Bonza to launch operations in September

Bonza, Australia’s newest carrier, is now planning to launch operations in September with three Boeing 737-8 MAX 8s.

The new airline is backed by Miami-based private investment company 777 Partners.

The start-up was founded in 2021 by Tim Jordan, a former administrator of Virgin Australiaโ€™s low-cost ancestor, Virgin Blue. The airline expects to launch operations in September 2022.

Greater Bay Airlines is now planning to launch operations this summer

Greater Bay Airlines (GBA) (Hong Kong) is now planning to launch operations this summer.

The new airlines is supported by Bill Wong Cho-bau.

The upstart had hoped to launch commercial operations in the summer of 2021.

However, due to the travel restrictions from the COVID-19 pandemic, Greater Bay Airlines has pushed its launch date several times.

GBA is an international carrier that offers scheduled passenger and cargo services. GBA received its first aircraft in September 2021, and the Air Operatorโ€™s Certificate in October 2021. In February 2022, it was granted the Air Transport License of Hong Kong. With this second aircraft joining the GBA fleet, the third aircraft is planned to join soon in 2022. GBA plans its fleet expansion according to market demand in the next 5 years.

FAA proposes to revoke Rhoades Aviationโ€™s Air Carrier Certificate (AOC)

The U.S. Department of Transportationโ€™s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has proposed to revoke the air carrier certificate of Honolulu-based Rhoades Aviation Inc. for numerous alleged safety violations.

The FAA alleges that Rhoades:

  • Failed to maintain Safety Management System records; address issues the FAA found with its general operations manual; conduct proper safety risk management when addressing discrepancies in its aircraft loading, weight and balance, and runway analysis manuals; provide revised manuals to the FAA; provide safety-risk-management documentation when it submitted its administration manual.
  • Operated two Boeing 737s more than 900 times after failing to add the aircraft to its maintenance and inspection program.
  • Operated a Boeing 737 airplane on 33 flights when it was not airworthy due to engine compressor fan blades that did not meet manufacturer standards.
  • Committed numerous violations related to its FAA-required Safety Management System program, including failing to ensure that the program was properly implemented and performing in all areas of its organization.
  • Conducted improper maintenance work on engine compressor fan blades and failed to properly document the work.

Rhoades Aviation has 15 days to respond to the FAA after receiving the agencyโ€™s enforcement notice.

BOC Aviation delivers first of seven Boeing 737-8 MAX 8 aircraft to Turkish Airlines

BOC Aviation Limited has announced that it has delivered the first of seven new Boeing 737-8 MAX 8 aircraft for lease to Turkish Airlines.

All seven aircraft are part of the Companyโ€™s existing order book and will be powered by CFM LEAP-1B engines.

Air Montenegro to fly from Podgorica to Istanbul

Air Montenegro will fly to Istanbul from Podgorica starting on June 18.

The seasonal route will operate twice a week through the summer season.

The airline will operate its Embraer 195s on the route.

Delta partners with Sky Express to offer more travel options between the US and Greek Islands

Delta Air Lines and Greek carrier Sky Express have announced an interline agreement to provide convenient connections for customers between North America and Greece. Delta is offering a record number of flights between the U.S. and Athens this summer, with services from Atlanta, Boston and New York-JFK, as Greece continues to grow in popularity with American travelers.

Effective May 19, Delta customers flying from North America will be able to fly on one of Deltaโ€™s daily nonstop services to Athens then connect to 34 hotspots across Greece and Cyprus operated by Sky Express. Destinations available to Delta customers one or two stops from the United States include the picture-perfect islands of Mykonos, Kefalonia and Santorini; family favorites Crete and Corfu; and Larnaca in Cyprus.

The partnership is another milestone for Delta, offering even greater network opportunities for North American customers and improving connections to Greece. The new routes complement Delta and Sky Express destinations available through existing agreements with Air France and KLM via Paris-Charles de Gaulle and Amsterdamโ€™s Schiphol Airport.

Sky Express operates a fleet of modern, fuel-efficient aircraft comprising A320neo and ATR 72-600 aircraft suited to the geographical environment of the Greek islands.

Condor inaugural flight to Boston takes off

Condor has made this announcement:

Off to Boston: Condor flight DE2038, operated with an A330-200 in a two-class configuration, took off at noon today from Frankfurt bound for the USA.

This is the first time that Germany’s most popular holiday airline has launched connections to the American metropolis on the East Coast. Effective immediately, flights are now scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. The first flight will be welcomed with a local welcome event at the airport, where Ed Freni, Massport’s Director of Aviation, will also speak. Among the invited guests are Michael Jรผrgens, German Deputy Consul General in Boston and Emily Westhoven, Executive Director German-American Business Council of Boston.

Boston is one of the three new destinations in Condor’s current summer flight schedule, along with San Francisco and Los Angeles. In total, Germany’s most popular holiday airline is flying to 16 destinations in North America this year. Condor is thus offering the largest range of flights to the USA in recent years.

Global Crossing Airlines announces wet lease of first Airbus A321 freighter to Avianca

Global Crossing Airlines (GlobalX) hasย announced the signing of a multiple-year charter agreement for its first Airbus A321 Passenger-to-Freighter (P2F) aircraft entering service to an affiliate of Avianca Cargo to support its North American and Latin America cargo programs.

The aircraft, which marks the beginning of the Companyโ€™s XCargoโ„ข division, is the first of thirteen (13) firm agreements with lessors, as well as seven (7) additional commitments to acquire and convert Airbus A321s in its P2F program.

GlobalX intends to bring all of these future converted aircraft to market between October 2022 and the end of calendar year 2024.

Terms of the agreement allow Avianca Cargo to wet lease or charter up to four additional freighters from GlobalX over the next five years. The aircraft will be the first A321 Freighter to be operated by a U.S. airline.
