Saratov Airlines/Ivolga Airlines to shut down on May 31

Airline Color Scheme - Introduced 2013

As previously reported, Saratov Airlines announced on April 28, 2018 it operated its first flight (Saratov-Dalaman) as Ivolga Airlines.

That move, it appears, was not enough to satisfy the Russian regulators.

Rosaviatsia, which put the airline on a temporary AOC, has instructed the airline not to book and or issue tickets for any flights after May 30.

As a result, the carrier is shutting down all operations on May 31. Approximately 1,200 employees will be laid off.

Saratov Airlines becomes Ivolga Airlines

Saratov Airlines announced on April 28, 2018 it operated its first flight (Saratov-Dalaman) as Ivolga Airlines.

The airline stated (translated from Russian):

“On April 28, 2018, the pictured Embraer 190 VQ-BRY aircraft, under the Ivolga Airlines brand, returned to the Saratov Central Airport after performing basic maintenance in Rzeszow, Poland.

The Еmbraer190, VQ-BRY, on the same day operated the first charter flight on the route Saratov-Dalaman (Turkey).”

This change came after Russian authorities has extended its AOC for one month through May 30.

For now, the livery remains the same with new titles.

The airline suffered an image crisis when flight 6W 703, a domestic passenger flight from Moscow Domodedovo Airport to Orsk Airport in Russia, crashed. On February 11, 2018, the  Antonov An-148-100B, crashed shortly after take-off, killing all 71 people on board — 65 passengers and 6 crew members.

Is Aeroflot headed back to being the world’s largest airline again?

Rosavia (Moscow) will not fly as Russia’s second big state airline according to Reuters. The Russian government reversed its previous policy and announced today (February 2) that six airlines which were to due to be merged under the Rosavia name will be privatised this year in order for the assets to be merged into Aeroflot Russian Airlines (Moscow). The government previously wanted to combine bankrupt state aviation assets under the state corporation Russian Technologies and set up a new subsidiary named Rosavia to merge six state airlines, namely Rossiya Russian Airlines, KMV Avia (Kavminvodyavia), Vladivostok Air (Vladivostock Avia), Orenair (Orenburg Airlines), Saratov Airlines and SAT Airlines (Sakhalinskie Aviatrassy) (Sakhalin Airlines) under the Rosavia name and compete against Aeroflot. These airlines are now expected to become history. Is Aeroflot headed back to its Soviet size where it was once the world’s largest airline?
