Hainan Airlines expands its Airbus A320neo family fleet

Hainan Airlines, the flagship carrier of China’s HNA Aviation Group, has signed a firm purchase agreement with Airbus for 40 A320neo family narrowbody aircraft to drive its core domestic and regional expansion strategy. The order marks a major step in the carrier’s post-restructuring fleet modernization push, allowing Hainan to systematically replace aging single-aisle jets while expanding flight frequencies on high-demand domestic trunk routes and short-haul international sectors across East Asia.

The agreement specifies a multi-year delivery schedule stretching from 2028 through 2032, providing Hainan Airlines with predictable, disciplined capacity growth over the next decade. By integrating the advanced A320neo family, the Haikou-based airline expects to achieve a 20% reduction in fuel consumption and carbon emissions alongside significantly lower noise footprints relative to its previous-generation single-aisle fleet, delivering crucial operating cost savings amidst shifting regional fuel dynamics.

Aviation Capital Group Signs Lease Agreements with Skymark Airlines for Seven Boeing 737-10 Aircraft

Aviation Capital Group, a leading global full-service aircraft lessor, announced a long-term lease agreement with Japanese carrier Skymark Airlines for three new Boeing 737-10 MAX aircraft.

The aircraft are selected from Aviation Capital Groupโ€™s direct order book with Boeing and are scheduled for delivery to the Tokyo-based operator starting in late 2026.

Air Canada and Airbus launch joint initiative to scale domestic Canadian SAF and help reduce the life-cycle emissions of corporate travel

Air Canada and Airbus have announced a joint initiative to establish a Canadian Sustainability Co-Investment Platform, committing up to $13,700,000 Canadian Dollars ($10,000,000 US Dollar equivalent) to accelerate the production of commercial-scale Sustainable Aviation Fuel within Canada. The primary objective of the platform is to advance a selected domestic SAF project toward a Final Investment Decision. Both companies emphasize that establishing a supportive public policy framework alongside federal and provincial governments is critical to scaling local refining capacity, maintaining price competitiveness, and preserving air travel affordability.

As part of the partnership, Airbus has entered into a five-year agreement under Air Canada’s Leave Less Travel Program to address Scope 3 emissions from employee corporate travel. For its initial allocation, Airbus will purchase environmental attributes corresponding to more than 60,000 liters of SAF, which Air Canada will track and retire on the manufacturer’s behalf. This corporate demand mechanism complements Air Canada’s broader fleet renewal efforts, which include the introduction of fuel-efficient Airbus A220 and A321XLR aircraft.

A macroeconomic study conducted by Airbus and ICF highlights the substantial economic potential of building a domestic SAF market, projecting that replacing 40% of Canada’s aviation fuel demand with SAF by 2040 could generate $32,000,000,000 Canadian Dollars ($23,360,000,000 US Dollar equivalent) in gross domestic product and support 140,000 jobs across the agricultural, forestry, and urban sectors.

Air Cambodia orders the COMAC C909

At the 2026 Farnborough International Airshow, Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) achieved a historic international breakthrough by securing a firm order from Air Cambodia for 20 C909 regional jets. The deal marks Air Cambodia as the inaugural foreign flag carrier to formally purchase and commit to operating the Chinese-built regional jet platform. The C909 designation represents the official rebrand of COMAC’s twin-engine ARJ21-700 regional airliner, a structural update introduced by the state-owned manufacturer to bring its regional jet lineup into a cohesive naming convention alongside the narrowbody C919 and widebody C929 programs.

This landmark order represents a major geopolitical and commercial victory for COMAC as it seeks to export its commercial aviation lineup across Southeast Asia and break the historic regional dominance of Western aircraft manufacturers. For Air Cambodia, the addition of 20 C909s will provide the capital-efficient, short-haul capacity needed to aggressively expand domestic routes within Cambodia and establish high-frequency regional feeder services to key tourism and trade hubs in neighboring Vietnam, Thailand, and Laos.

The 787-10 will complement PAL’s fleet of 10 777 jets by expanding operational flexibility across the airline’s medium- and long-haul route network. Delivering unmatched fuel efficiency with the lowest operating cost per seat of any widebody jet, the 787’s composite design yields 25% less fuel use than the airplanes it typically replaces.
