Spirit Airlines to add two seasonal routes from Minneapolis/St. Paul

Spirit Airlines (Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood) starting in April 2016, will begin new seasonal daily service between the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) and the Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL).

Spirit’s new seasonal service between Minneapolis-St. Paul and Philadelphia will operate from April 14, 2016 through November 9, 2016, and between Minneapolis-St. Paul and Boston will operate from April 28, 2016 through September 7, 2016.

This announcement follows Spirit’s recent announcement of new daily nonstop service between MSP and Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport (ATL), also starting in April 2016. With these additions, Spirit will operate nonstop service from Minneapolis-St.Paul to 16 cities, including Atlanta (starting 4/14/2016), Baltimore/Washington DC, Boston (starting 4/28/2016), Chicago, Dallas/Fort Worth, Denver, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood, Fort Myers, Houston, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Orlando, Philadelphia (starting 4/14/2016), Phoenix, and Tampa.

Spirit Airlines to add two more routes from Atlanta

Spirit Airlines (Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood) announced today it will add two new cites to its nonstop service options from the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL). The daily service starts on April 14, 2016 between ATL and Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) and Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY).

With these additions, Spirit operates nonstop service from Atlanta to 17 cities, including Atlantic City, Baltimore/Washington DC, Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas/Fort Worth, Detroit, Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood, Fort Myers, Houston (Bush Intercontinental), Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Minneapolis-St. Paul (starting 4/14/2016), New Orleans (starting 4/14/2016), Orlando, Philadelphia, and Tampa.

Southwest to add the Baltimore/Washington – Minneapolis/St. Paul route

Southwest Airlines (Dallas) is adding two daily flights from Baltimore/Washington to Minneapolis/St. Paul. The new, twice-daily, nonstop service begins on April 12, 2016.

Southwest has more than 60 nonstop destinations from Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. These include flights to the Caribbean and Latin America, including Southwest’s newest destination, Liberia, Costa Rica.

Delta to connect Minneapolis/St. Paul with Keflavik, Iceland

Delta Air Lines (Atlanta) will launch seasonal service to Iceland’s Keflavik International Airport from its Twin Cities hub beginning May 26, 2016.

Keflavik (near Reykjavik) will be Delta’s fifth destination in Europe from Minneapolis-St. Paul. Delta recently announced service from Minneapolis-St. Paul to Rome and also operates flights to Amsterdam, London, Paris and Tokyo-Narita. Iceland service will be operated in conjunction with Delta’s joint venture partners Air France, KLM and Alitalia using a 199-seat Boeing 757-300 aircraft. The aircraft offers 20 seats in the premium cabin as well as 29 in Delta Comfort+ and 150 in Main Cabin.

Delta to add two new European routes from Detroit and Minneapolis/St. Paul

Delta Air Lines (Atlanta) will launch the summer seasonal Detroit – Munich route on May 26 with Boeing 767-400 ER aircraft according to a company press release.

In addition, the airline will also add the seasonal daily Minneapolis/St. Paul – Rome (Fiumicino) also on May 26 with Boeing 767-300 ER aircraft.

In all, Delta will offer five new routes across the Atlantic beginning next summer: Detroit to Munich; Minneapolis-St. Paul to Rome; New York-JFK to Edinburgh, Scotland; Salt Lake City to London-Heathrow; and Raleigh-Durham to Paris-Charles de Gaulle.

American to add three routes from New York LaGuardia, returns to normal operations after computer problems

American Airlines (Dallas/Fort Worth) on January 5, 2016 is adding daily American Eagle Embraer 175 regional jet service from New York (LaGuardia) to Cincinnati and Indianapolis. The carrier is also resuming service from LGA to Minneapolis/St. Paul on the same date per Airline Route.

In other news, AA is inserting the new Airbus A321-200 on the Miami – Guayaquil route starting on June 2, 2016.

Finally American today is returning to normal operations after “computer issues” delayed departures at three hubs yesterday. The airline issued this statement on Twitter:

Alaska Airlines to launch more routes from Portland

Alaska SkyWest E175 + pilot (Alaska)(LR)

Alaska Airlines (Seattle/Tacoma) is launching daily nonstop service from its Portland, Oregon, hub to three Midwest destinations including Kansas City, Minneapolis/St. Paul and Omaha, Nebraska, starting on February 18, 2016.

The routes are in addition to new Portland – Austin, Texas service the carrier announced last month.

The daily flights will be operated by SkyWest Airlines (St. George) with 76-seat Embraer E175 jets featuring 12 seats in first class and 64 in coach, and boasting cabin dimensions on par with a 737.
