Cebu Pacific Air takes delivery of its first Airbus A320 with Sharklets

Cebu Pacific Air (Manila) took delivery of its first A320 equipped with Sharklets today (January 21) during a ceremony in Manila, becoming the first operator of the new fuel-saving wing tip devices in the Philippines. Previously A320-214 RP-C3272 (msn 5442) was formally handed over at Toulouse on January 18.

Sharklets are newly designed wing-tip devices allowing airlines to reduce fuel burn by up to 4% on longer sectors. They are an option on new-build A320 Family aircraft, and are standard on all members of the A320neo Family. Cebu Pacific Air today operates 34 A320 Family aircraft, and has 48 more on order for future delivery, comprising 18 A320ceo and 30 A321neo.

Sharklets are made from light-weight composites and are 2.4 meters tall. Cutting airlines’ fuel bills by around four percent, Sharklets offer the flexibility to A320 Family operators of either adding around 100 nautical miles more range or allowing increased payload capability of up to 450 kilograms.

Cebu Pacific is one of the leading low cost carriers in the Asian region. The airline operates an extensive domestic and international network covering 32 destinations in the Philippines and 21 business and leisure destinations across Asia (see route map below).

Allegiant to add Airbus A319s

Allegiant Air (Las Vegas) today (July 30) announced its intention to lease nine Airbus A319 aircraft from GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) and to lease and eventually purchase ten Airbus A319 aircraft from Cebu Pacific Air (Manila). The introduction of the A319 aircraft will support Allegiant’s growth opportunities.

Allegiant plans to have the first two of these aircraft in operation in the second quarter of 2013.

Allegiant currently operates 58 MD-80 aircraft, four Boeing 757-200 aircraft and owns an additional two Boeing 757-200 aircraft.

Cebu Pacific Air adds the Manila-Hanoi route

Cebu Pacific Air (Manila) added the Manila-Hanoi route on March 17. Besides adding additional domestic frequencies, the airline is also adding Manila-Xiamen and Kalibo-Hong Kong on March 23 and Manila-Siem Reap on April 19.

Cebu Pacific Air to lease 8 Airbus A330-300s in order to launch long-haul routes in the 3Q 2013

Cebu Pacific Air (Manila) is entering the low-cost, long-haul business, taking on Philippines (Philippine Airlines) for market share. The carrier is planning to lease eight Airbus A330-300s for the new operation which is planned to start in the third quarter of 2013.

Cebu Pacific mulls long-range low-cost flights

Cebu Pacific to launch Manila-Hanoi flights in March

Cebu Pacific (Manila) will become the only airline flying from Manila to Hanoi, the capital city of Vietnam, when it launches its flights on March 17, 2012. It will be a twice weekly service using Airbus A319s.

Flights for this route are scheduled to depart Manila at 10:30 pm (2230) every Tuesday and Saturday, arriving in Hanoi at 12:30am. (0030). Return flights will leave Hanoi at 1 am (0100) every Wednesday and Sunday, and arrive in Manila at 5 am (0500). Cebu Pacific also operates daily flights between Manila and Ho Chi Minh City.

Manila-Hanoi-Manila will be the airline’s 78th route, with Hanoi being the 17th international destination. According to the airline, Cebu Pacific operates flights from the Philippines to the most number of capital cities in the Asia, and serves the most number of routes. It offers more than 90 flights per week from the Philippines to 8 Asian destinations in six countries.

Cebu Pacific Air finalizes its order for 30 Airbus A321neo aircraft

Cebu Pacific Air (Manila) of the Philippines has finalized a firm order with Airbus for the purchase of 30 A321neo aircraft. The contract firms up a previously announced MOU signed in June 2011. With this latest purchase agreement the fast-growing carrier has increased its total firm orders for the A320 Family to 71, of which 16 have already been delivered. The airline currently operates 25 A320 Family aircraft, including the 16 purchased from Airbus and nine leased aircraft.

Cebu Pacific plans to configure its A321neo fleet with 220 seats in a single class layout and will fly the aircraft across its expanding pan-Asian network. This currently includes 34 domestic and 16 international destinations, including Osaka, Seoul (Incheon), Beijing, Jakarta, Bangkok and Singapore. The airline will make a decision on its engine selection for the aircraft at a later date.

Cebu Pacific signs a MOU for 30 Airbus A321neos

Cebu Pacific Air (Manila) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Airbus for the purchase of 30 A321neo aircraft. The carrier has also exercised existing options for seven more standard A320-200s, increasing to 41 its total firm orders for the Airbus single aisle product line. The aircraft will join an existing fleet of A319s and A320s flying on the carrier’s fast growing domestic and regional network.

Cebu Pacific’s extensive network covers 33 domestic and 16 international destinations, including Osaka, Seoul (Incheon), Beijing, Jakarta, Bangkok and Singapore.

The A321neo is the largest model in the recently launched A320neo series, which incorporates new engines and large wing tip devices called sharklets. The advances will deliver fuel savings of 15 percent and additional range capability of over 500 nautical miles (950 kilometers), or the ability to carry two tonnes more payload at a given range. For the environment, the fuel savings translate into some 3,600 tonnes less CO₂ per aircraft per year. In addition, the aircraft will provide a double-digit reduction in NOx emissions and reduced engine noise.

Cebu Pacific Air orders seven more Airbus A320s

Cebu Pacific Air (Manila) placed a firm order with Airbus in April for seven more A320 aircraft. The latest contract increases the carrier’s A320 Family order backlog to 22 aircraft, scheduled for delivery between the last quarter of 2010 and 2014.
