Alaska Airlines unveils a new Alaska logojet

Alaska Airlines (Seattle/Tacoma) is expected to roll out its latest Boeing 737-400 “We’re All Pulling Together” logojet today (April 9) at SEA. The airplane is dedicated to the State of Alaska and its 50th Anniversary of Statehood. The aircraft is due to ferry to Sitka, AS to be officially unveiled in a ceremony. Sitka is the home of the “Paint the Plane” contest design winner, Hannah Hamberg.

In other news, AS will start Bellingham-Las Vegas service (three times weekly) with Boeing 737-700s starting on June 25.

Alaska Airlines again closes ANC operations

Alaska Airlines’ (Seattle/Tacoma) Anchorage operation is being destroyed by Mount Redoubt. The dominant carrier at ANC was forced again to shut down operations Saturday evening after Mount Redoubt erupted again around 3:40 p.m. Alaska time. Ted Stevens International Airport ceased all operations around 6 p.m. (1800) local time. AS cancelled 37 flights in and out of ANC on Saturday. Since the volcanic eruptions began on March 22, AS has cancelled more than 185 flights affecting an estimated 10,000 passengers. ANC is expected to reopen today.

Alaska to suspend service to Petersburg, AK

Alaska Airlines (Seattle/Tacoma) will suspend service to Petersburg, AK from March 23 through April 21 due to runway construction by the State of Alaska DOT.

Czech Airlines leases Nayzak two 737-400s

Czech Airlines-CSA (Prague) has finalized a lease of two 162-passenger Boeing 737-400s to Nayzak Air Transport (Tripoli). The lease will run through May 2010. Previously Nayzak signed a lease for three 737-400s from Centralwings. The private airline was formed in 2005 and commenced operations on June 6, 2006.

Alaska and ALPA reach tentative agreement

Alaska Airlines (Seattle/Tacoma) and the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) have reached a tentative new four-year contract. The new agreement is subject to the ratification of AS’ 1,500 pilots.

Alaska Airlines to sponsor the Iditarod Dog Race

Alaska Airlines (Seattle/Tacoma) this year becomes the official airline sponsor of the Iditarod dog race between the Anchorage area and Nome. Airline employees will also volunteer to support the race teams both on the ground and in the air. Alaska Airlines is expected to shortly unveil a new Boeing 737-400 logojet in recognition of the 50th Anniversary of statehood for the State of Alaska.
