Europe is now closed to all Boeing 737-8 MAX 8 and Boeing 737-9 MAX 9 operations. EASA has issued this statement:

Following the tragic accident of Ethiopian Airlines flight ET302 involving a Boeing 737 MAX 8, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) is taking every step necessary to ensure the safety of passengers.
As a precautionary measure, EASA has published today (March 12) an Airworthiness Directive, effective as of 19:00 UTC, suspending all flight operations of all Boeing Model 737-8 MAX and 737-9 MAX airplanes in Europe. In addition EASA has published a Safety Directive, effective as of 19:00 UTC, suspending all commercialย flights performed by third-country operators into, within or out of the EU of the above mentioned models.
The accident investigation is led by the Ethiopian Authorities with the support of the National Transportation Safety Board, as the aircraft was designed and built in the United States. EASA has offered their assistance in supporting the accident investigation.
EASA is continuously analysing the data as it becomes available. The accident investigation is currently ongoing, and it is too early to draw any conclusions as to the cause of the accident.
Turkish Airlines on March 1, 2019 quietly took delivery of TC-LYA (msn 60062), its first Boeing 737-9 MAX 9.

BOC Aviation Limited has announced that it has delivered its first Boeing 737-9 MAX 9 aircraft to its newest customer, Icelandair. The aircraft will be powered by CFM LEAP-1B Engines.

The pictured Boeing 737-9 MAX 9 TF-ICA (msn 44357) was officially handed over on February 22, 2019.

SCAT Airlines (SCAT Air Company) has announced it has concluded an additional contract to acquire two new Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft.

The two MAX 9s will arrive in Kazakhstan in May 2019, direct from Boeing, and will be operated in the summer flight schedule. The new planes will operate domestic and international flights.

Aircraft cabins will accommodate 189 seats, including 16 business class seats.

The airline currently operates the MAX 8.

Alaska Airlines is planning to introduce its new Boeing 737-9 MAX 9 on two routes in July, 2019.

According to Airline Route, the carrier will introduce the MAX 9 from the Seattle/Tacoma hub to both Los Angeles and San Jose, CA on July 15, 2019.
The new type will also be introduced a month later on the Seattle/Tacoma – San Diego route on August 15, 2019.
As previously reported,ย Alaska Airlines converted 15 Boeing 737-8 MAX 8s on order to the larger 737-9 MAX 9. This brings its MAX 9 total on order to 32.
Alaska initially orderedย ย 20 737 MAX 8s, 17 737 MAX 9s and 13 Next-Generation 737-900ERs.

Samoa Airways and Air Lease Corporation (ALC) have signed a memorandum of understanding in Apia, for the lease placement of one new Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft.
Scheduled for delivery in late March, the aircraft, which will be delivered direct from Boeing in Seattle Washington, will replace the National Carrierโs existing 737-800.
The MOU was signed by the Prime Minister, Honourable Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, Samoa Airways Chairman Feesago Siaosi Fepuleai and ALC Executive Chairman Steven Hazy.
The airplane will feature the new Boeing Sky Interior, highlighted by modern sculpted sidewalls and window reveals, LED lighting that enhances the sense of spaciousness and larger overhead stowage bins.
The MAXโs technological advances plus its powerful LEAP-1B engines are redefining the future of efficient and environmentally friendly air travel.

Samoa Airways is set to become the first airline in the South Pacific Region including New Zealand and Australia to operate the new Boeing 737 MAX 9.
The new aircraft will be configured with 16 Business Class seats and 173 seats in Economy Class, and will operate between Apia, Auckland, Sydney and Brisbane.
