US Airways (Phoenix) and Delta Air Lines (Atlanta) have concluded a major agreement that will permit US to expand its Washington (Reagan National) hub operations. US will acquire 42 pairs of slots at DCA. The transaction is expected to save US $75 million a year. The company will retain the US Airways Shuttle. Most of the routes being dropped are US Airways Express flights.

The move will permit Delta to establish a LaGuardia hub. DL will gain 125 pairs of slots at LGA and 11 additional gates.
