airBaltic announces flights between Riga and Tenerife

airBaltic has announced that starting on September 2, 2021, it plans to launch new scheduled flights between Riga and Tenerife in Spain. airBaltic has planned to operate flights between Riga and Tenerife three times a week with the Airbus A220-300 aircraft.

This summer season airBaltic will also offer new safe connections between Riga and Heraklion (Greece), Santorini (Greece), Naples (Italy) and Edinburgh (United Kingdom).

On the financial side, the airline issued this report for 2020:

Due to the historical negative impact caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, air Baltic group closed 2020 with a revenue of EUR 143 million, which was 72% less than the year before. The group’s net result was negative EUR 265 million. Despite the severe travel restrictions, airBaltic carried 1.34 million passengers

Martin Gauss, Chief Executive Officer of airBaltic: “We saw a dramatic change last year, but airBaltic’s core vision for the future remains the same – to be the number one carrier in the Baltics, providing the best connectivity to and from the region. Last year, in the wake of the crisis, we significantly reduced our cost and adjusted the business plan Destination 2025 CLEAN.

We took a decision to permanently phase out Bombardier Q400 and Boeing 737 aircraft and became a single aircraft type operator of the Airbus A220-300 two year ahead of the original plan.”

“We look forward to an increase in travel demand that is now slightly showing some positive signals. We have developed several scenarios for the gradual market recovery. Our base scenario reduction is currently in line with the industry wide projections, and we are flexible to make further adjustments whenever necessary. To support our future return to profit, we will accept additional seven Airbus A220-300 aircraft in 2021,” Martin Gauss added.

Last year the airline connected Riga, Tallinn and Vilnius on a total of 76 routes, providing much-needed essential connectivity and cargo shipments for the region.

airBaltic to add new routes

airBaltic is launching new routes and restoring services:

The airline has announced plans to three weekly flights between Tallinn and Munich starting on May 1.

The carrier will also launch twice-weekly service between Riga and Heraklion commencing on May 15.

Also from Riga, airBaltic will add weekly service to Santorini in Greece beginning on June 5.

Finally the carrier will add the Riga – Naples route on June 4 with two flights a week.

Swiss carries more passengers in the first 9 months, puts its Airbus A220s back into service

Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS)¹ transported a total of 14,293,356 passengers in the first nine months of this year, a 4.4% increase on the same period in 2018. The passengers were carried on 114,968 flights, 5.4% more than were operated in the prior-year period.

Total passenger capacity for January to September was up 1.9% on the prior-year period in available seat-kilometre (ASK) terms. Total traffic volume, measured in revenue passenger-kilometres (RPK), rose 2.2%. Systemwide seat load factor for the period improved accordingly to 84.2%, an increase of 0.2 percentage points.

In the month of September SWISS carried 1,724,647 passengers, a 6.4% improvement on the same month last year. The 13,404 flights operated were a 6.2% increase on the prior-year period. Total ASK capacity was raised 2.4%, while total RPK traffic volume was up 2.1%. Systemwide September seat load factor declined accordingly to 86.2%, a reduction of 0.3 percentage points.

In other news, Swiss is gradually putting its Airbus A220 fleet back into service after grounding them on Tuesday after a “serious” engine issue on HB-JCM that forced a London-Geneva flight to make an emergency landing in Paris.

The short-term grounding allowed the carrier to perform safety inspections on the A220 Pratt & Whitney engines. Full A220 operations are expected tomorrow.

airBaltic announces new flights to Manchester, Yerevan and two Norwegian cities

airBaltic has announced that as of summer season 2020 it will launch new flights from Riga to Manchester (United Kingdom), Yerevan (Armenia) as well as Bergen and Trondheim (both in Norway).

In addition, on May 1, 2020 airBaltic will launch flights from Tallinn to Nice. It will be the 14^th destination offered from the Estonian capital.

Flights from Riga to Manchester will commence on March 29, 2020 and will be performed four times per week. Flights to Bergen and Trondheim will be launched on March 31 and April 1 respectively, while flights to Yerevan will begin on May 3, 2020.

The airBaltic fleet consists of 40 aircraft – 20 Airbus A220-300s, 8 Boeing 737s and 12 Bombardier Q400Next Gen aircraft.

airBaltic publishes its full winter schedule with new routes

airBaltic has fully published its upcoming winter season schedule which will begin on October 27, 2019.

For the first time during this winter season airBaltic offers flights from Riga to Athens, Dublin, Keflavik (Reykjavik) and Stuttgart.

During the upcoming winter season, airBaltic will also offer seasonal flights to skiing resorts of Salzburg, Verona and Poprad Tatry as well as four weekly flights to Abu Dhabi, which this year will already be resumed by the beginning of October. airBaltic will also continue to offer such sunny leisure destinations as Malaga, Barcelona and Lisbon among others.

Flights to Dublin and Stuttgart will be served for the entire winter season. Flights to Reykjavik will be operated until January 31, 2020 and restart on March 3, 2020, but the flights from Riga to Athens will continue until December 1, 2019 and restart on March 4, 2020.

From Tallinn, airBaltic will launch a new season route to Salzburg. In addition, it will be the first winter season for flights to Malaga, Brussels and Copenhagen.

Swiss to offer new service to Marsa Alam from Geneva

Swiss International Air Lines has made this announcement:

Swiss International Air Lines will be expanding its range of services from Geneva in the Winter 2019/2020 timetable period by adding a new route to Marsa Alam in Egypt.

The new weekly service will be provided on Wednesdays October 16 and 23 and then every Thursday from October 31 to March 26, 2020. The flights will be operated with Airbus A220-300 aircraft.

Located on the Red Sea coast, Marsa Alam is a beach vacation destination that is particularly popular among divers. The new route further expands Swiss’ services to Egypt, which already include regular Geneva-Hurghada flights. Swiss will be the only airline serving Marsa Alam from Geneva.

Geneva-Munich and Geneva-Frankfurt services to be retained in winter schedules

Swiss will continue to operate its daily services from Geneva to Munich and Frankfurt in the coming winter timetable period. Munich will receive five Swiss flights from Geneva a day, while Frankfurt will receive a total of eight daily services, four operated by Swiss and four by Lufthansa.

airBaltic reports a net profit of 5.4 million euros in 2018

airBaltic continued its growth in 2018 and achieved strong financial results. According to the financial results for 2018, for the first time in the company’s history airBaltic has achieved EUR 400 million revenue, while the net income has grown by more than 40% compared to 2017, reaching EUR 5.4 million.

airBaltic receives its 15th Airbus A220-300

airBaltic on March 28, 2019 in Riga welcomed its 15^th Airbus A220-300 jet of 2019, registered as YL-AAO. This was the first Airbus A220-300 received this year and seven more new aircraft will join the airline’s fleet by the end of the year.

airBaltic and Mouzenidis Travel to launch charter flights to Corfu

airBaltic in cooperation with the international tour operator Mouzenidis Travel has announced that as of June 1, 2019 it will perform weekly charter flights to the Greek island of Corfu.

The nonstop flights from Riga to Corfu will take place between June and early October.

Passengers will board an Airbus A220-300 aircraft for a flight that will last approximately 2 hours and 55 minutes.

airBaltic serves over 70 destinations from Riga, Tallinn and Vilnius, offering the largest variety of destinations and convenient connections via Riga to its network spanning Europe, Scandinavia, the CIS and the Middle East. For summer 2019, airBaltic will launch new direct routes from Riga to Dublin, Stuttgart and Lviv as well as Kos and Menorca.
