China Eastern Airlines (Shanghai) and Shanghai Airlines (Shanghai) on June 8 started the consolidation process leading to a merger. The name of the new company is undisclosed. Trading of the stock of both carriers has been suspended.

China Southern Airlines (Guangzhou) has parked two brand new Boeing 777F freighters (B-2071 and B-2702) at Marana due to its current financial crisis. The two aircraft were flown to MZJ for desert storage on April 14. The Chinese carrier lost over $700 million in 2008, its first loss in three years.
