Virgin America Announces Frequent Flyer Partnership with V Australia and Virgin Blue

Virgin America (San Francisco) announced today (April 1) that it has partnered with V Australia Airlines (Sydney) and Virgin Blue Airlines (Brisbane) to allow each airline’s loyalty program members to earn points when taking flights on the three Virgin-branded airlines.

Delta and Virgin Blue/V Australia to start code share flights in January

Delta Air Lines (Atlanta) and Virgin Blue Airlines (Brisbane) and its V Australia (Sydney) subsidiary will commence their code sharing alliance in January.

V Australia to order Boeing 777-200LRs

V Australia Airlines (Sydney) is interested in ordering six Boeing 777-200 LRs for the Sydney-New York (JFK) and Perth-London (Heathrow) routes in 2011 according to ATW. The subsidiary of Virgin Blue is also expected to order Boeing 737-800s and 737-900 ERs. The order is likely to be disclosed at the upcoming Dubai Air Show.

Emirates to code-share with V Australia

Emirates Airline (Dubai) will code-share with V Australia Airlines (Sydney) for trans-Tasman services starting on October 25.

QANTAS ponders sale of Air Pacific shares

QANTAS Airways (Sydney) has confirmed it is in negotiations with the Fijian government to sell its 46 percent share in flag carrier Air Pacific (Nadi). QANTAS would like to introduce Jetstar Airways service to Fiji to offset plans by Virgin Blue to introduce V Australia service to the islands.

V Australia lowers the LA-Australia airfares

V Australia Airlines (subsidiary of Virgin Blue Airlines) (Sydney) lowered its one-way airfare from Los Angeles to either Sydney or Brisbane to as low as $359 which will probably lead to another price war.

Delta and Virgin Blue announce a “joint venture”

Delta Air Lines (Atlanta) and Virgin Blue Airlines Group (Virgin Blue Airlines, Pacific Blue Airlines and V Australia) (Brisbane) have announced their intention to form a “joint venture” for greater cooperation. Ironically Delta and V Australia now compete on the Los Angeles-Sydney route. QANTAS Airways is aligned with American Airlines.
