Air Peace – a new client for SmartLynx Airlines

SmartLynx Airlines, a specialist in full-service ACMI aircraft lease services and a respected ACMI cargo and charter provider in the EU has announced the welcome procurement of a new client, Nigerian airline, Air Peace โ€“ Nigeria and West Africaโ€™s largest airline.

The agreement was signed between SmartLynx Malta and Air Peace on November 11, 2021 and will last until May 11, 2022. We will see SmartLynx Airlines, a family member of Avia Solutions Group, damp lease 2 A320s based in the Nigerian city of Lagos. The lease sees a return to Nigeria for SmartLynx who had operated in the region and the rest of Africa from 2007.ย

The onboarding of Air Peace comes as a part of SmartLynxโ€™ continuous reach into potential new markets. The move also demonstrates the companyโ€™s commitment to expanding its client portfolio, in support of the growing demand for safe travel. This commitment to safety has been underlined by SmartLynxโ€™s signing of the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Covid Charter.

The Chief Operating Officer, Air Peace, Oluwatoyin Olajide, stated: โ€œWe are happy to have entered into the 6-month damp-lease agreement with SmartLynx and we believe this will open up more layers of business relationship with them. We are damp-leasing two A320s to meet the growing travel demand in the Nigerian and larger West African markets while we expect to take delivery of more Embraer 195-E2 airplanes. Air Peace is committed to reducing the air travel burden of Nigerians and this deal with SmartLynx is a testament to this commitment. The two A320s will be deployed to boost both domestic and regional connectivity for our esteemed customers, as the Yuletide draws nearโ€.ย

President and Chief Operating Officer, JetBlue Airways is thankful

JetBlue Airways issued this statement:

As Thanksgiving approaches, gratefulness is always top-of-mind.

And looking back at the past nearly two years, and ahead toward the holiday season and beyond, I’m so thankful, both to our 21,000 JetBlue crewmembers, for coming together and leaning on each other as we navigated these unprecedented times, and to our customers, for trusting us to keep you safe.

With many holiday get-togethers planned and more international destinations open for travel, I am grateful for this opportunity for JetBlue to bring air travel back to humanity. Ramping back up has also not been without its growing painsโ€”and we appreciate your continued patience and support as we take this journey together.

As we look to serve a record number of travelers this holiday season, we’re proud of the steps we’ve taken to meet the holiday rush, and deliver the JetBlue experience that you know and love, including:

  • Increasing hiring across key teams, including Customer Support and Airports, and rallying broad crewmember compliance with all vaccine mandates and protocols.
  • Expanding our flight schedule to pre-pandemic levels, while also providing customers with additional options and flexibility in the Northeast through our alliance with American Airlines.
  • Continuing to trim down wait times at airports by streamlining lobby lines, introducing more signage and crewmembers to help customers find their way, and making our bag drop process as efficient as possible.
  • Reducing average Customer Support hold times to under an hour. (And for the fastest way to reach a live crewmember, you can chat with us atย jetblue.com/chat).
  • Deploying in-person Customer Support crewmembers at select airports.
  • Bringing back our full onboard selection of brand-name snacks and soft drinks.

As always, safety remains our #1 priority, and we encourage our customers to do their part to ensure a safeโ€”and seamlessโ€”holiday travel experience for all, including:

  • Keeping up to date on the COVID-19 testing and documentation requirements of your destination, as well as the safety protocols at the airport and on board, including masks for all travelers 2 years of age and older. These can change daily so be sure to check ourย COVID-19 info hub.
  • Double-checking the fare you purchased and whether it includes a checked bag and/or a carry-on. Learn moreย here.
  • Arriving early and allowing extra time for check-in, security and any destination-specific COVID-19 protocols. For international flights, we recommend arriving three hours in advance.
  • Considering public transit options for travel to and from the airport to avoid holiday traffic.

For 21 years, we have made it our mission to bring people together, during the holiday season and all year round. What we have all been missing these last almost two years we are now only too happy to provide, and provide safely, sensibly and securely. For this Thursday and beyond, happy holidays, and welcome aboard.

Happy holidays!

No, this not Jakarta, Indonesia. It is at San Bernardino, CA in the LA area. At least 22 Boeing 737s from the Group (Lion Air, Malindo and Batik Air) have been retired from service and are in storage at SBD.

In July 2021 Delta made this announcement:

Delta has entered into agreements to add 29 used Boeing 737-900ERsย and leaseย seven used Airbus A350-900s as it continues to streamline and modernize its fleet. The 36 additional aircraftย willย improve fuel efficiency and enhance the customer experience, while supporting Deltaโ€™s fleet renewal strategy focused on simplification, scale, size and sustainability.

โ€œThese aircraft are an investment in Deltaโ€™s future,โ€ said Delta CEO Ed Bastian. โ€œAs we look past the pandemic, Deltaโ€™sย disciplined, innovative approach to fleet renewal positions us for growth as travel demand returns,ย while enhancing the customer experience and supporting our sustainability commitments.โ€

The COVID-19 pandemicย provided an opportunity to simplify Deltaโ€™s fleet andย accelerate retirements of 18 widebody 777s, and the MD-88 and MD-90 narrowbody fleets, all of them older and less efficient. The pandemic also provided unique business opportunitiesย to add newer generation aircraft at attractive prices.

Widebody fleet renewal is instrumental to Deltaโ€™s recovery,ย and will help position Delta for sustained profitability and future growth. As Deltaโ€™s flagship aircraft, the A350 provides a world-class customer experience, enhances cargo capacity, reduces unit costs and contributes to a more sustainable future.

The next-generation A350s burn 21 percent less fuel per seat than the 777s they replace. Improved fuel efficiency is paramount to Deltaโ€™s ongoing efforts to reduce its carbon emissions and its Flight to Net Zero. The acquisition of 29ย narrowbodyย 737-900ERs also complement Deltaโ€™s existing fleet.

Delta will lease the A350sย through AerCapย and purchaseย 27 of the 737-900ERsย from funds managed by Castlelake, L.P., while the remaining two 737-900ERs will be financed fromย funds also managed by Castlelake, L.P.ย Both transactions are subject to closing conditions. Deliveries of the aircraft will be completed by the first quarter of 2022, and they will enter service after modifications are completed.

In addition to the seven A350s that are part of this announcement, Delta currently has 15 A359s in service and 20 on order.ย The addition of the 29 737-900ERs will bring the total to 159 in its fleet.

The agreement follows Deltaโ€™s decision in April to exercise options on 25 additional A321neo jets, which will start to deliver next year. Those aircraft offer the lowest seat costs in Deltaโ€™s fleet.

Ryanair to open a new base at Madeira Airport

Ryanair has announced the opening of its fifth base in Portugal with 2 new based aircraft.

NEW SUMMER 2022 ROUTES TO MADEIRA

Brussels Charleroi
Dublin
Lisbon
London Stansted
Manchester
Marseille
Milan Bergamo
Nuremberg
Paris Beauvais

Ryanairโ€™s CEO Eddie Wilson said:

โ€œWe are delighted to announce the opening of our new base in Madeira, which will deliver increased connectivity withย 2ย based aircraft and 40 weekly flights across 10 new routes, connecting Madeira with cities such as London, Paris, Dublin, Milan and Manchester on a year round basis. This $200m investment will not only boost Portugalโ€™s economy by driving vital tourism but will also create more than 60 direct jobs in the region and over 400 on-site jobs in Madeira. ย

Efficient operations and competitive airport charges provide the foundation from which Ryanair can deliver long-term traffic growth and increased connectivity. We worked closely with our partners in Madeira airport, Tourism de Portugal and APM to secure this growth and improve the services for those that live, work, or wish to visit the region.

At a time when other airlines are reducing their fleets and closing bases, we are delighted to continue to invest in both our people and airports in Portugal.ย We urge the Portuguese Govt. to do likewise by opening Lisbon-Montijo, scrapping the ill-timed aviation tax (which is a direct tax on tourism) and introducing a non-discriminatory traffic recovery scheme. ย All of which could be easily funded with the โ‚ฌ3.2bn of wasteful state aid granted to the small zombie airline TAP, by the Portuguese Govt.ย

Ryanair will operate over 160 Portuguese routes next Summer (over twice as many as TAP), to 15 countries, making Ryanair Portugalโ€™s number one carrier for choice, fares and on time performance.ย  To celebrate, we are launching a seat sale with fares available from โ‚ฌ29.99 for travel next Summer, which must be booked by Thursday 25thย November. Since these amazing low fares will be snapped up quickly, customers should log onto http://www.ryanair.com now to avoid missing out.โ€
