Air France to go to summer-only Joon service to Iran

From Reuters:

Air France is cutting its Joon subsidiaryโ€™s service between Paris and Tehran to the summer season only, blaming a poor economic performance over two years in operation.

โ€œAir France has decided to adapt its program to better match demand,โ€ a spokeswoman said by email, adding that the decision would take effect from October 28.

Joon operates the Airbus A340-300 on this route.

Partnerships, the perfectly-balanced equation for even more destinations

In order to offer its customers the most extensive network and the best connecting opportunities on all continents, Air France-KLM is actively pursuing its policy of strengthening its existing alliances and exploring new partnerships.

For the 2018 summer season, the group will offer a wider choice of destinations and connections for customers travelling between India and Europe via Paris and Amsterdam thanks to the enhanced cooperation agreement recently signed with Jet Airways.

The joint venture between Air France-KLM, Alitalia and Delta Air Lines provides customers with access to more than 270 destinations beyond 27 North American cities and offers more than 215 destinations beyond the 28 European gateways.

To maintain its position as European leader in terms of capacity from Europe to China, Air France-KLM will continue its strategic joint venture with China Eastern from the main hubs at Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to Shanghai, while maintaining its joint venture agreements with China Southern and Xiamen Airlines on 5 services from Paris and Amsterdam to Chengdu, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Beijing and Xiamen.

Air France will offer the new Paris-Charles de Gaulle – Taipei route in cooperation with China Airlines, a member of Skyteam, with a codeshare agreement on this route, as well as destinations beyond the two hubs.

Air France and Vietnam Airlines, also a SkyTeam member, have signed a new joint-venture which has been in force since November 1, 2017. In this way, customers will benefit from a combined offer as well as improved and enhanced connections between the buoyant market of Vietnam and Europe.

With its partner GOL Linhas Aรฉreas Inteligentes, customers of the Air France-KLM group will benefit from 50 Brazilian destinations, now available from three gateways in Brazil; Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and Fortaleza.

The already-existing partnership between KLM and Kenya Airways provides customers with access to a vast network to East Africa and several connecting opportunities from Nairobi. The launch by Air France of the Paris-Charles de Gaulle โ€“ Nairobi route and the integration of the airline in the joint-venture with KLM and Kenya Airways considerably increases the Air France-KLM groupโ€™s capacity in East Africa.

Moreover, with KLMโ€™s integration in the joint-venture between Air France and Air Mauritius, KLM and Air Mauritius will share a coordinated flight schedule throughout the year on the Amsterdam-Mauritius route.

Air France introduces its new airline named “Joon”

Air France presents its new airline, Joon, which will start operating medium-haul flights from Paris-Charles de Gaulle this autumn, followed by long-haul flights in summer 2018.

Joon is especially aimed at a young working clientele, the millennials (18 to 35 year-olds), whose lifestyles revolve around digital technology. This new brand has been entirely designed to meet their requirements and aspirations, with an authentic and connected offering that stands out in the world of air transport.

Joon will not be a low-cost airline as it will offer original products and services that reflect those of Air France.

Joon is a lifestyle brand and a state of mind. Short, punchy and international, the name Joon is designed to address a worldwide audience.

Its visual identity is based on an electric blue color code symbolizing the airline’s dynamic attitude, as well as the sky, space and travel. The uniform of Joon’s flight attendants will be inspired by the new fashion codes, basic and chic.

“We started with our target customer segment, the millennials, to create this new brand that means something to them. Our brief was simple: to find a name to illustrate a positive state of mind. This generation has inspired us a lot: epicurean and connected, they are opportunistic in a positive sense of the word as they know how to enjoy every moment and are in search of quality experiences that they want to share with others. Joon is a brand that carries these values”, said Caroline Fontaine, VP Brand at Air France.

“With Joon, we have created a young and connected brand that will give the Group a new impetus. Designed for our millennial customers, it will offer more than just a flight and a fare, it will offer a global travel experience. Weโ€™ll provide a further update in September, with more details on the brand’s content, products, services, destinations and range of fares!” said Dominique Wood, EVP Brand and Communications at Air France.

THE REALIZATION OF THE TRUST TOGETHER STRATEGIC PROJECT

In the Air France-KLM Groupโ€™s brand portfolio, Joon is Air Franceโ€™s complementary younger sister, which will also inspire its customers to travel with its elder sibling.

This new airline will be managed by Jean-Michel Mathieu, CEO of Joon. As such, he will join the Air France Executive Committee.

โ€œThe creation of a new airline is a historic moment in many ways. Joon is another step in the deployment of the Trust Together strategic project. Its creation will improve the profitability of the Air France Group, enabling it to reduce its costs and ensure the sustainability of its business model. Jean-Michel Mathieu, who has taken part in the development of this new airline since the start, today becomes its CEO. With all the Group’s teams, we are concentrating our energy on the successful launch of Joon.โ€ said Franck Terner, CEO of Air France.
