SriLankan Airlines to lease three Airbus A350-900s from ILFC

SriLankan A350-900 (99)(Flt)(Airbus)(LR)

International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC), a wholly owned subsidiary of American International Group, Inc. (AIG), announced today it has signed a 12-year lease agreement with SriLankan Airlines (Colombo, SriLankan), the national carrier of Sri Lanka, for three A350-900 aircraft. The aircraft will support the airlineโ€™s long-haul fleet renewal.

SriLankan has also placed direct orders for four additional A350-900 aircraft with Airbus.

The A350-900s are powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-84 and are part of an operating lease agreement, which has an anticipated delivery timeline between July and September 2016. ILFC currently has two A330-200s and one A340-300 on lease with SriLankan.

SriLankan Airlines signs MOU for six Airbus A330-300s and four A350-900s

SriLankan Airlines (Colombo) has signed an MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with Airbus for six A330-300s and four A350-900s. The MOU will have to be finalized into a firm contract.

SriLankan Airlines opens a second international airport in Sri Lanka

SriLankan Airlines (Colombo) and theย president of Sri Lanka opened the country’s second international airport yesterday (March 18) on the island’s southeast coast.

Air Arabia (Sharjah) became the first foreign airline to operate scheduledย services to and from Mattala Rajapakse International Airport, approximately 168 miles south of the capital of Colombo according to this report by Hindustan Times.

SriLankan Airlines to join the Oneworld alliance in late 2013

SriLankan Airlines (Colombo) will join the Oneworld alliance.

Its election as a Oneworld member designate was announced as the Chief Executives of the alliance’s member airlines gathered for a meeting of the group’s Board at IATA’s 2012 World Air Transport Summit.

SriLankan is expected to be implemented into Oneworld late next year, flying alongside some of the biggest and best brands in the airline business. Cathay Pacific will serve as its sponsor in joining oneworld, supporting the airline through its alliance implementation program.

SriLankan already codeshares with oneworld member designate Malaysia Airlines – and today announced agreement in principle to codeshare also with oneworld partners Royal Jordanian and S7 Airlines.

SriLankan Airlines to drop long-haul routes from Male

SriLankan Airlines (Colombo) on March 25 will drop its long-haul flights from Male (Maldives) to London (Heathrow), Tokyo (Narita) and Zurich per Airline Route.

SriLankan Airlines restores service to Zurich

SriLankan Airlines (Colombo) today (December 23) restored twice-weekly service to Zurich, Switzerland. The flag carrier served ZRH from 1980 through 2005.

SriLankan Airlines considers a switch to the Boeing 777

SriLankan Airlines (Colombo) is considering a switch to the Boeing 777 as a possible replacement for its Airbus A340-300 fleet. However this may also be a bargaining ploy with Airbus.
