Virgin America to fly to Hawaii with Airbus A320s

Virgin America (San Francisco) today announced it will start flying from San Francisco to Honolulu, Oahu from November 2, 2015, and Kahului, Maui from December 3, 2015.

In a private call last month, CEO Cush received permission from Hawai’i Governor David Ige to bring Virgin America’s new flight service to the state.

Virgin America Hawaii Schedule

The daily, nonstop flights will be operated with new Airbus A320 aircraft that Virgin America will take delivery of this year, which will be equipped with fuel-saving, ‘sharklet’ wingtip devices, allowing the airline to operate flights more efficiently, especially over longer haul routes. Virgin America is working with the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) and Airbus to ensure that the airline’s new Airbus A320 aircraft are certified for Extended Operation (ETOPS). ETOPS is the standard certification process carriers obtain for longer range over water flights.

Mokulele to fly from Kalaeloa Airport (West Oahu) to Kahului, Maui

Mokulele Airlines (Kona, Hawaii) has announced that plans are well underway to begin air service at Kalaeloa Airport on west Oahu this summer. Kalaeloa is located at the former Barber’s Point Naval Air Base John Rogers Field. Mokulele is working in cooperation with the state of Hawaii Department of Transportation Airports Division to target a start date of July 1, at which time Mokulele would begin offering three daily roundtrip flights between Kalaeloa (JRF) and Kahului, Maui (OGG).

In addition to completing the construction projects and other preparations required to open the new airport, Mokulele is currently working on flight scheduling and staffing. The opening of the airport for commercial traffic will initially create 6-10 new positions for customer service agents, ramp agents, mechanics, pilots and management personnel. The airport’s west Oahu location would make these positions ideal for residents of the Kapolei and Ewa Beach areas.

Mokulele’s new service from Kalaeloa will make air travel to and from Maui more convenient for residents of West Oahu as well as for those visiting the resorts and attractions in the island’s southwest region. When the new service begins, Kalaeloa will become the ninth airport Mokulele serves. As with most of the other airports Mokulele serves, parking is available and passengers will save time by not being required to go through TSA screenings.
