volumes in the fourth quarter of 2021 totaled 91,985 block hours compared with 96,079 in the fourth quarter of 2020, with revenue rising to $1.2 billion compared with $932.5 million in the prior-year quarter.

For the three months ended December 31, 2021, our reported net income totaled $176.7 million, or $5.55 per diluted share, compared with net income of $184.0 million, or $6.15 per diluted share, in the fourth quarter of 2020.

On an adjusted basis, EBITDA was $361.8 million in the fourth quarter this year compared with $279.7 million in the fourth quarter of 2020. Adjusted net income in the fourth quarter of 2021 totaled $211.6 million, or $7.05 per diluted share, compared with $143.2 million, or $4.83 per diluted share, in the prior-year period.

Reported earnings in the fourth quarter of 2021 also included an effective income tax rate of 24.3%. On an adjusted basis, our results reflected an effective income tax rate of 21.7%.

Higher Airline Operations revenue primarily reflected an increase in the average rate per block hour. The higher average rate per block hour was primarily due to an increased proportion of higher-yielding flying, including the impact of new and extended long-term contracts, the ongoing reduction of available cargo capacity in the market, the continued disruption of global supply chains, as well as higher fuel costs. Block-hour volumes during the period reflected a reduction in less profitable smaller gauge CMI service flying, partially offset by our ability to increase the utilization of our current fleet to meet strong customer demand. Block-hour volumes benefited from the operation of a 747-400 freighter we reactivated during the fourth quarter of 2020.

Higher Airline Operations segment contribution in the fourth quarter of 2021 was primarily driven by the positive factors benefiting segment revenue mentioned above as well as lower heavy maintenance expense. These improvements were partially offset by higher pilot costs related to our new joint collective bargaining agreement (JCBA).

In Dry Leasing, segment revenue and contribution in the fourth quarter of 2021 were relatively unchanged compared with the prior-year period.

Unallocated income and expenses, net, increased during the quarter, primarily due to $67.2 million in CARES Act grant income in 2020 and a $14.1 million increase related to adjustments to paid time-off benefits in our new JCBA in 2021 (both of which were excluded from our adjusted results), as well as a $6.6 million reduction in refunds of aircraft rent paid in previous years.

Fleet Management

We have now placed all four of our new and incoming 747-8Fs under long-term agreements. We expect delivery of these aircraft between May and October this year.

In addition, we look forward to the deliveries and placements of the four new 777-200LRFs we recently announced, for which there is very strong demand. We expect one to be delivered late in the fourth quarter of this year and three more throughout 2023.

As previously disclosed, we purchased six of our existing 747-400Fs during 2021 that were formerly on lease to us. We are also purchasing another five of our other 747-400Fs at the end of their leases during the course of this year, which range from February to December.

Acquiring these widebody freighters underscores our confidence in the demand for dedicated international airfreight capacity, particularly in express, e-Commerce and fast-growing global markets. These investments are consistent with our long-term strategic growth plan and will provide customers with modern and environmentally-efficient aircraft, which will drive strong returns for Atlas in the years ahead.

Cash

At December 31, 2021, our cash, including cash equivalents and restricted cash, totaled $921.0 million compared with $856.3 million at December 31, 2020.

The increase resulted from cash provided by operating activities, partially offset by cash used for investing and financing activities.

Net cash used for investing activities during 2021 primarily related to payments for flight equipment and modifications, including all pre-delivery payments for 747-8F aircraft, as well as capital expenditures, spare engines and GEnx performance upgrade kits.

Net cash used for financing activities during the period primarily related to payments on debt obligations, partially offset by proceeds from debt issuance.

Share Repurchases

In February 2022, our Board of Directors approved the establishment of a new share repurchase program authorizing up to $200.0 million of our common stock. Purchases may be made at our discretion in the form of accelerated share repurchase programs, open market repurchase programs, privately negotiated transactions, or a combination of these methods.

As part of the share repurchase program, the company will enter into a $100.0 million accelerated share repurchase program (ASR). Purchases under the ASR are expected to be completed by the end of the second quarter.

Outlook*

We expect strong performance in the first quarter of 2022, with adjusted EBITDA and adjusted net income similar to the first quarter of 2021. We anticipate revenue of about $1.0 billion from flying approximately 85,000 block hours.

This outlook reflects higher yields, including the contribution from numerous new or enhanced long-term customer contracts, as well as higher pilot costs from our new JCBA.

We expect first-quarter results to continue to be impacted by ongoing pandemic-related expenses, including premium pay for employees flying into locations significantly impacted by COVID-19 and other operational costs, including for regulatory compliance and providing a safe working environment for our employees.

For the full year in 2022, we expect aircraft maintenance expense to be similar to 2021, and depreciation and amortization to total about $300 million. In addition, core capital expenditures, which exclude aircraft and engine purchases, are projected to total approximately $135 to $145 million, mainly for parts and components for our fleet.

Due to the uncertainty related to the pandemic, ongoing supply chain disruptions and other factors, we are not providing additional guidance at this time.

Other than with regard to revenue, we provide guidance on an adjusted basis because we are unable to predict with reasonable certainty and without unreasonable effort the effects on future gains and losses on asset sales, special charges and other unanticipated items that could be material to our reported results.*

United Aims to quadruple the size of its fleet of training aircraft

United Aviate Academy today announced that it aims to potentially quadruple the size of its fleet of training aircraft, in response to the surge of applications to the country’s only flight school owned by a major airline. The Academy will add 25 new, state-of-the artย Cirrus TRAC SR20ย training aircraft to its current fleet of 25, with the option to purchase up to 50 more.

United Aviate Academy has already received more than 12,000 applications since announcing the school inย April 2021. The schoolย officially openedย in January and welcomed a historic inaugural class of future pilots, part of the airline’s effort ย to train at least 5,000 new pilots at the school by 2030, with the goal of at least half women or people of color.

United Aviate Academy also recently purchased seven state-of-the-artย FRASCA simulators, including some with 220-degree wraparound displays, with the first of these brand-new flight simulators arriving in April. These high-quality flight simulators feature hardware and software that operates exactly like the aircraft, for maximum effectiveness for students.

United Aviate Academy, whose corporate name is Westwind School of Aeronautics Phoenix, LLC, already has a fleet of 25 late-model Cirrus TRAC SR20 series single-engine aircraft, which feature advanced safety characteristics. This new order will add at least 25 brand-new TRAC SR20 aircraft beginning in May with options and purchase rights for up to 50 more. The SR20 features impressive capabilities that complement its stable flight characteristics. Its integrated Garminยฎ Perspective+ flight deck includes features found on advanced airliners such as two large flight displays, a Flight Management System keypad controller, an Electronic Stability and Protection system as well as integrated engine indication and crew alerting/warning systems.

Its durable all-composite airframe with the signature Cirrus Airframe Parachute Systemยฎ makes the TRAC Series one of the safest and most versatile training airplanes available today. United Aviate Academy is also the launch partner for a significant expansion of CirrusIQโ„ข, which allows for monitoring of flight data, enabling United Aviate Academy students and instructors to do enhanced debriefings after each lesson.

United Aviate Academy is breaking down barriers to introduce new pilots to rewarding careers. Last summer, United unveiledย United Next, which will revolutionize the United flying experience and add more than 500 new aircraft. United plans to hire at least 10,000 new pilots by 2030 to meet this need. United will find those pilots through targeted recruiting, strategic partnerships and scholarship and financial aid solutions.

United Aviate Academy’s year-long training program sets up students for a career that reflects United’s high standard of professionalism and deep commitment to delivering a safe, caring, dependable and efficient travel experience. After completing their training at the academy, students can build flight and leadership experience while working within theย Aviateย pilot development ecosystem at partner universities, professional flight training organizations and United Expressยฎ carriers on their way to becoming United pilots. United currently has about 12,000 pilots, and Captains of United’s Boeing 787s and 777s can earn more thanย $350,000ย per year. In addition, United pilots receive one of the highest 401(k) matches in the nation โ€“ 16% of base pay.

British Airways colleagues will also have access to specialized videos via the airlineโ€™s staff intranet. This training will provide colleagues with an understanding of what an invisible disability is and how to become more confident to approach and support customers wearing a Sunflower lanyard.

Increasing the awareness of non-visible disabilities across the airline and promoting the Sunflower will contribute to enhancing the customer experience for British Airways customers. Those that travel with the airline can be confident that they will receive the support, assistance and understanding they require throughout their journey.

Welcoming the new partnership, Tom Stevens, British Airwaysโ€™ Director of Brand and Customer Experience, said:

Supporting customers with additional needs

Aiming to become the airline of choice for customers with invisible and visible disabilities, British Airways has invested in several initiatives to ensure a seamless experience for customers requiring additional assistance.

In 2018, British Airways launched its โ€˜Beyond Accessibilityโ€™ campaign, the airlineโ€™s largest global accessibility training program. This program empowers customer-facing colleagues to improve support for customers requiring additional assistance. It includes a new library of digital learning providing information about invisible disabilities and practical advice on how to support customers at each stage of their journey*.

In 2019, the airline created a dedicated team of accessibility experts to assist with customer enquiries, and as a result, British Airways saw customer satisfaction levels more than double for travelers with accessibility needs **.

British Airways also became the first and only airline to be awarded the renowned Autism Friendly Award by the National Autistic Society and is the first airline to produce a Visual Guide to Flying to help customers prepare for their flight. The guide, which can be found onย ba.com, is endorsed by the National Autistic Society and explains the sights, sounds, smells and experiences customers may encounter during their journey***.

The same year, British Airways signed up to the โ€˜Valuable 500โ€™ pledge to make accessibility a global business priority.
