Video: KLM’s Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner: Orange Blossom

New video from KLM:

In a world where we roam the skies, something blue has arrived. It marks the dawn of another hundred years of KLM. Our newest member of the family: the seven-eight-seven-dash-ten Dreamliner. It’s big! It’s blue! It’s coming soon to an airport near you!

The new Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner, “Oranjebloesem” (Orange Blossom) registration PH-BKA, was delivered on Sunday, June 30. It was greeted at Schiphol with a water salute.

KLM is the first European airline to operate this more sustainable and economical aircraft. The Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner has the same efficient engines as the 787-9. The combination of these engines with the use of lighter materials in the 787-10 means it produces lower carbon emissions and less noise.

The 787-10’s design is highly sophisticated, with large windows and a spacious interior providing much more room and comfort.

This first KLM 787-10 Dreamliner will be deployed from 2 July on KLM services to Kilimanjaro and Dar es Salaam. KLM plans to have 15 Boeing 787-10s in its fleet by 2022.

KLM’s first Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner arrives in Amsterdam

KLM’s first Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner (PH-BKA, msn 42485) was delivered one day late on June 29. The new type arrived today at the Amsterdam base. The new airliner is named “Orange Bloesem” (Orange Blossom) and carries a special “100 Years” logo (above).

The 787-10 Dreamliners will be named after flowers.

EVA Air takes delivery of its first Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner

EVA Air today celebrated the delivery of its first Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner (B-17801), marking the first of 20 super-efficient 787-10s the carrier plans to use on high-density routes within Asia later this summer. The airline, which is also celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, already operates a fleet of four 787-9 Dreamliners.

Built with lightweight composite materials and powered by advanced GEnx engines, EVA Air’s 787-10 is the largest member of the fuel-efficient and passenger-pleasing Dreamliner family.

At 224 feet long (68 meters), EVA Air’s 787-10 can serve 342 passengers in a two-class configuration, which is 38 more seats than EVA Air’s 787-9 Dreamliner.

Air New Zealand confirms its order for eight Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners

Air New Zealand and Boeing have announced the airline plans to add the largest 787 Dreamliner model to its fleet with a commitment to buy eight 787-10 airplanes.

The first of these highly fuel-efficient aircraft will join the Air New Zealand fleet in 2022 and together they will have the potential to save 190,000 tons of carbon per year.

Air New Zealand’s widebody fleet currently consists of 13 Boeing 787-9s, eight Boeing 777-200s and seven Boeing 777-300 aircraft. A 14th Boeing 787-9 will enter the fleet later this year.

The first new aircraft is expected to join the Air New Zealand fleet in late 2022 with the remainder delivered at intervals through to 2027.

In addition to the eight firm orders announced today, the agreement includes options to increase the number of aircraft from eight to up to 20. The airline has also negotiated substitution rights that allow a switch from the larger 787-10 aircraft to smaller 787-9s, or a combination of the two models for future fleet and network flexibility. The delivery schedule can also be delayed or accelerated according to market demand.

These new long-haul aircraft will replace Air New Zealand’s fleet of eight 777-200 aircraft, which will be phased out by 2025. Combined with GE’s GEnx-1B engines, they are expected to be 25 percent more fuel efficient than the aircraft they’re replacing.

The 787-10 is the largest member of the super-efficient and passenger-pleasing Dreamliner family. At 224 feet long (68 meters), the 787-10 can serve up to 330 passengers in a standard two-class configuration, about 40 more than the 787-9 airplane. Powered by a suite of new technologies and a revolutionary design, the 787-10 set a new benchmark for fuel efficiency and operating economics when it entered commercial service last year.  The airplane allows operators to achieve 25 percent better fuel efficiency per seat compared to the previous airplanes.

Air New Zealand was a global launch customer for the 787-9 and today operates 13 of the Dreamliner variant. With another 787-9 on the way and the 787-10 airplanes in the future, the airline’s Dreamliner fleet will grow to 22. Air New Zealand’s widebody fleet also includes seven 777-300ERs and eight 777-200ERs, which it is progressively replacing with the aircraft order announced today.

ANA takes delivery of it’s first Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner

Boeing has made this announcement:

Boeing has delivered the first of three 787-10 airplanes (JA900A) to ANA (All Nippon Airways), the original launch customer of the 787 Dreamliner. With this milestone delivery, ANA becomes the first airline in Asia to operate the entire Dreamliner family.

As a stretch of the popular 787-9, the 787-10 carries a total of 330 seats in a standard two-class configuration, adding about 40 more passengers, while setting new benchmarks for fuel efficiency and operating economics with 25 percent better fuel per seat.

This delivery marks the 67th Dreamliner to join ANA’s fleet of 36 787-8s and 30 787-9s, the largest 787 fleet in the world. The SKYTRAX rated five-star airline plans to operate the new super-efficient 787-10 on its popular Tokyo-Singapore route.

ANA made this announcement:

All Nippon Airways (ANA), Japan’s largest and 5-Star airline for seven consecutive years, has announced that its new Boeing 787-10 arrived in Japan on March 31, 2019, from Boeing’s manufacturing facility in Charleston, SC. Among a range of upgrades, the advanced aircraft features upgraded seats with enhanced comfort and functionality in both Premium Economy and Economy Class.

“The 787-10 is a cutting-edge plane and ANA is honored to be the first Japanese airline to fly the aircraft,” said Hideki Kunugi, Executive Vice President of ANA. “ANA now has the distinction of being the only airline in Asia to operate all models (787-8, 787-9 and 787-10) of the 787 aircraft. The 787 fleet is known for its extremely low noise levels, excellent fuel efficiency and in-flight comfort, all of which support ANA’s mission to push the standards of air travel by investing in the latest technology.”

The Boeing 787-10 is scheduled to begin flying on April 26, 2019, from Tokyo-Narita to Changi-Singapore before it begins service from Narita Airport to Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport on July 1, 2019. These routes aim to meet the high demand for flights connecting prominent locations in Asia and will allow Japan to serve as a convenient connecting point for flyers.

Along with its new, more comfortable seats, the aircraft’s Premium Economy and Economy Class features a six-way adjustable headrest and the largest touchscreen personal seat monitor in its class. The seat monitors have been updated to include swipe-to-search ability and support for five additional languages – which brings the total to 11. The high capacity aircraft also offers the popular “Full Flat” seats, in the Business Class cabin. Furthermore, the next-generation “ANA Flight Path” map will be added to the flights, using 3D mapping to provide tourism guides and restaurant recommendations from Japan’s largest travel review site, 4 travel.

ANA plans to acquire a total of three 787-10s by the end of fiscal year 2020 and gradually introduce them to its Southeast Asian routes as part of its commitment to bring top-of-the-line aircraft and technology to travelers.

As the airline continues to execute on its comprehensive fleet plan which includes its widebody replacement strategy, United today announced an order to purchase an additional nine 787-9 aircraft. The company expects to begin taking delivery of the additional aircraft in 2020. The aircraft will be used to replace older widebody aircraft currently in service. Boeing made this announcement:

Boeing and United Airlines today announced the carrier is expanding its 787 Dreamliner fleet again with a new order for nine 787-9 airplanes, the longest-range member of the super-efficient Dreamliner family. The deal is valued at $2.53 billion according to list prices.

United Airlines says the order reflects its fleet strategy of replacing older widebody jets with new, advanced airplanes such as the 787-9, which can fly farther and use 20 percent less fuel with 20 percent fewer emissions. The U.S. carrier, which announced a purchase of four 787-9s in July, has now ordered a total of 64 Dreamliners.

The latest deal continues the strong momentum for the 787 Dreamliner family, with net orders now above 100 for the year and just one shy of 1,400 since the start of the program. Nearly half of all 787 customers have returned to place additional orders for the airplane, helping to make it the fastest-selling widebody jet in history.

United began flying the Dreamliner in 2012, using the long range and fuel efficiency of the 787-8 and 787-9 to serve intercontinental routes such as Houston to Sydney and San Francisco to Singapore. The 787-9 can fly up to 7,635 nautical miles (14,140 kilometers) and serve 290 passengers in a standard configuration.

Later this year, the carrier is set to take delivery of the largest member of the Dreamliner family, the 787-10, which can seat up to 330 passengers in a standard configuration. While the airplane is capable of flying long distances with a range of 6,430 nautical miles, United today announced plans to debut its first 787-10 on premium transcontinental routes in the U.S., boosting its coast-to-coast schedules to offer passengers travelling between New York/Newark and Los Angeles and San Francisco more flights and more premium seats.

Since entering service in 2011, the 787 family has flown nearly 280 million passengers while saving an estimated 28.7 billion pounds of fuel.
