Aviastar flies into another mountain

Aviastar (Mandiri) (Indonesia) (Jakarta) lost its de Havilland Canada (Bombardier) DHC-6-300 Twin Otter PK-BRO (msn 756) with its crew on June 29 in a remote part of Papua. The turboprop was operating a cargo flight from Dekai to Wamena.  It crashed into the side of a mountain while attempting to land at Wamena.  This historic airliner was an early aircraft operated by ASA (Atlantic Southeast Airlines) in 1981 when it was registered N126AS.

On April 9, 2009 the company lost its BAe 146-300 PK-BRD (msn E3189, ex G-JEBC) when it flew into Tengah Mountain also while on approach to Wamena.

Aviastar obtained its AOC in 2003 and has suffered three accidents in its short history.  It specializes in serving remote and often dangerous locations in Irian Jaya, Borneo, Kepri and Papua.
