Air France flight AF 447 stalled and descended 38,000 feet in 3.5 minutes

Air France’s (Paris) tragic crash of flight AF 447 became a bit clearer. The BEA has now issued its preliminary report (the final report could be another year). After reviewing the data of the recovered flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder, the BEA concluded flight AF 447 suffered a high-altitude stall before descending 38,000 feet in 3.5 minutes and then crashing belly first into the Atlantic Ocean before breaking up and sinking.

WHY DOES IT TAKE THEM A YEAR TO FINALIZE OR COMPLETE A REPORT?

I guess you would have to ask them Derek. Normally the NTSB takes about a year to issue a final report in the U.S. after the event. Since they just got new data, I would suspect it will still be a while before the final report is published in France.
