Tatarstan Airlines shuts down today

Tatarstan Airlines (Kazan, Tatarstan, Russia) today (December 31) is shutting down and will cease all operations. All passengers on the Kazan-Baku route will be transported by Ak Bars Aero (Bugulma, Russia) in the future.

The shut down was due largely to the terrible “dive into the ground” crash of Tatarstan Airlines flight 363 on November 17, 2013 which killed all 44 passengers and six crew members on board. Russia’s air transport regulator Rosaviatsiya recommended the airline’s AOC be revoked after it discovered inadequate training and overworked crews. The revocation was affective today.

Tatarstan:

Rosaviatsia recommends Tatarstan Airlines be grounded

Tatarstan Airlines (Tatarstan Aircompany) (Kazan, Tatarstan, Russia) is still operating. However Rosaviatsia, the Russian federal air transportation agency that monitors airline safety activities, has recommended the airline be grounded due to alleged breaches in training and crew rest times according to The Moscow News. The Boeing 737-500 that crashed at Kazan on November 17 was attempting a go around when it crashed directly into ground killing all 50 passengers and crew members on board. The crew may have not been properly trained and apparently lost control of the aircraft.

The airline issued this statement (translated from Russian):

In response to an emerging wave of disinformation, Tatarstan Airlines officially informs everyone all flights are operating as normal.

The Federal Agency is only recommending the AOC be revoked. In the case of a formal decision to suspend the activities of the airline, all passengers will be notified in advance.

Meanwhile the airline’s board of directors fired the current CEO Aksan Giniyatullin due to the November 17 crash according to The Moscow Times.

Tatarstan Aircompany Boeing 737-500 dives into the ground in Tatarstan, Russia, 50 dead (new video)

Tatarstan Aircompany (Tatarstan Airlines) (Kazan, Tatarstan, Russia) flight U9 363 with Boeing 737-53A VQ-BBN (msn 24785) crashed on landing at Kazan today (November 17) in Russia. The aircraft with 44 passengers and six crew members burst into flames, tragically killing all on board. The flight had arrived on a flight from Moscow (Domodedovo). The crash occurred on landing at 19:25 ( GMT).

Update: A dramatic new security camera video shows the Boeing 737-500 diving straight into the ground which would explain the lack of survivors in this “landing” accident.

Follow-up article from Reuters: The pilot pushed the steering column into a nose dive, crash investigators reported, citing flight data analysis. The Interstate Aviation Committee offered no explanation why the pilot, at an altitude of 2,100 feet, after aborting his first attempt to land, would make this extreme maneuver.
