Qatar Airways (Doha) has announced it will start a new nonstop route from Doha to Philadelphia with Boeing 777s. Qatar is expanding its relationship with American Airlines (Dallas/Fort Worth) and PHL is a future AA hub city. Philadelphia will become the carrier’s fifth U.S. destination and service will commence on March 1, 2014. Charlotte and Miami are likely to see future Qatar service.
Additionally the flag carrier will add a new route to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on September 18 followed by Clark International Airport (near Manila) starting on October 28.

Qatar Airways (Doha) announced an order for two additional Boeing 777-200 LR (Longer Range) airliners. This order was previously accounted for on Boeing’s Orders and Deliveries website attributed to an unidentified customer.
Qatar Airways already operates six 777-200 LRs, 11 777-300 ERs and two 777F Freighters. Including today’s order, Qatar Airways has 10 777s in unfilled orders.

Qatar Airways’ (Doha) fleet has now grown to 80 aircraft with the delivery of the 15th Boeing 777, up from 40 aircraft five years ago. However the fleet will grow to 120 aircraft by 2013 with a new DOH airport coming in 2012.
