Westjet to fly its first trans-Atlantic route to Dublin, Ireland

WestJet (Calgary) starting on June 15, 2014* will be offering its first trans-Atlantic service from St. John’s, Newfoundland to Dublin, Ireland, with connecting service from several other Canadian destinations.

St. John’s is actually closer to Dublin than Calgary.

    Great story Bruce never saw that coming. What aircraft do you think they will use? North American 757’s on lease or can the 737NG go that distance. Or might this pave the way for a 737-900ER order? I think they can do it. Looking forward to more news

      It caught me by surprise too Oliver. The press release did not mention any aircraft type but I believe the 737NGs will be able to handle it. Going west may occasionally require a tech stop when the headwinds are stronger.

        Maybe a stop halfway in Iceland or Greenland? However there is an Air Canada seasonal flight from St Johns YYT to London Heathrow operated by an A319. If Airbus can do it Boeing can too
