Lufthansa Cargo continues to grow its intra-European route network with additional A321 freighters

Lufthansa Cargo has made this announcement:

  • ยท Second A321 freighter enters service in October 2022
  • ยท Expansion of the European network with inclusion of Birmingham, London and Madrid
  • ยท Daily weekday service to the UK and Ireland will deliver attractive Same-Day and eCommerce solutions
  • ยท Two additional A321 freighters to complement medium-haul services in the first half of 2023

From October 2022, Lufthansa Cargo will offer its customers additional capacities in its medium-haul network on specially converted Airbus A321 freighters. The first cargo flight of its kind took off from Frankfurt to Dublin in March 2022. Due to the positive response from the market and the continuing high demand from the eCommerce and Same-Day segments, a second aircraft of this type will enter scheduled service from October.

Luthansa Cargo A321F

The second A321F with registration D-AEUA is currently undergoing conversion in Singapore. The twin-engine, technically advanced narrow-body aircraft is powerful and fuel-efficient at the same time. It is identical in design to the first A321 freighter (D-AEUC, ‘Hello Europe’): A total of 28 tons of payload is available on 14 pallets and container positions on the main deck and ten on the lower deck. Lufthansa Cargo can continue enlarging its footprint by offering the known quality service and product in the fast growing eCommerce segment.

Similar to the first A321F, the second aircraft will also be based at the Frankfurt hub and operated by Lufthansa CityLine under wet lease agreement. Both A321Fs will operate under Lufthansa Cargo flight numbers. As a Group company, Lufthansa CityLine has worked intensively in recent months on the technical and operational preparation of the first two converted aircraft of this type in Germany. The new destinations in the intra-European network include Birmingham (BHX), London (LHR) and Madrid (MAD). The existing destinations Istanbul (IST), Tel Aviv (TLV), Malta (MLA), Tunis (TUN), Dublin (DUB), Manchester (MAN) and Cairo (CAI) will continue to be served, while Istanbul and Tel Aviv will see additional frequencies.

In light of the dynamic market development and continuing high demand for Same-Day and eCommerce solutions, Lufthansa Cargo continues to focus on growth for its intra-European network. Two additional A321 freighters are expected in the first half of 2023. This means that Lufthansa Cargo will double its A321F capacities in the future and will strive to deploy these aircraft to suit the respective customer needs.

Finnair to launch daily services from Nordic capitals to Doha in strategic partnership with Qatar Airways

Finnair and oneworld partner Qatar Airways have concluded an agreement to establish a long-term strategic cooperation between Helsinki, Stockholm and Copenhagen and Doha. Finnair and Qatar Airways are exploring opening services also between another European destination and Doha.

These services will be supported by a comprehensive codeshare agreement with shared passenger and cargo capacity between both airlines.

Customers from the three Nordic cities will benefit from seamless connections via Doha to Qatar Airwaysโ€™ extensive network of around 100 destinations across Australasia, Asia, the Middle East and Africa. The collaboration will also open new destinations and connection opportunities across Finnairโ€™s Nordic network for Qatar Airwaysโ€™ customers.

The services are planned to start between November and December 2022. They will be operated with Finnairโ€™s Airbus A330 aircraft featuring Finnairโ€™s new long-haul cabins, including industry-leading Air Lounge business class seats, a brand-new premium economy travel class and refreshed economy class.

The flights to Doha are to be sold and marketed by both Finnair and Qatar Airways as per the schedule below:

  • 7 weekly flights to and from Helsinki
  • 7 weekly flights to and from Stockholm
  • 7 weekly flights to and from Copenhagen

As a result of these new feeder routes to Doha, Finnair will not operate eight long-haul routes this winter from Stockholm (Arlanda) and from Helsinki.

GlobalX introduces a new Bad Bunny logojet for Adidas

GlobalX (Global Crossing Airlines) has introduced a “Bad Bunny – Adidas” sneaker promotional livery on its Airbus A320 N281GX.

Shoe-maker Adidasย announced it was giving its fans a chance to win a trip to Puerto Rico this summer.

According to Adidas, the customย baby blue-colored plane pictured (above) is inspired by Bad Bunnyโ€™s art and pays homage to the summer.

The trip kicks off with a night inย Puerto Rico and then travel to New York for aย special Bad Bunny concert in the Bronx on August 27.

Bad Bunny is a multi-platinum recording artist, multiple Latin GRAMMYยฎ and GRAMMYยฎ winner, who consistently manages to break international barriers and dismantle cultural norms, becoming a global icon of culture and entertainment. In 2021, he was named one of Billboardโ€™s 10 most popular superstars in the world and earned the title of the #1 Latin artist of the year for a third consecutive year. In addition, after amassing an impressive more than 9.1 billion streams, he became the only Latin artist who, for two consecutive years, has been proclaimed the most listened to artist globally on Spotify โ€“ all of this without releasing a new album.

In 2022, his tour “El รšltimo Tour del Mundo” became the most globally successful tour of current times, selling out its 35 functions and breaking sales and attendance records. On the heels of his global success, he released a new album, “Un Verano Sin Ti,” which became the second all-Spanish album to reach number 1 on the Billboard 200 Chart. The first album to accomplish this was Bad Bunny’s “El รšltimo Tour del Mundo.” The album earned 356.66 million on-demand official streams in its premiere week, registering the largest streaming week ever for a Latin music album; it also set a record by posting its 24 songs on Billboard’s “Hot Latin Songs.” Currently, the megastar just kicked off his first stadium tour across the U.S. and Latin America, setting the record for the highest-grossing concert in each of the venues he has performed so far and the highest-grossing concert by a Latin act.

United is considering a new widebody aircraft order, considers the Airbus A350 and additional Boeing 787 Dreamliners

United Airlines is reportedly considering another new aircraft order, this time to replace its aging Boeing 767-300ER widebody fleet and the Boeing 777-200 widebody fleet.

Unitedโ€™s oldest widebodies are the 38 Boeing 767-300ERs with an average age of almost 26 years, and its 19 777-200s with almost 25 years average age.

Unitedโ€™s 16 Boeing 767-400ERs and 55 Boeing 777-200ERs are also on average more than 20 years old.

United Airlines fleet plans:

Previously the airline annouced orders for 200 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft and 70 Airbus A321neo aircraft for its narrowbody fleet renewal.

When combined with the current orders, United expects to add more than 500 new narrow-body aircraft: 40 in 2022, 138 in 2023 and as many as 350 in 2024 and beyond.

That means in 2023 alone, the United narrowbody fleet could add about one new narrowbody aircraft every three days.

Iberia Express cancels flights ahead of a cabin crew strike

Iberia Express issued this warning (translated from Spanish) about an intended strike by the cabin crew union, USO::

In order to protect our customers in a period of peak influx, we have canceled 12 round trip flights between August 28, 29 and 30.

o Canary Islands: 1 flight -i/v- (days 28 and 29)
o Balearic Islands: 1 daily flight -i/v- (days 28, 29, 30)
o Seville: 1 daily flight -i/v- (days 28, 29, 30)
o Santiago: 1 daily flight -i/v- (days 28, 29, 30)
o Malaga: 1 flight -i/v- (day 29)

These cancellations are intended to minimize, above all, the impact on our customers.

All customers affected by these cancellations, around 3,000 passengers, have been duly notified and a reaccommodation process has been launched on other flights of Iberia Express, Iberia and other airlines, to which we add alternatives such as bonuses and refunds:

o 66% of affected passengers have already been relocated to other flights or alternative means of transport
o The remaining 34% is pending to choose the alternative that suits them best (transport alternative, reimbursement, change of date or vouchers)

The reason for this measure is none other than to protect our clients and ensure their interests in the return operation, on specially marked dates.

The company has not yet made any decision on the affected flights as of the 31st. Once the situation is evaluated in the coming days, it will be duly informed.

We make a new appeal to the responsibility of the union ‘USO’ so that it calls off the strikes and bets on dialogue and not on social confrontation.

We regret the inconvenience this situation is causing our customers and apologize for it.
