Swoop resumes international flights from Winnipeg

Swoop on November 1 resumed international flight operations at Winnipeg Richardson International Airport with the departure of flight WO 728 bound for Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. The ultra-low-cost carrier is set to bring even more sun service to Winnipeg with the return of non-stop flights to Puerto Vallarta on November 4, 2021 and launch of service to new destinations including Cancun on December 3, 2021 and Orlando (Sanford) on December 11, 2021.

Flight WO 728 marking the first international departure from Winnipeg to a sun destination since the onset of the pandemic.

Swoop takes off for San Diego

Swoop celebrated its first flight from Edmonton International Airport (YEG) to San Diego International Airport (SAN) today.

The ultra-low cost airline’s new service between Edmonton and San Diego will operate three times weekly during peak season on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

WestJet requires mandatory employee vaccination and mandatory traveller vaccination

WestJet made this announcement:

The WestJet Group has shared the evolution of its Safety Above All program to reflect mandatory employee vaccination and mandatory traveller vaccination, in line with the Government of Canada mandate.

Effective October 30, 2021, The WestJet Group will implement the federal government’s mandatory vaccination policy for air travelers and will operate as a fully vaccinated airline, managing minimal accommodations pursuant to human rights law.

Mandatory vaccination policy for travelers

For travel on or after October 30, 2021, the implementation of the federal government’s mandatory vaccination policy for travelers marks a major change to the Canadian travel journey.

For Phase I, for travel between October 30 and November 29, 2021, in order to travel with The WestJet Group, guests must prepare to provide proof of vaccination or proof of a valid PCR test to demonstrate the requirements for travel.

For Phase II, for travel on or after November 30, 2021, only proof of vaccination for guests 12 years or older, with narrow exceptions, will be acceptable for travel on the WestJet Group.

The WestJet Group mandatory employee vaccination policy

As announced, effective October 30, 2021, WestJet and Swoop will transition to fully vaccinated airlines with the implementation of the company’s mandatory employee vaccination policy.

All WestJet Group employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and full vaccination status is a requirement of employment for all future employees hired by the WestJet Group, with accommodations managed pursuant to human rights law.

Employees who failed to achieve full vaccination status by October 30, 2021, face unpaid leave and termination of employment.

International travel vaccination passport

The WestJet Group welcomes a standardized and digital proof of vaccination that will enable Canadians to securely and quickly demonstrate their vaccination status in order to travel abroad and is awaiting additional details on timelines, nationwide availability and global acceptance.

Swoop arrives in Sanford

Swoop on October 9 celebrated its first flight to Orlando Sanford International Airport. The ultra-low-cost airline’s inaugural service took off from Toronto Pearson International Airport at 8:00 a.m. EST and safely arrived at 11:00 a.m. local time.

The inaugural flight kicked off the first of four new nonstop routes to Orlando Sanford International Airport for the ultra-low-cost airline. In the coming months, additional nonstop service to Orlando Sanford is set to begin from Hamilton, ON, Winnipeg, MB and Edmonton, AB.

To celebrate this new route, Swoop’s Head of Flight Operations, Shane Workman, was joined by Tom Nolan, President of Sanford Airport Authority and Elizabeth Brown, President & CEO, Sanford Internal Inc., for an inaugural ceremony upon arrival at Sanford International Airport. Travelers were also treated to inflight refreshments and giveaways.

Swoop announces new seasonal service to Punta Cana

Swoop today announced new nonstop service from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) to Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ). Flights to Punta Cana are set to take off on December 5, 2021.

Swoop’s flight attendants ratify the new contract

Swoop has announced the successful ratification of the airline’s first five-year agreement for its Inflight Crew Members (Flight Attendants), represented by the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE).

This ratified agreement is in place from October 1, 2021, through September 30, 2026.

Swoop to fly from Winnipeg to Sanford (near Orlando) this winter

Swoop announced today new service between Winnipeg Richardson International Airport (YWG) and Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) to its winter schedule, reaffirming Swoop’s commitment to bringing more ultra-low cost service from Winnipeg to domestic and transborder destinations. Seats from Winnipeg to Orlando Sanford are on sale now, with non-stop service set to begin in December.

Swoop announces nonstop service between Toronto and Kingston

Swoop today announced new nonstop service between Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Kingston Norman Manley International Airport (KIN) in Jamaica. As part of the airline’s winter schedule, the new service will operate twice weekly, beginning December 8, 2021. To celebrate today’s announcement, Swoop is offering a limited quantity of introductory one-way fares between Kingston and Toronto starting from just $129^†CAD all-in.

The ultra-low cost carrier (ULCC) is also set to resume service between Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Montego Bay Sangster International Airport (MBJ) tomorrow at 7:00 am EST. Swoop’s return to Montego Bay marks the beginning of the airline’s restoration of its international network, with flights to the U.S. and Mexico set to resume through the fall.

Swoop has announced new nonstop service from Victoria to Las Vegas and Puerto Vallarta.

The airline also will celebrate its inaugural flight from Toronto to Victoria with flight WO 424 scheduled to arrive at Victoria International Airport at 12:38 p.m., local time and returning to Toronto at 1:30 p.m.

As part of the airline’s commitment to supporting the economic recovery of the Greater Victoria Region with access to affordable air travel, Swoop now offers point-to-point service to two Canadian destinations, Toronto and Edmonton and will provide sun-seeking Vancouver Islanders two new exciting destinations to explore this winter.

Swoop announces its winter schedules, will return to the U.S., Mexico and the Caribbean

Swoop today released its expanded winter schedule including increased nonstop domestic service and the re-introduction of flights to the United States, Mexico, and the Caribbean.

Following a sustained pattern of new daily bookings on par with pre-pandemic levels, the airline also announced it will proceed with planned fleet growth, inducting its tenth Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft into service this winter.

The first Canadian airline to fully re-enter its entire fleet into service, Swoop will operate all nine of its aircraft domestically during peak summer. The airline’s winter schedule will provide travelers with ultra-low-cost flights across Canada, as well as to sun and fun destinations including Montego Bay in Jamaica, Las Vegas and Mesa/Phoenix in the U.S., and Cancun, Puerto Vallarta and Mazatlán in Mexico.

Swoop will offer scheduled winter service to 14 destinations.

The addition of a tenth aircraft in time for the winter flying season will allow Canada’s leading ULCC to add new routes, destinations, and frequencies in pace with demand.
