US Airways (Phoenix) and American Airlines (Dallas/Fort Worth) have often been linked in the past as possible merger partners. However the Chapter 11 process now underway at American will make AA a more attractive candidate in the future especially with its future lower labor costs.

What is CEO Doug Parker thinking right now? Parker is an advocate for airline consolidation. However US Airways in essence still has not completed its merger with America West Airlines. US Airways is still really two airlines – East and West – with their own pilots and aircraft. That situation will have to be resolved before any AA tie-up is considered.
