Finnair has made this announcement:

In line with its growth strategy, Finnair continues to grow its traffic and will add frequencies to popular destinations in Europe for summer 2018ย and winter 2018, as well as increase flights to the popular winter destinations in Finnish Lapland for the peak season in winter 2018/2019.ย The additions are fueled by the increasing number of Asians traveling to Finnairโ€™s European destinations.

Starting inย Juneย 2018, Finnair adds frequencies to its new year-roundย destination,ย Lisbon, where Finnair will operateย daily flights during the summer season. Finnair also adds frequencies to Barcelona, operating upย toย 18 weekly frequencies during the high season in summer 2018.ย Budapest will get a third daily flight for the summer season, with improved connections to Finnairโ€™s US network. In addition,ย Krakow will get two new weekly frequencies, with improved connections from Krakow to Asia and America, and Geneva will get one additional weekly frequencyย in summerย and winterย 2018.ย Finnair will also fly again to Astana, with two weekly frequencies in July-August.

Driven by demand from Asia, Finnairย is also addingย frequenciesย toย its winter 2018/2019 schedules.ย Finnair will fly to Madrid with a total ofย 10 weeklyย connectionsย in winter 2018, and Keflavik (Reykjavik) will also getย two additional weeklyย frequenciesย for winter 2018/2019.

Asian demandย isย alsoย fuelingย Finnairโ€™s growing traffic to Finnish Lapland, known forย its untouched nature, northern lights and possibilities for snow activities. Finnairย is addingย over 230ย flights to Finnish Lapland for the winter season 2018/2019, offering moreย connectionsย toย the popular winter destinations of Ivalo, Rovaniemi,ย Kittilรคย andย Kuusamoย during the peak travel season. Altogether, Finnairย will offerย 482,000 seats to Lapland during theย 2018/2019ย winter season, an increase of 15%ย compared toย the current winter.ย  Finnairย will also continueย the non-stop flights from London Gatwick, Paris and Zรผrich to Lapland during theย 2018/2019ย winter season.

Finnair is alsoย launching a newย Rail & Fly cooperation with Deutsche Bahn, combining air and rail travel. The new cooperationย means that customers buying a Finnair ticket to or from Germany can also include a rail trip to their booking. The cooperation covers more than 5,600 railway stations in Germany.

Finnair (Helsinki) has announced this plan to add extra seats to its Airbus narrow body fleet:

Due to a growing need for feeder traffic capacity, Finnair has decided to improve the space efficiency of its current Airbus narrow-body fleet, operating mainly on its European routes. According to the plan, seats will be added to the aircraft primarily without changing the leg space available to the passenger, so as to preserve travel comfort. Space efficiency will be improved by modifying storage and technical space at the front and rear of the aircraft.

The value of the investment is approximately EUR 40 million, and it includes 22 narrow-body Airbus aircraft in Finnairโ€™s fleet. The cabin layout change excludes five A321ER aircraft, which are already configured according to the plan, having 209 seats. The cabin reconfiguration is estimated to take two weeks per aircraft during 2017. The reconfiguration adds 6 to 13 seats depending on the aircraft type, increasing the passenger capacity of Finnairโ€™s Airbus narrow-body fleet as measured by available seat kilometers by close to 4 percent.

Finnair has previously stated it needs more European feeder traffic capacity with a view to the growth of its long-haul capacity. The additional capacity will be acquired mainly by increasing the average size of its narrow-body aircraft over the next few years.

Finnair will also opened a new route to Gazipasa (Alanya in Turkey) in the summer of 2014. Gazipasa has been very popular because of the short driving distance to Alanya, where many Europeans have holiday apartments. Finnair will next year operate more flights to Gazipasa, but less flights to Antalya to match the customer preferences.

With these new routes Finnair will operate to 67 destinations in Finland, Europe and Russia as well as 13 destinations in Asia.

The new routes will be operated with Airbus A319s, A320s and/or A321s.
