Scoot launches its first flight with the help of iPads

Scoot (flyscoot.com) (subsidiary of Singapore Airlines) (Singapore) today (June 4) launched its first low-fare route from Singapore to Sydney.

The reinvented carrier is using iPads for inflight entertainment instead of expense (and heavy) entertainment units in order to save on weight and fuel according to this Bloomberg report. The subsidiary airline is reducing its weight by seven percent even after a 40 percent increase in seating by using iPads. The iPads will be offered free to Business Class customers.

Gold Coast will be the second destination starting on June 12 followed by Tianjin, China in August.

The airline has also announced it will serve Taipei and Tokyo in the near future.
