Emirates signs MOU with Maldivian to explore connectivity and other partnership opportunities

Emirates, the worldโ€™s largest international airline, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Maldivian, the national airline and leading domestic carrier in the Maldives, to explore codeshare, interline, and joint holiday package opportunities.

The two carriers are reviewing a codeshare agreement that will enable Emiratesโ€™ customers to conveniently book and connect from Maleโ€™ to more than 15 domestic destinations and the international destinations served by Maldivian.

Emirates and Maldivian will also explore opportunities to cooperate on their respective tour operating arms, to offer customers tailor-made packages including hotel stays at world class resorts and exclusive tours.

Emirates launched operations to the Maldives in 1987, and the airline currently serves the island-nation with 28 weekly flights, playing a vital role with supporting the countryโ€™s trade and tourism recovery. The airline was recently crowned as top carrier in the Maldives, connecting 265,000 passengers to the island-nation from top markets including, UAE, UK, US, Russia, and Germany.

Island Aviation Services Limited established in 2000 is wholly owned by the Government of Maldives and is based in the capital Maleโ€™.ย  Maldivian also the national airline of the country operates inter-island services within the county as well as international services to India, Bangladesh Thailand and China from its main hub at Velana International Airport.

Emirates currently has codeshare agreements in place with 23 airline partners and two rail companies. The airline also has an interline agreement with over 115 airlines and rail companies.

Emirates has safely restarted operations to more than 120 destinations within its global network, via Dubai.

Maldivian orders its first ATR aircraft; 1 ATR 42-600 and 2 ATR 72-600s

The national airline of the Maldives, Island Aviation Services Ltd (dba. Maldivian), and ATR are pleased to announce the signing of a contract for the purchase of the airlineโ€™s first ATR aircraft: two ATR 72-600s and one ATR 42-600. The three aircraft will be delivered in 2022.

The ATR 72-600 and ATR 42-600 will benefit from the new PW127XT engines, offering 3% reduction in fuel consumption and a 20% reduction in maintenance costs, along with the ability to use sustainable aviation fuels (SAF). Just as it is for the aircraft manufacturer, sustainable development is a major concern for the airline. ATR aircraft already boast the lowest fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of all the regional aircraft with ATR 72-600 aircraft consuming up to 40% less fuel than similarly-sized regional jets.

Maldivian is joining forces with ATR to contribute to the economic development of the archipelago. This initiative will complement the Government of Maldivesโ€™ air mobility policy and allow Maldivian to offer enhanced connectivity across the Maldives.

Maldivian is the national airline of the Maldives. It was established in 2000 and currently operates international flights in addition to inter-island services. Maldivian operates out of Its main base at Velana International Airport (MLE). Its current fleet consists of one A320, one A321, two Dash-8 Q200s, eight Dash-8 Q300s and 11 DHC-6-300 Twin Otter aircraft.

Maldivian signs service agreements with De Havilland Canada

De Havilland Aircraft of Canada Limited has announced that it has signed service agreements with Maldivian that will significantly enhance the airline’s operational performance.

The agreements will provide A and C Check Maintenance Interval Extensions, as well as Enhanced Structural Inspection Requirements (ESIR) for the airline’s fleet of 10 Dash 8-200 and Dash 8-300 aircraft.

Maldivian, owned and operated by Island Aviation Services Limited, is the National Airline of the Maldives, one of the most geographically dispersed countries in the world.

Maldivian takes delivery of its first Airbus A320, will open new routes to India and Bangladesh

 

Maldivian (Island Aviation Services Ltd. dba) (Male) has announced it will launch new direct routes to Mumbai, Chennai and Dhaka in November as part of its regional expansion. The first Airbusย A320, with 14 seats in the business class and 138 in the economy class will be flying these new routes.

The airline will operate three flights per week to Mumbai, Chennai and Dhaka. Flights to Mumbai will be on Wednesdays/Fridays/Sundays, while flights to Chennai will operate alternatively on Tuesdays/Thursdays/Saturdays.

The Maldives, a geological marvel nestled in the middle of the Indian Ocean, are made up of 1,190 coral islands that form an archipelago of 26 major atolls. Each of these atolls is fringed with abundance of exotic live corals and a rainbow of marine life.
