Ethiopian Airlines (Addis Ababa) has been a loyal Boeing customer but it has now turned to both Airbus and Boeing for new aircraft. The flag carrier signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for 12 A350-900s with deliveries starting in 2017. The company also signed a firm contract for five 777-200 LRs (Longer Range) airliners becoming the first first LR operator in Africa. The first delivery will be in October 2010. The airline also has five 787 Dreamliners on order.
Press release:
How I wish other African Governments learn from the Ethiopian Government’s example on how to run a government owned airline profitably without bureaucratic interference and outright liquidation like it happened to Nigeria Airways and several other government owned carriers in Africa.Keep the flag flying-Ethiopia!
