Air India bucks the trend, will retain its Boeing 747-400s for now
Air India is not following the lead of other airlines regarding the future of the Boeing 747-400.
Although parked for the most of the time, Air India has four Boeing 747-400s (VT-ESO, VT-ESP, VT-EVA and VT-ESB) still remaining in its fleet.

According to BusinessToday.In and the Minister of Civil Aviation of India, Air India has no plans for the final phase out of its remaining Boeing 747-400s.
The average age is 26 years. Three of the four are currently undergoing maintenance according to the Minister.

Air India will continue to operate its Boeing 747-400s (for now)
Air India has gone to social media to correct reports it was planning to operate the last Boeing 747 revenue flight today (March 10):

The airline has four remaining Boeing 747-400s but most are parked. When operated, the Jumbo is mainly operated on domestic high-density trunk routes.

Air India resumes flights to Moscow
Air India resumed regular flights to Moscow’s Sheremetyevo International Airport on February 27 on the Delhi – Moscow – Delhi route.
Flights to Moscow (AI 155) will operate on Saturdays, with arrival at 22:35 Moscow time. The Moscow-Delhi flight (AI 156) will operate on Sundays, departing at 18:50 Moscow time.
Air India will serve the route on Airbus A320neo aircraft, and service will be from Terminal D.

Air India Airbus A321 strikes a vehicle on takeoff at Pune, India

“The incident happened on Saturday morning when the A321 (VT–PPU) was operating as AI 852 from Pune to Delhi. โDuring the take-off roll, while a speed of 120 knots (about 222 kmph), the crew saw a jeep and a person on the runway. To avoid conflict, they did an early rotation. The A321 had a tail scrape during taking off from Pune. It has safely landed at Delhi.”
Air India to operate the Boeing 747-400 on two domestic routes in June
Air India, with the demise of Jet Airways, is scheduling the Boeing 747-400 on two mainline domestic routes from Delhi during the month of June.
According to Airline Route, the carrier will assign the Jumbo to two daily routes from Delhi; Kolkata and Mumbai, starting on June 1.
The Boeing 747-400 fleet is now down to only four aircraft.
The type is also operated on high-density Hajj pilgrimage charters, mainly betweenย ย government charters.
Air India has not indicated when it plans to retire the last four aircraft.

Air India to start daily Ahmedabad – Muscat service via Mumbai
Air India on January 15, 2018 is starting daily service between Ahmedabad and Muscat via Mumbai.
Boeing, Air India celebrate airline’s 125th delivery

Boeing and Air India celebrated on October 11, 2017 the delivery of the airline’s 125thairplane from Boeing. The airplane is the 27th 787-8 Dreamliner (VT-NAC, msn 36299) for the national carrier.
Air India was an original member of the 787 Dreamliner launch group and took delivery of its first 787-8 in 2012. In all, the airline now operates 27 787-8 Dreamliners, along with 777-200LRs (Longer Range), 777-300ER (Extended Range), and 747-400s.
The Air India 787 Dreamliners offer a host of passengers-pleasing features such as large overhead bins, comfortable reclining seats, LED lighting, cleaner air, larger dimmable windows and an exclusive in-flight entertainment experience to passengers.
Air India operates the 787 Dreamliner to all its destinations in Europe and to other cities in the Gulf, Asia and Australia.

On August 15, 2016, Air India will restore the Ahmedabad โ London Heathrow โ Newark route with Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft according to Airline Route. The restored route will be operated three days a week. It was last operated in 2009.
Air India announces the world’s longest air route will start on December 2
Air India (Mumbai) has announced the launch of the world’s longest route starting on December 2 from Delhi (DEL) to San Francisco (SFO) with Boeing 777-200 LRs (Longer Range). The new long-range route will be operated three days a week.
The company is also reportedly considering new service to Amsterdam and Barcelona.
