PLUNA performs test flight in Chile

PLUNA Lineas Aereas Uruguayas (Montevideo) on October 23, 2009 performed its first test flight inside Chilean territory. The overnight flight linked Santiago de Chile (SCL) with Punta Arenas (PUQ) as flight PU 441 carrying freight (newspapers, magazines and documents) in a seat container configuration. The company used Bombardier CRJ900 (CL-600-2D24) CX-CRB. The cargo was flown on behalf of SKY Cargo (a subsidiary of SKY Airline) thanks to an agreement with that Chilean company. PLUNA is planning to operate passenger flights in Chile starting in December and will use the same aircraft on the route Punta Arenas -Santiago.

PLUNA wants to fly domestic routes in Chile

PLUNA Lรญneas Aรฉreas Uruguayas S.A.ย (Primerasย Lรญneasย Uruguayas deย Navegaciรณnย Aรฉrea) (Montevideo) has requested from the Chilean Joint Civil Aviation authorities (JAC, Junta de Aeronรกutica Civil) authorization for operating domestic flights on Chilean routes. ย A first step was made when the company issuedย  a request for operating air freight to JAC on July 24. ย As soon as the authorization is granted the airline will start offering cargo services in an agreement with the Chilean company SKY Cargo. The first route would be Santiago-Puerto Montt and Punta Arenas.
The second stage will see the airline operating passenger flights, as sources from that airline recently stated. There is an Open Skies agreement between Chile and Uruguay and this means that Pluna would see no problems for operating in Chile. It is important to watch if the small market of commercial aviation in Chile (thistorically dominated by LAN) would have room for a fourth domestic operator.
