Wizz Air takes delivery of its first Airbus A321neo

Wizz Air, the largest Central and Eastern European low cost carrier, has taken delivery of its first of 184 A321neo aircraft on order at an event in Hamburg, with Jรณzsef Vรกradi, CEO Wizz Air and Christian Scherer, Airbus Chief Commercial Officer.

The new generation aircraft is powered by two Pratt & Whitney GTF engines and features the widest single aisle cabin with 239 seats in a single class configuration and offers operators maximum flexibility, fuel efficiency and low operating costs.

Wizz Air is an all Airbus operator, with more than 100 A320 Family aircraft operating all around Europe with 261 more to be delivered. With 184 of the larger A321neo aircraft on order, Wizz Air is the largest Airbus customer worldwide of the type.

Wizz Air announces two new routes from Kiev

Wizz Air has announced two new routes from Kiev (Kyiv) to Athens and Thessaloniki in Greece. The low-fare connection Kyiv-Athens is commencing on May 21 with 2 weekly frequencies, onย Tuesdays and Saturdays, while flights on a route Kyiv-Thessaloniki are commencing on May 20 and will be operated 2 times per week, on Mondays and Fridays.

With these two new routes connecting Ukraine with Greece, Wizz Air is now offering a total of 45 routes to 13 countries from 3 Ukrainian airports in 2019.

Wizz Air expands in Kutaisi, Georgia with six new routes

Wizz Air has announced the allocation of a third Airbus A320 aircraft to its Kutaisi base as well as the start of six long awaited new services from Kutaisi, Georgia to Eindhoven, Bari, Copenhagen, Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg, Tallinn and Charleroi.ย 

Wizz started operations from Kutaisi International Airport in 2012 and after 7 years of successful operations, and only 8 month after allocating its second aircraft to the Kutaisi base, the airline announced further great expansion at its Georgian base by allocating a third Airbus A320 aircraft in August 2019.

Wizz Air announces a new route from Tirana to Memmingen, Germany

Wizz Air has announced a new route connecting Tirana, Albania with Memmingen, Germany.

Commencing on September 1, 2019, the newest Wizz service will be operated with two weekly frequencies, on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Tirana, located only one hour from the Ionian Sea has been improving for decades regarding culture, economy and tourism. The city, which has been invaded by numerous empires through history has historic remains from the Ottoman Empire and the Roman Empireโ€“ therefore visitors can get a full picture of the European history in the Balkan throughout ages.

Memmingen in southern Germany is known for its picturesque old town with many courtyards, castles and palaces. Offering visitors a great number of interesting and unforgettable experiences โ€“ from environment friendly green areas to fascinating architectural gates and towers โ€“ Memmingen is an ideal getaway for those who would enjoy an active travel during a long weekend.

This new route is the second direct Wizz Air connection between Albania and Germany โ€“ as the Tirana-Dortmund route started operating in October 2018, providing affordable access for all types of travellers across Europe.

Wizz Air now offers a total of 4 low-fare routes to 3 countries from Tirana International Airport Nene Tereza and 18 destinations in 11 countries are directly available from Memmingen, providing affordable access for all types of travellers across Europe.

Wizz Airโ€™s first Tirana flight took off in 2017 and since then, the airline has carried more than 135,000 passengers on its low fare routes to and from Albania.

Wizz Air continues to expand in Skopje, Macedonia

Wizz Air has announced today the allocation of its fifth Airbus A320 aircraft to its Skopje base in July 2019, as well as the start of eight long awaited new services from Skopje to Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden, Bremen, Larnaca and Turku and from Ohrid to Malmรถ, Milan Malpensa, Munich Memmingen and Dortmund.

The fleet expansion will also enable to increase the number of weekly flights on Wizz Airโ€™s existing routes from Skopje to Gothenburg, Hamburg, Cologne, Malta and Basel/Mulhouse/Freiburg.

Wizz Air started operations from Skopje International Airport in 2011, growing its fleet to four aircraft over 8 years.In June 2018, two of the airlineโ€™s Airbus A320 aircraft have been upgraded to two Airbus A321.

Wizz Air expands its Varna base in Bulgaria

Wizz Air, the largest low-cost airline in Central and Eastern Europe and the leading airline of Bulgaria, has announced further capacity expansion to its Varna network, allocating an additional Airbus A320 aircraft, adding 6 new routes and updating the frequencies of some of the airlineโ€™s existing routes.

The new Airbus A320 will be joining Wizz Air’s Varna fleet in July 2019.

With the arrival of the new aircraft in Varna Wizz Air’s Bulgarian fleet will grow to a total of 9 aircraft, with 2 based in Varna and 7 in Sofia. The fleet growth will increase Wizz Air’s capacity in Bulgaria further by 14% year on year, manifesting in both new routes and frequency updates.

Starting in July 2019, the newest Wizz Air routes will connect Varna with three exciting German cities. The beautiful port town of Hamburg, Cologne the gothic gem and the remarkable cultural hub Berlin are all among the airlineโ€™s newest direct routes from Varna. The romantic vibes of Paris, the exciting Mersey-side in Liverpool and the historical harbors and the colorful creativity in Copenhagen are now available for passengers travelling from Varna at Wizz Airโ€™s genuinely low fares.

Wizz Airโ€™s first Varna flight took off in 2007 and since then, the airline has become the leading carrier at Varna Airport. In the first eleven months of 2018, Wizz carried over 400,000 passengers on its low fare routes to and from Varna representing 48% year on year growth, while more than 2.8 million passengers to and from Bulgaria, which represents 17% increase compared to 2017.

Wizz now offers more than 500,000 seats on its 14 routes from Varna, while in total more than 3 million seats on 49 services to and from Bulgaria in 2019, as it aims to create more opportunities for Bulgarian travellers and their visitors to enjoy low fares and outstanding travel experience.

Wizz now offers 49 routes from three Bulgarian airports to 18 countries.

Wizz Air expands its Bucharest base

Wizz Air hasย announced the expansion of its Bucharest base by allocating a new Airbus A321 aircraft to its Bucharest fleet, and the launch of two new routes to Memmingen in Germany and Castellรณn in Spain as well as raising frequency on six of its existing routes.

The new Airbus A321 aircraft will join Wizz Air’s Bucharest fleet in March 2019.

The new aircraft will allow for frequency updates on six of Wizz Airโ€™s current routes from Bucharest, including Dortmund, London, Doncaster-Sheffield, Bologna, Treviso and Eindhoven.

Wizz Airโ€™s first Bucharest flight took off in 2012 and since then, the airline has become the leading carrier in Romania.

WIZZ now offers 141 routes from Romania from its 10 airports with 30 countries.

Wizz Air to expand operations at Budapest and to open a new base at Krakow

Wizz Air has announced a further expansion of capacity in its Budapest network with one new aircraft, 2 new routes from Budapest to London Gatwick and Oslo, and frequency increases on 3 popular services. Next year Wizz is adding a total of 17 additional weekly flights to its Budapest schedule growing its seat capacity from the Hungarian capital to over 6 million for 2019, an increase of 8% year-on-year.

The new Airbus A321 will be joining Wizz Air’s Budapest fleet in March 2019.ย With the new A321 aircraft in Budapest and the one that has already announced in Debrecen, which is arriving in December 2018, Wizz Air’s Hungarian fleet will grow to 16 aircraft, with 14 based in Budapest and 2 at Debrecen Airport.

Starting in March 2019, the newest Wizz Air route will connect Budapest to London Gatwick, the second-busiest airport byย total passenger traffic in theย United Kingdom, afterย London Heathrow with a daily service. In April 2019, Wizz Air launches another new route to Oslo.ย Frequencies on Budapest services to Frankfurt, Tel-Aviv and St. Petersburg will increase by up to 6 additional flights a week.

Being the hometown airline of Hungary, Wizz Air currently operates flights from two Hungarian bases in Budapest and Debrecen with a total of 14 aircraft in the country. In 2018, the airline will carry over 5 million passengers to and from Hungary, which is more than any airline has ever carried on its Hungarian routes, and represents a 20% growth year over year. Based on the latest figures the airlineโ€™s operations support over 3,800 indirect local jobs** in 2018.

Wizz now offers 83 routes from Hungary connecting Budapest and Debrecen with 31 countries. ย
