Bombardier delivers the first CRJ1000 to Garuda Indonesia

Bombardier Aerospace (Toronto) has delivered the first of sixย CRJ1000 (PK-GRA, msn 19025)ย to Garuda Indonesia Airways (Jakarta). Garuda Indonesia is the launch customer in the Asia-Pacific region. The Indonesian flag carrier also intends to operate 12 additionalย CRJ1000 NextGenย aircraft through a third-party lease agreement and holds options on 18 more aircraft of the same type.

The new type is due to be introduced into revenue service on October 17 on the Denpasar-Surabaya route.

Garuda Indonesia now has 18 Bombardier CRJ1000s on order

Garuda Indonesia Airways (Jakarta) in February 2012 ordered the six Bombardier CRJ1000 NextGenย regional jets and placed 18 options.

Now,ย a wholly owned subsidiary of Nordic Aviation Capital A/S (Billund) has signed a firm purchase agreement for twelveย CRJ1000 NextGenย aircraft with Bombardier. Nordic Aviation Capital has confirmed that the aircraft will be leased to Garuda Indonesia. Nordic Aviation Capital is one of the worldโ€™s largest lessors of regional aircraft, with a portfolio of over 160 turboprop and jet aircraft serving more than 30 customers in 20 countries.

Garudaโ€™s twelve leasedย CRJ1000 NextGenย aircraft, plus six firm-ordered directly from Bombardier in February 2012, will result in a fleet of 18ย CRJ1000 NextGenย aircraft. Should the airline also convert the 18 options placed with Bombardier, its fleet ofย CRJ1000 NextGenย aircraft would increase to 36.

Garuda Indonesia to also expand to Taipei and Tokyo Haneda

Garuda Indonesia Airways (Jakarta) besides Sydney as previously reported, is planning to expand to Taipei (Taiwan) with daily flights and to Tokyo (Haneda) via Denpasar (Bali) five days a week according to this report by the Jakarta Post.

Garuda Indonesia is planning a new route to Auckland, New Zealand

Garuda Indonesia Airways (Jakarta) is cooperating with Auckland Airport to promote Indonesia as a destination for New Zealanders according to this report in the Jakarta Post. The carrier intends to open a Jakarta-Auckland route in early 2013 which will be operated with Airbus A330-300s.

Garuda Indonesia signs contract today for 11 additional Airbus A330-300s

Garuda Indonesia Airways (Jakarta) has signed a firm order with Airbus for eleven more A330-300 widebody aircraft. The contract was signed today (April 12) in Jakarta by Emirsyah Satar, President and CEO, Garuda Indonesia and Tom Williams, Executive Vice President, Programs, Airbus, in the presence of Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and visiting British Prime Minister David Cameron.

The eleven A330-300s will join the Garuda Indonesia fleet in stages, starting in 2013 through 2017. Currently, Garuda Indonesia already has six A330-300s and eight A330-200s in operation. The published price of each A330-330 is listed at USD $231.1 million, making the total purchase price for the eleven aircraft USD $2.54 billion. Garuda currently operates six A330-300s and eight A330-200s.

The orders for the 11 A330-300s is part of Garuda Indonesiaโ€™s fleet expansion program, which is carried out to increase the airlineโ€™s capacity and develop the network in its medium and long haul routes. By 2015 Garuda will operate as many as 194 aircraft, consisting of Boeing 737-800s, ย Airbus A330-300/200s, Boeing 777-300 ERs and the Airbus A320s operated by Citilink.

Garuda Indonesia orders six Bombardier CRJ1000 jets

Garuda Indonesia Airways (Jakarta) has now been confirmed as the airline that ordered the six Bombardier CRJ1000 NextGenย regional jets and placed 18 options, announced by Bombardier on February 10, 2012 as an unidentified customer.

Including the order from Garuda Indonesia, Bombardier has recorded firm orders for 1,715ย CRJSeries aircraft, with 1,661 delivered as of December 31, 2011.

Garuda Indonesia receives shareholder approval to order and expand its fleet to 194 aircraft

Garuda Indonesia Airways (Jakarta) on February 2, 2012 received shareholder approval that approved the company’s Fleet Development Program for future expansion. The new proposal for the airlineโ€™s fleet development (deliveries through 2016) specified the number of additional aircraft as follows:

Boeing 737-800NG, from 10 units now increased to 20 units

Boeing 777-300 ER 10 units

Airbus A330-200 or other types of the Airbus family, from 6 units was increased to 24 units

Airbus A320 aircraft for Citilink, from 5 units increased to 25 units

Sub-100 seat type aircraft (to be determined), increased from 5 units to 18 units.

By 2015 Garuda will operate as many as 194 aircraft, consisting of twenty-four Airbus A330s, nine Boeing 777-300s, 85 737-800s, 50 Airbus A320s for Citilink, 25 sub-100 seat aircraft and three cargo freighters.

Previously, the Quantum Leap program had targeted a fleet growth to 154 aircraft by the end of 2015.

Garuda Indonesia to reduce frequencies to Amsterdam

Garuda Indonesia Airways (Jakarta) is reducing the amount of weekly frequencies (from seven to four) on March 1 on the Amsterdam route due to decreased demand.

The company issued the following statement:

“Due to the downturn of the economic conditions in Europe which has not shown any improvement in this current time and has been affecting to the declining market (air transportation) both to and from Europe, as of March 1, 2012, Garuda Indonesia will reduce daily flights from Jakarta โ€“ Dubai โ€“ Amsterdam (Europe) from seven to four times a week. Garuda, then, fly every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from Jakarta, and every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from Amsterdam. To serve the Jakarta โ€“ Dubai โ€“ Amsterdam route, Garuda Indonesia operates an A330-200 with a capacity of 222 seats, consisting of 36 in business class and 186 in economy class).

Garuda Indonesia to return to Haneda Airport in Tokyo

Garuda Indonesia Airways (Jakarta) will return to Haneda Airport in Tokyo on April 27, 2012 when it launches nonstop service from Denpasar (Bali) to Tokyo (Haneda) according to Airline Route. The new route will be operated with Airbus A330-300s five days a week. Garuda last served HND in 1977.
