Aviastar (Mandiri) (Indonesia) (Jakarta) lost its de Havilland Canada (Bombardier) DHC-6-300 Twin Otter PK-BRO (msn 756) with its crew on June 29 in a remote part of Papua. The turboprop was operating a cargo flight from Dekai to Wamena. ย It crashed into the side of a mountain while attempting to land at Wamena. ย This historic airliner was an early aircraft operated by ASA (Atlantic Southeast Airlines) in 1981 when it was registered N126AS.
On April 9, 2009 the company lost its BAe 146-300 PK-BRD (msn E3189, ex G-JEBC) when it flew into Tengah Mountain also while on approach to Wamena.
Aviastar obtained its AOC in 2003 and has suffered three accidents in its short history. ย It specializes in serving remote and often dangerous locations in Irian Jaya, Borneo, Kepri and Papua.
