VietJet Air to add Boeing aircraft

Boeing (Chicago, Seattle and Charleston) has issued this statement about a possible new customer in VietJet Air (Ho Chi Minh City):

Boeing and VietJet Air have announced the companiesโ€™ intention to collaborate and expand the airlineโ€™s future fleet with Boeing airplanes.

The memorandum of collaboration signing event was hosted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and witnessed by H.E Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of Vietnam Communist Party, along with other Vietnamese and U.S. government officials.

โ€œBoeing is honored to start this new partnership with VietJet,โ€ said Dr. Dinesh Keskar, senior vice president, Asia Pacific and India Sales, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. โ€œWe look forward to providing VietJet with the very best airplanes in the world such as the 737 MAX and growing this relationship for many years to come.โ€

VietJet Air, is a privately held, low-cost airline in Vietnam, with headquarters in Ho Chi Minh City is currently a loyal Airbus customer.

Thai VietJet Air starts operations

Thai VietJet Air (VietJetAir.com Thailand) (Bangkok) was planning to start its no-frills low-cost services on March 29 according to the Bangkok Post. The new associated airline of VietJetAir of Vietnam is commencing operations on the Bangkok (Suvarnabhumi) – Phuket route with an Airbus A32s. Service to Udon Thani and Krabi will follow.

According to the Bangkok Post, the original 51% owner, Thai businessmanย Somphong Sooksanguan, sold his interest to unnamed Thai investors.

VietJet Air’s first direct delivery A320 from Airbus makes its first flight, 63 A320s on order

VietJet Airโ€™s (VietJetAir.com) (Ho Chi Minh City) first A320 on order from Airbus has reached a new production milestone, with the aircraft having successfully performed its first flight in Toulouse, France. Appearing in its colorful livery (above), the aircraft now enters the final acceptance phase prior to delivery to VietJetAir by the end of 2014.

This A320 is the first of up to 100 A320 that will be acquired by the airline under a deal finalised in February this year. The acquisition plan covers firm orders with Airbus for 63 aircraft, plus 30 purchase rights. In addition the airline will lease seven more aircraft from third party lessors.

The aircraft will join an existing fleet of 16 leased A320s at the fast-growing carrier and will be operated on the airlineโ€™s expanding network of domestic and regional services.

In other news,ย VietJet Air will open a new route connecting Thanh Hoa City and Ho Chi Minh City, helping to tap growing demand for travel between the north central city and the southern hub.ย The inaugural flight will take off from Ho Chi Minh City on November 25, 2014. The flight duration for this new route is one hour and 55 minutes. The daily flight will depart Ho Chi Minh City at 9 am (0900) and land in Thanh Hoa at 10.55 am (1055). On the return leg, the flight will take off at 11.30 am (1130) in Thanh Hoa and arrive in Ho Chi Minh City at 1.25 pm (1325).

Thai Vietjet Air is planning to launch operations in September

Thai Vietjet Air (Bangkok) is the new Thai joint venture of Vietjet Air of Vietnam.

According to the new airline, Thai Vietjet Air is a joint venture between Vietjet Air (Ho Chi Minh City) and Kan Air (Chiang Mai). Vietjet Air will hold 49 percent and Kan Air will hold the controlling 51 percent of the stock.

The new airline is hiring cockpit and cabin staff.

The airline is in the process of obtaining its Air Operators Certificate (AOC) and plans to start operations in September with two Airbus A320s according to the Bangkok Post.

VietJet Air to start new routes to Danang and Nha Trang

VietJet Air (Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company)ย (VietJetAir.com) (Hanoi)ย will launch new services between Ho Chi Minh City and Danang on April 27 and between Hanoi and Nha Trang on May 19. The former will have two flights a day and the later will operate one daily flight per day.

The carrier will also increase flight frequency of HCMC-Hanoi route to eight flights per day on April 27, 2012 from the current three.

The new carrier launched domestic operations on December 25, 2011.

VietJet Air to launch scheduled operations on December 25

VietJet Air (Vietjet Aviation Joint Stock Company)ย (VietJetAir.com) (Hanoi) will launch scheduled passenger operations on December 25 between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Previously the upstart signed a contract to lease three Airbus A320s from Alafco Aviation (Kuwait).

VietJet Airย is the first privateย airline in Vietnam to be approved for operations. Using a low-cost model, the company was granted its initial approval to operate by the Vietnamese Minister of Finance in November 2007ย but due to various logistical and legal complications, the airline could not begin operating flights until this month. AirAsiaย (Kuala Lumpur) announced in February 2010 that it planned to purchase a 30 percent share in the airline through aย joint ventureย agreement, but withdrew its assistance in October 2011, citing the continued problems in the certification process.

 

AirAsia to acquire 30% of VietJet Air

AirAsia (AirAsia.com) (Kuala Lumpur) is acquiring a 30 percent share of newcomer VietJet Air (Hanoi) according to Flightglobal. The government approved the deal on February 9. The new entry has been proposing to operate new service to compete against flag carrier Vietnam Airlines since April 2009.

The upstart low-cost airline will operate under the AirAsia brand and will be formally known as VietJet AirAsia.

VietJet Air delays start-up again to May 2010

VietJet Air (Hanoi), Vietnam’s first private airline, has delayed its start-up launch date once again from December 2009 to May 2010. The new airline is planning to launch domestic flights with two Airbus A320s.
