Qatar Airways has announced that it has upgraded five of its current order of Airbus A350-900s to the higher-capacity A350-1000. The airline has already taken delivery of 30 A350 aircraft (27 A350-900 and three A350-1000) from the total order of 76 A350 XWBs.
The decision to upgrade the original order comes just eight months after the award-winning airline, which was the global launch customer for both A350 types, welcomed the first A350-1000 into its fleet. The strong performance of this state-of-the-art aircraft and the need for extra capacity on the worldโs fastest growing airline are the key factors behind this latest announcement.
The A350-1000 is seven meters longer than its younger sibling and offers 28 percent more capacity in the Premium class cabin. It also features the airlineโs revolutionary Qsuite seat, which offers passengers a First Class experience in the Business Class cabin.
The A350-1000 currently operates on the London (Heathrow) (top) and Frankfurt routes and will launch on the Doha – New York JFK service from October 28, 2018.
The A350 XWB features the latest aerodynamic design, carbon fiber fuselage and wings, plus new fuel-efficient Rolls-Royce engines. Together, these latest technologies translate into unrivalled levels of operational efficiency, with a 25 per cent reduction in fuel burn and emissions, and significantly lower maintenance costs.
The A350 XWB features an Airspace cabin, which on top of the aircraft spaciousness and quietness, provides better ambience, design and services, contributing to superior levels of comfort and well-being, and setting new standards in terms of flight experience for all passengers.

Qatar Airways has announced the new Airbus A350-1000 โ equipped with the airlineโs luxurious, award-winning Qsuite will be available on flights from Doha (below) to and from Singaporeโs Changi Airport from ย November 1, 2018. The aircraft will also be introduced daily to Tokyoโs Haneda Airport from ย January 1, 2019.
The two cities will be the first of Qatar Airwaysโ growing Far East network to welcome the ultramodern A350-1000 equipped with Qsuite.
Two of Singaporeโs triple-daily A350-900 services will gradually transition to the A350-1000 starting from 1 November 2018. The route is expected to be served entirely with the A350-1000 by April 2019.
One of the latest additions to the Airbus family of twin-aisle, widebody jetliners, the A350-1000 offers 327 seats across two cabins โ 46 Qsuite Business Class seats and 281 extra-wide 18-inch seats in Economy Class. Similar to the A350-900 โ for which Qatar Airways was also the global launch customer โ the high-performance A350-1000 boasts an advanced airframe with extensive use of composite materials. Coupled with a fuselage innovatively built with carbon-fibre reinforced plastic, the jetliner burns lesser fuel, reducing harmful effects to the environment. On the inside, LED mood lighting mimics a natural sunrise and sunset to help reduce the effects of jet lag.
Business Class passengers will be treated to the Qsuite experience, featuring the industryโs first-ever double-bed in business class. Sliding panels allow passengers in adjoining seats to transform their space into private cabins so business colleagues, families and friends can work, socialise and dine together during the flight. These revolutionary features led Qatar Airways to win the โBest Business Class Seatโ and โBest Business Classโ awards at the 2018 Skytrax World Airline Awards.
Qatar Airways currently operates a modern fleet of more than 200 aircraft via its hub, HIA, to more than 150 destinations worldwide. Earlier this year, Qatar Airways revealed a host of forthcoming global destinations in line with its expedited expansion plan, including Tallinn, Estonia; Valletta, Malta; Langkawi, Malaysia and Da Nang, Vietnam.

Kick-starting the final leg of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia, as weโve unveiled a new FIFA livery freshly painted on one of ourย Boeing 777 aircraft. We are ready for take-off to the 2022 World Cup.

Qatar Airways, an Official Partner and the Official Airline of FIFA, has taken its celebration of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia to the skies with a specially-branded Boeing 777 aircraft painted in FIFA livery, ahead of the tournamentโs Semi-Final and Final match.
The bespoke aircraft, which features distinctive FIFA branding, was hand-painted in Ireland and flown to Doha, where a press conference was held at Hamad International Airport before the aircraft flew to Moscow just in time for the tournamentโs Semi-Final and Final matches.

Qatar Airways kicked off its celebration of the tournament by teaming up with singer and TV starย Nicole Scherzinger for a re-recording of the classic song ‘Dancing in the Streets’, which resulted in an upbeat and infectiously fun-filled โmusicalโ style TV commercial. The song expresses the airlineโs firm belief that sport is a universal language, which has the power to inspire and encourage people to follow their dreams, with the commercial having a global reach to date of 2.6 billion people.
In December 2017, Qatar Airways launched daily services to the cultural capital of Russia, St. Petersburg, doubling the number of Russian routes operated by the carrier. The addition of St. Petersburg to Qatar Airwaysโ route map demonstrates the importance of the Russian market to the carrier, which has been flying to Moscow since 2004. The award-winning airline currently operates three daily flights between Moscow and Doha, in addition to a daily flight between St. Petersburg and Doha.
In April, Qatar Airways signed an MoU with Moscowโs Vnukovo International Airport, Russiaโs third-largest airport, committing to a potential acquisition of up to 25 per cent of the airportโs total shares, complementing the strong ties established with the country, and in support of the airlineโs existing investment strategy.
In other news,ย Qatar Airways has announced that the new Airbus A350-1000 (above) will be on display at this yearโsย Farnborough International Airshow, taking place from July 16-22 in Hampshire, United Kingdom.
The award-winning airline will showcase its ultra-modern Airbus A350-1000 and Boeing 777, both equipped with the award-winning, luxurious Qsuite Business Class seat. Unveiled last year, the patented Qsuite features the first-ever double bed in Business Class, as well as sliding panels that transform the space into a shared area customisable for groups of two, three, or four, allowing passengers to tailor their in-flight experience to meet their specific needs.

Qatar Airways will also display the Air Italy Boeing 737 Max 8 โ the first aircraft to feature the recently rebranded airlineโs striking new livery. The new Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft offers modern and spacious cabins, superior operating economics as well as greater fuel efficiency. The aircraft was recently unveiled in Seattle and delivered to Milan on its inaugural flight, signaling a new era in aviation for the people of Italy.

The airlineโs cargo division will also publicly display one of its freighter aircraft for the first time at Farnborough International Airshow. The Boeing 747-8 freighter gives cargo operators the lowest operating costs and best economics of any large freighter airplane while providing enhanced environmental performance. It is optimised to provide greater revenue cargo-carrying capability than the Boeing 747-400, offering 16 per cent more cargo volume while keeping its unique nose door. The Boeing 747-8 freighter is also a popular choice of charter aircraft especially for oversized cargo. Qatar Airways Cargo is the worldโs leading international cargo carrier, serving more than 60 exclusive freighter destinations worldwide, with many recent additions to its freighter network, including Pittsburgh, Phnom Penh and Yangon.
The fifth aircraft to be displayed at the airshow will be the Qatar Executive Gulfstream G500 jet. Qatar Executive, which provides VVIP charter on-demand-services to an elite clientele, continues to grow its global reach, serving worldwide destinations from New York to Shanghai. To support its ambitious expansion plans, Qatar Executive continues to increase the size of its fleet, and plans to take delivery of up to 25 additional aircraft between now and 2022, a combination of G500, G600 and G650ER jets.
The sixth and final aircraft to be displayed is the JetSuiteX Embraer 135 jet. The luxuriously reconfigured Embraer 135 offers 30 comfortable Business Class style seats, making it the ideal solution for group charters. In April 2018, Qatar Airways announced that it had taken a minority stake in JetSuite, Inc. and indirectly in JetSuiteX, Inc. JetSuiteX, the sibling company to JetSuite, offers semi-private air service on the U.S. West Coast and beyond. JetSuiteX fills a niche in underserved short-haul markets and small airports, and enjoys a Net Promoter Score over 90, higher than the major U.S. airlines. JetSuiteX operates its fleet of Embraer 135 aircraft from private terminals in California and Nevada, with no lines, no waiting and no stress, at a price competitive with commercial travel.
Qatar Airways recently launched direct services to both London Gatwick and Cardiff airports, strengthening Qatar Airwaysโ presence in the United Kingdom. Passengers in the United Kingdom can now choose from up to 95 flights per week, including six daily departures from London Heathrow, 16 weekly from London Gatwick and Manchester, and daily flights from Cardiff, Birmingham and Edinburgh.

Cathay Pacific Airways has become the second airline to operate the Airbus A350-1000, the worldโs newest long range widebody airliner. The airline took delivery of the pictured Airbus A350-1041 B-LXA (msn 118) was handed over on June 19, 2018 at a special event in Toulouse, France.
The aircraft is the first of 20 A350-1000s ordered by Cathay Pacific and will join the carrierโs growing fleet of 22 A350-900 aircraft.
With its true long-range capability, the A350-1000 will form an important part of Cathay Pacific long-haul operations. The aircraft will be deployed on the airlineโs new non-stop route from Hong-Kong to Washington DC, representing the longest flight – approximately 17 hours – performed by any airline out of Hong Kong.
The A350-1000 is the latest member of Airbusโ leading widebody family, showing high level of commonality with the A350-900 with 95% common systems part numbers and Same Type Rating. As well as having a longer fuselage to accommodate 40% larger premium area (compared to the A350-900), the A350-1000 also features a modified wing trailing-edge, new six-wheel main landing gears and more powerful Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines. Along with the A350-900, the A350-1000 is shaping the future of air travel by offering unprecedented levels of efficiency and unrivalled comfort in its โAirspaceโ cabin. With its additional capacity the A350-1000 is perfectly tailored for some of the busiest long-haul routes. To date 11 customers from five continents have ordered a total of 168 A350-1000s.

Cathay Pacificโs first Airbus A350-1000 has rolled out of the paint shop in Toulouse, France on March 6, 2018.
Cathay Pacific will be taking delivery the first of these 20 aircraft by the middle of the year.
The Cathay Pacific Group, which already has one of the most modern fleets in the sky, is investing substantially in its future expansion and will be taking delivery of 79 new aircraft between now and 2024, including six Airbus A350-900s and 32 A321neo aircraft and 21 Boeing 777-9Xs.
The efficient A350-1000 will form an important part of our long-haul operations and will be deployed on our new route to Washington DC starting in September. The service to Dulles International Airport will become the longest on the Cathay Pacific network.
Qatar Airways once again stole the limelight on the opening day of ITB Berlin, the worldโs largest international travel fair, as Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, announced the airlineโs aggressive expansion plans and 16 new destinations for 2018 – 2019 at a full press conference.
On the same day, the award-winning airline also unveiled a brand new interactive exhibition stand. Hosted by H.E. Mr. Al Baker, the unveiling was attended by the Qatari Ambassador to Germany, His Excellency Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, as well as a host of international media and VIPs.
At the Qatar Airways press conference, attended by almost 200 members of the international media, H.E. Mr. Al Baker announced a raft of forthcoming global destinations for the airline in line with its expedited expansion plans, including the announcement that Qatar Airways will be the first Gulf carrier to begin direct service to Luxembourg. Other exciting new destinations to be launched by the airline include London Gatwick, United Kingdom; Cardiff, United Kingdom; Lisbon, Portugal; Tallinn, Estonia; Valletta, Malta; Cebu and Davao, Philippines; Langkawi, Malaysia; Da Nang, Vietnam; Bodrum, Antalya and Hatay, Turkey; Mykonos and Thessaloniki, Greece; and Mรกlaga, Spain.
In addition, services to Warsaw, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Prague and Kyivย will increase to a double daily frequency, while services to Madrid, Barcelona and the Maldives will increase to triple daily.

The brand-new exhibition stand unveiled at the ceremony was designed with a concept of โaugmented reality.โ The new stand features a full 360 digital screen wrapping around the entire stand showcasing the signature Qatar Airways five-star journey, while in-flight entertainment experiences allow guests to place themselves virtually into one of the airlineโs Business Class seats, complemented, of course, by a full-size display of the airlineโs patented, award-winning โFirst in Business Classโ concept, โQsuite.โ
Further developments for the upcoming year were discussed, including additions to the airlineโs sporting sponsorship portfolio. Qatar Airways is already the official sponsor of many top-level sporting events, including the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia,โข the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatarโข and the FIFA Club World Cupโข, reflecting the values of sports as a means of bringing people together, something at the core of the airlineโs own brand message โ Going Places Together.

It is the first Airbus aircraft to be fitted with Qatar Airwaysโ revolutionary Qsuite Business Class seat.

Airbus President and Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Fabrice Brรฉgier, said: โIt is a huge source of pride for Airbus to deliver the very first A350-1000 to our launch customer Qatar Airways.
The A350-1000 is the latest member of the Airbus wide-body aircraft portfolio. As the global launch customer, Qatar Airways will be the first airline to fly the A350-1000, which will go into service on the Doha-London route this month. Qatar Airways operates six daily flights between Doha and London Heathrow Airport. The airline was also the global launch customer for the A350-900 in 2014, and now operates 21 in its fleet.
Compared to the A350-900, the A350-1000 features 44 extra seats, with a two-class cabin of 46 award-winning Qsuite Business Class seats in a 1-2-1 configuration, featuring 80-inch fully flat beds and 22-inch HD in-flight entertainment screens. This will include 46 suites, with the middle suites able to convert to six double beds, and six quad suites. Economy Class will contain 281 seats, each 18-inches wide in a 3-3-3 configuration, with up to a 32-inch pitch. Each individual seat will feature an 11.6-inch in-flight entertainment screen, and extra space at shoulder level for passengers in window seats, thanks to the near vertical side wall panels. It offers enhanced levels of passenger comfort, thanks to the lowest twin-engine noise level of any aircraft, advanced air conditioning technology and full LED mood lighting.
Two state-of-the-art higher thrust Rolls Royce Trent XWB-97 engines power Qatar Airways A350-1000, offering lower approach speeds. They were developed by Rolls Royceโ engineers with new technology in the engineโs core to provide a higher take-off thrust capability of 97,000lbs per engine, without compromising operating costs. As the worldโs most efficient large aero engine, they save around $2.9 million per aircraft per year on fuel.
Like the A350-900, more than 70 per cent of the A350-1000โs lightweight airframe is made from advanced materials combining composites (53 per cent), titanium and advanced aluminum alloys. The aircraftโs carbon fibre reinforced plastic fuselage results in lower fuel burn, as well as easier maintenance. The A350-1000 also features a distinctive all-new, six-wheel main landing gear and four per cent larger wings
Qatar Airways operates a wide range of 118 Airbus passenger and cargo aircraft in its fleet of more than 200 aircraft. This includes nine Airbus A380s, 21 A350-900s, four A340-600s, 13 A330-300s, 13 A330-200s, seven A321-200s, 39 A320s and two A319LRs.

Qatar Airways (Doha) has 37 new Airbus A350-1000s on order. It will be the first to take delivery of the stretched version.
The first, the pictured A350-1041 F-WZNR, has contractually been prepared by Airbus and is awaiting its hand over. It will now be delivered as A7-ANA in February according to Qatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker.
The delivery has been delayed from December 2017 because the carrier encountered problems with the installion of its new business class product called Qsuite (see video below).
Following an intensive flight test campaign performed in less than a year, the A350-1000 has received Type Certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The certified aircraft is powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines.
The EASA A350-1000 Type Certification document was signed by EASAโs Certification Director, Trรฉvor Woods, and the FAA A350-1000 Type Certification document was signed by FAAโs International Section Manager, Bob Breneman. Both certificates were handed over to Airbus Executive Vice President Engineering, Charles Champion.
โReceiving the A350-1000 Type Certification from EASA and FAA less than one year after its first flight is an incredible achievement for Airbus and for all our partners who have been instrumental in building and testing this superb widebody aircraft,โ said Fabrice Brรฉgier, Airbus COO and President Commercial Aircraft. โThe A350-1000 benefits from the maturity of its successful brother, the A350-900, which has translated into excellent right-on-time performance. We now look forward to deliver the first aircraft to Qatar Airways by the end of the year.โ
The Type certification is a requirement for the aircraft to enter commercial service. This milestone comes after an intensive flight test trials that have taken its airframe and systems beyond their design limits to ensure the aircraft successfully meets all airworthiness criteria. The three A350-1000 flight test aircraft powered by Rolls-Royce engines successfully accumulated over 1,600 flight hours. Of these 150 flight test hours were completed with the same aircraft in an airline like operational environment to demonstrate its readiness for entry into service.
