Mango has second profitable year in a row

Mango (subsidiary of South African Airways) (Johannesburg) reported a fiscal year profit of $2.6 million, its second profitable year in a row. The low-fare airline also reported a high 91 percent load factor.

Did the smaller width of the Mangalore runway contribute to the Air India Express accident?

Air India Express (Mumbai) flight IX 812 on May 22, 2010 operated with Boeing 737-8HG VT-AXV (msn 36333) from Dubai to Manglalore in southern India, overran the 8,033 feet (2,448 m) runway number 06/24 while landing. The airliner skidded down the hill at the end of the runway and was destroyed by fire.

This WSJ article raises the question of whether the width of this runway contributed to the aircraft exiting the runway. ICAO Annex 14 requires runways to be 300 meters (100 feet) wide. This runway was only 200 meters wide.

Avient takes delivery of a second MD-11F

Avient Aviation (Harare and Liege) has taken delivery of its second McDonnell Douglas MD-11F freighter. Tragically the company lost the first (Z-BAV, msn 48408) on November 28, 2009 on takeoff at Shanghai.

The first ex-Lufthansa CityLine CRJ200 is painted for UTair

UTair Aviation (Khanty Mansiysk) is acquiring a fleet of second-hand Bombardier CRJ200s (CL-600-2B19s) from Lufthansa CityLine. The first has been painted.

RwandAir adds two CRJ200s, negotiates for two Boeing 737-800s

RwandAir (Kigali) as previously reported, is acquiring two CRJ200s from Lufthansa. The flag carrier is also negotiating for two Boeing 737-800s for delivery in 2011.
