Zambezi Airlines stops flying for Air Zimbabwe

Zambezi Airlines (Lusaka) yesterday (May 18) stopped flying for Air Zimbabwe (Harare) leaving that airline grounded according to this article by the Defence Web.

Previously the government of Zimbabwe told the flag carrier to stop flying their older Boeing 737-200s. Air Zimbabwe hired Zambezi to fly the regional routes for Air Zimbabwe.

Air Zimbabwe is unable to pay its IATA fees

Air Zimbabwe (Harare) has defaulted and is unable to pay its overdue fees to IATA. The airline is scrambling to obtain the $280,000 from the government. The airline has suspended its route to London (Gatwick) but still operates locally and to Johannesburg.

Air Zimbabwe’s pilots end their month-long strike

Air Zimbabwe (Harare) reported while negotiations continue with the striking pilots to restore normal operations, the pilots have partially returned in order to resume operations on the Harare-Johannesburg-Harare route according to this article by Capital Business.

The pilots went on strike in March demanding payment for their unpaid wages.

Air Zimbabwe is struggling with its $100-million debt that has forced it to cut its route network from 25 routes to only seven.
