El Al Israel Airlines finalizes its order for four new Boeing 737-900 ERs

El Al Israel Airlines (Tel Aviv) has completed a contract to order four Next-Generation 737-900 ERs (extended range) and reserve options for future aircraft.

The Boeing 737-900 ER can seat up to 215 passengers in a single-class configuration and has a range of up to 3,265 nautical miles (6,045 km). The 737-900 ER offers 6 percent lower operating costs per trip and 4 percent lower operating costs per seat mile than competing models.

El Al will use the Boeing 737-900 ERs to replace the current fleet of 757-200s

Boeing will deliver EL AL’s new Next-Generation 737-900 ERs with the all-new 737 Boeing Sky Interior.

El Al Israel Airlines produces a 3Q net profit of $42.5 million

El Al Israel Airlines (Tel Aviv) reported a net profit during the third quarter of $42.5 million, compared to net profit of $12.3 million in the same quarter last year, an increase of 245 percent.

El Al starts Tel Aviv-Eilat flights with Boeing 737-700s

El Al Israel Airlines (Tel Aviv) has launched the Tel Aviv-Eilat domestic route. The airline will operate 17 flights a week (three a day from Sunday to Thursday and one a day on Friday and Saturday) in each direction from Ben Gurionโ€™s domestic terminal. The 55 minute flight will be operated using a Boeing 737-700 with 136 seats. El Al will only charge $11 one-way for UK-bound passengers. The offer is open to customers with return international flights from the UK.

JetBlue Airways reports a net profit of $30 million in the second quarter

JetBlue Airways (New York-JFK) reported net income for the second quarter of $30 million, or $0.10 per diluted share. This compares to JetBlue’s second quarter 2009 net income of $20 million, or $0.07 per diluted share.

In other news, JetBlue Airways and El Al Israel Airlines (Tel Aviv) announced that they intend to sign an interline agreement, providing new and convenient connecting options for both El Al and JetBlue customers wishing to travel between the U.S. and Israel. Beginning in September, customers will be able to purchase a single ticket for travel on flights of both carriers in one simple transaction, and enjoy seamless connecting service to Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion International Airport from most JetBlue cities via New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport.

El Al Israel Airlines (Tel Aviv) has cancelled its order for four additional Boeing 777-200s.

El Al loses $76.3 million in 2009

El Al Israel Airlines (Tel Aviv) reported aย loss for 2009 of $76.3 million, compared to a loss of $41.9 million in 2008. The company is also phasing out its remaining Boeing 757-200s, replacing them with newer 737NGs.
