EgyptAir to become new Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Airbus A320neo operators

Boeing and AerCap announced at the 2017 Dubai Airshow that EgyptAir will lease six Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.

EgyptAir, the national flag of Egypt, is leasing the airplanes from Dublin-based AerCap, the world’s largest 787 customer with more than 115 787s owned or on order.

EgyptAir’s selection of the Dreamliner builds on its long-term partnership with Boeing, which dates back to 1966 with the airline’s order for three 707s. Today, the carrier’s fleet includes a mix of Boeing 777s and 737s.

In other news, AerCap and EgyptAir announced they have reached agreement on the long-term operating lease of 15 Airbus A320neo aircraft, powered by CFM International’s LEAP-1A engine. These aircraft are from AerCap’s order book with Airbus and are scheduled to deliver in 2020.

The announcement was made during the 2017 Dubai Airshow.

AerCap is the world’s largest lessor of the A320neo Family, with 220 owned and on order.

EgyptAir flight MS 804 disappeared over the Mediterranean Sea on May 19, 2016

EgyptAir flight MS 804 was a regularly scheduled international flight from Paris
(Charles de Gaulle Airport) to Cairo International Airport in Egypt.

The flight went missing over the Mediterranean Sea in an area between Greece and Egypt on May 19, 2016.

56passengers and 10 crew members were on board the pictured Airbus A320-232 SU-GCC.

Egyptian authorities believe the plane most likely crashed into the sea.

According to Wikipedia, “Greek Defence Minister Panos Kammenos said that, based on radar data, flight MS 804 veered off course shortly after entering the Egyptian Flight Information Region (FIR). At an altitude of 37,000 feet, the aircraft made a 90-degree left turn, followed by a 360-degree right turn and began to descend. Radar contact was lost at an altitude of about 10,000 feet.”

EgyptAir to resume Manchester service

EgyptAir (Cairo) will resume the Cairo – Manchester route on July 3 initially with three weekly flights per Airline Route.

EgyptAir to end Manchester service on October 25

EgyptAir (Cairo) will end Cairo-Manchester service on October 25 per Airline Route. The route is operated five days a week.

The route, served by Boeing 737-800s, started on June 1, 2013.

EgyptAir (Cairo) is planning to start two new routes from Cairo in June 2013 per Airline Route. Cairo-Manchester will start on June 1 and will operate five days a week with Boeing 737-800s.

Service to Toronto will be via a code-share with Air Canada via London Heathrow (correcting our previous report).

EgyptAir’s flight MS 849 leaves the runway at Nairobi, Airbus A320 SU-GBG gets mired in the dirt

EgyptAir‘s (Cairo) flight MS 849 from Cairo to Nairobi, Kenya left the runway on landing at Nairobi yesterday (June 6) morning forcing the closure of the airport and diverting some flights. The flight with 123 passengers and crew members slipped off the right side of the runway on landing and all of the gear of the Airbus A320-231 SU-GBG (msn 366) got mired in the soft ground. There were no injuries.

EgyptAir resumes operations to Baghdad after 21 years

EgyptAir (Cairo) has resumed operations to Iraq after 21 years. The first flight resumed service to Baghdad on August 27 (four times a week). The company will also serve Irbil three times a week.

EgyptAir suspends all operations from Cairo due to the violence in Egypt

EgyptAir (Cairo) suspended its flights from Cairo yesterday, while other airlines scrambled to modify their schedules to meet a government-imposed curfew. Many airlines have cancelled all flights. The on-going street protests are presenting President Hosni Mubarak’s government with its biggest challenge.
