Boeing, British Airways announce a commitment for three 777s

Boeing and British Airways today announced a commitment for three 777-300ER (Extended Range) airplanes. British Airways will take the 777s on an operating lease with a leasing company.

British Airways is one of the world’s largest operators of the long-range jet, operating 58 777-200ER and 777-300ER airplanes across its global network. British Airways also flies 28 787 Dreamliners and more than 30 747-400s.

The 777-300ER can seat up to 386 passengers in a three-class configuration and has a maximum range of 7,930 nautical miles (14,685 km). The airplane is the most reliable twin aisle flying today with the highest schedule reliability of any twin aisle airplane at 99.5 percent.

British Airways, part of International Airlines Group, is one of the world’s leading global premium airlines and the largest international carrier in the U.K. The carrier has its home base at London Heathrow, the world’s busiest international airport, and flies to more than 200 destinations in 75 countries across the globe. British Airways has a fleet of more than 280 aircraft.

Etihad Airways and EgyptAir expand their codeshare partnership

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the UAE, and Egyptian national airline EgyptAir, have announced a significant expansion of their successful codeshare partnership, widening their horizons to cover more destinations in Africa, North Asia and Australia for the benefit and convenience of their customers. Sales on the expanded agreement will come into effect from today, for travel from May 2, 2018.

The initial phase of the agreement was launched in March 2017 and saw both Etihad Airways and EgyptAir place their codes on each other’s flights operating between Abu Dhabi and Cairo. The second phase of expansion of the current codeshare partnership will see Etihad Airways place its ‘EY’ code on EgyptAir flights to a number of African destinations including Ndjamena in Chad, Nairobi in Kenya, Khartoum in Sudan, Entebbe in Uganda, Johannesburg in South Africa, and subject to government approvals, on flights to Nigeria, Eritrea and Tanzania, through the Star Alliance carrier’s Cairo hub.

The expanded partnership will also see EgyptAir place its ‘MS’ code on Etihad Airways flights from Abu Dhabi to Seoul, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney, and subject to government approvals, on flights to China.

Etihad Airways has been serving the Abu Dhabi – Cairo route since 2004, and currently operates five daily flights between the two capitals. EGYPTAIR operates up to three daily services on the route.

Emirates to launch nonstop Dubai-Newark service with a second daily flight from June 1

Emirates will introduce a new nonstop service between Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and Dubai from June 1, 2018, adding to its existing daily flight which operates with a stop in Athens, Greece.

The new nonstop service will be operated with an Emirates Boeing 777-300ER, offering 8 suites in First Class, 42 seats in Business, 306 in Economy Class, and 19 tons of belly-hold cargo capacity. Flight EK223 will depart Dubai at 0300 am and arrive in Newark at 0900 am. The return flight EK224 departs Newark at 1150 am, arriving in Dubai at 0820 am the next day. This new timing complements the existing Emirates service, as it provides travellers with a new option of a morning arrival in Newark, and a morning departure.

The morning arrival in Dubai also means east-bound travellers can conveniently explore one of the world’s most dynamic cities on a stopover day tour, before taking an evening connection to another destination on Emirates’ global network.

Changes at New York JFK

From March 25, Emirates will stop operating flight EK207/208, thereby reducing its services between Dubai and New York JFK to three daily flights. From JFK, Emirates will retain two nonstop flights a day to Dubai, and one flight a day via Milan, Italy.

With these operating updates at Newark and JFK, the total number of Emirates flights serving the New York metropolitan area will remain unchanged at 5 daily services from June 1.

Changes at Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood and Orlando

In addition, from March 25, Emirates will add two flights a week each to Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood (FLL), and Orlando (MCO), effectively returning to daily services at both airports and reflecting the steady rebound in customer demand.
