Hurricane Irene batters New York and the Northeast, over 10,000 flights cancelled

Hurricane Irene, a Category 1 hurricane but with a wide rain and wind field, is moving up the East Coast of the United States.  The storm is located near New York. All cities along the coast are being affected. Over 10,000 flights have already been cancelled up to last night with all airports closed along the way. The storm is now headed towards New York, New England, Canada and Iceland (see the projected path).
