In the end of the second quarter of 2015 (2Q15), Embraer’s  firm order backlog reached $22.9 billion (USD), the highest level in the Company’s history. At the end of the previous quarter, in March 2015, the firm order backlog totaled $20.4 billion.

During 2Q15, the Company delivered 27 jets to the commercial aviation market and 33 jets to the business aviation market, for a total of 60 aircraft – compared to 58 aircraft delivered the same period last year.

The main highlights of the quarter were $2.6 billion in firm orders at current list prices, announced at the Paris International Air Show. This included seven E190 for China’s Colorful Guizhou Airlines, eight E175 for SkyWest Airlines, which will be operated for Alaska Airlines, ten E175 for United Express and 15 E190-E2 and ten E195-E2 for the lessor Aircastle – excluding options and purchase rights under the contracts.

In May, Embraer had already announced an order for 22 aircraft (20 E195 and two E190-E2) from Tianjin Airlines, making it the first Chinese airline to order the E-Jets E2. In the same period, another contract was announced with Azul Linhas Aereas Brasileiras SA for the firm order of 30 E195-E2 jets.

Azul Linhas Aereas Brasileiras S.A. (Sao Paulo-Viracopos) and Embraer S.A. (São José dos Campos) have reached a final agreement for 30 firm orders for the E195-E2 jets. The contract, announced as a Letter of Intent (LOI) during the 2014 edition of the Farnborough International Airshow, in July last year, also includes an additional 20 purchase rights for the same model, bringing the total potential order up to 50 E195-E2 jets.

Currently, the Brazilian airline has a total of 82 E-Jets in service and another six E195s on order. It operates the largest fleet of E195s in the world. With this firm order from Azul, the E-Jets E2 backlog reaches 242 firm orders, plus 348 options and purchase rights.

The first delivery of an E-Jets E2 (the E190-E2) is planned for the first semester of 2018. The E195-E2 is scheduled to enter service in 2019 and the E175-E2 in 2020. Embraer’s E-Jets E2s have state-of-the-art Pratt & Whitney PurePowerTM Geared Turbofan high by-pass ratio engines (PW1700G on the E175-E2, PW1900G on the E190-E2 and E195-E2). Combined with new aerodynamically advanced wings, full fly-by-wire flight controls, and improvements to other systems, the E2s will deliver significant reductions in fuel burn, maintenance costs, emissions, and external noise.

Embraer rolls out first production E175 with fuel burn improvements

?????????????

Embraer Commercial Aviation (São José dos Campos) rolled out the first E175 (PR-EFG) featuring a range of aerodynamic improvements that reduce fuel burn compared to the previous production aircraft.  The modifications include the introduction of a new wingtip, systems optimization, and streamlining of aerodynamic surfaces.  The aircraft was presented to Embraer employees at a ceremony at the company’s São José dos Campos facility.  The first customer delivery of the E175 with the complete package of modifications is expected in the coming weeks.

The modified E175 aircraft recorded impressive results during several months of performance trials. Fuel consumption on a typical flight is 6.4% lower than the original E175, exceeding earlier-reported savings of up to 5%.

“The 6.4% fuel consumption reduction demonstrates the expertise of our development and manufacturing teams and partners, and our commitment to provide our customers with the best product to keep them competitive,” said Paulo Cesar Silva, President and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation. “We are delivering, on schedule, an airplane unique to the market. With the most comfortable passenger cabin in the 70 to 90-seat category, the E175 is the airplane with the lowest operating cost in its class.”

With these improvements, the E175 has become a best-seller in its category.  In 2013, four airlines in the USA (Republic Airways, United Airlines, SkyWest Inc., and American Airlines Inc.) placed 177 firm orders, 60 re-confirmable orders and 277 options for the E175.

The versatility of the E175 is evident when compared with 70 to 80-passenger turboprop aircraft.  On routes of more than 250 nautical miles (450 kilometers), the E175 offers better operating economics and greater productivity, as well as superior passenger comfort.

Besides reduced fuel burn, other improvements to the current generation of E-Jets include longer maintenance intervals, increased productivity and lower maintenance costs.  These improvements ensure that the airplane will remain competitive until the second generation of the jet, the E175-E2, goes into operation in 2020 when it will offer even greater operating efficiency.
