American takes the next step for new uniforms: Field test begins

American Airlines made this announcement:

After much anticipation and excitement, today more than 1,000 American Airlines team members from Flight Service, Airport Customer Service and Premium Customer Services will begin field testing their new uniform. The six-month field test is the next step in delivering an industry-leading uniform program designed in collaboration with frontline team members, ensuring the highest levels of textile safety, comfort, durability and brand integrity.

Over the past year, frontline team members from these workgroups have served on Americanโ€™s Frontline Uniform Advisory Team (FUAT), making key decisions that have a direct impact not only on how American proceeds with the new uniform, but also the breadth and depth of the changes made to its uniform collection.

Those participating in the field test represent 51,000 team members who will don the new uniform when it rolls out in late 2019. Throughout the testing period, field testers will provide weekly feedback on the fit, form and function of the uniform and are responsible for listening to input from their colleagues and sharing that information, too.

Alaska Airlines beer and snacks: A West Coast pub at cruising altitude

From the Alaska Airlines blog:

Whether Iโ€™m traveling for business or pleasure, I look for ways to relax and enjoy my time in the air, which typically involves enjoying a cold craft beer and a snack. Lucky for me, Alaska Airlinesโ€™ beer menu offers nothing but craft beer. The companyโ€™s rotating West Coast brews โ€“ along with a new line of feel-good retail snacks โ€“ pleases a variety of palates with a range of choices.

When considering beer and snack options, I approach my decisions the same way whether on the ground or in the air. I peruse the beer menu, make my decision and then look for a snack to accompany the flavor attributes of my beer. As I whiz across the sky at cruising altitude, I want to feel like Iโ€™m relaxing at the local pub.

Fremont Lush IPA + Creative Snacks Trail Mix

untitled 1 Alaska Airlines beer & snacks: A West Coast pub at cruising altitudeNew on the menu this week, Lush IPA (80 IBUs) from Seattleโ€™s Fremont Brewing offers a true, authentic taste of the Northwest, which is to say itโ€™s a hop-lovers dream. Brewed with hops from the Yakima Valley, the nationโ€™s most productive hop-growing region, this beer has earned the adoration of beer fans in the Puget Sound region and was named Best IPA in Seattle Magazineโ€™s 2018 Best of Beer Awards.

โ€œIโ€™m proud and excited that our hometown airline, Alaska, will offer Lush IPA to all passengers nationwide,โ€ says Matt Lincecum, owner and brewmaster at Fremont Brewing. โ€œIโ€™m proud that our brewery was picked to represent our region and excited to share the wonder of our local farmersโ€™ amazing hops and barley with every person that orders a Lush IPA on Alaskaโ€™s flights.โ€

โ€œLush IPA celebrates the ingenuity of the Northwestโ€™s hop farmers. It features new-school tropical hop flavors with classic, piney hop flavors for a rich, lush sensory experience,โ€ he continues.

According to Matt, the beerโ€™s soft, well-rounded melon notes pair well with a wide variety of foods. Try it alongside the all-natural, GMO-free Creative Snacks Trail Mix ย and notice how the fruity character of the beer is accentuated by the cranberry and other fruit flavors in the snack.

Alaskan Brewing Kรถlsch + Lukeโ€™s Organic Potato Chips

kolschcanmockup12oz r Alaska Airlines beer & snacks: A West Coast pub at cruising altitudeI love a hoppy IPA, but sometimes I crave a light and refreshing beer, like the Kรถlsch (18 IBUs) from Alaskan Brewing Company, another of the current beer selections on the menu. This Alaskan rendition of a German classic beer style is brewed with glacier-fed water at the companyโ€™s facility in Juneau, Alaska. This bright, crisp and refreshing beer is designed to please just about every palate and fits into an active lifestyle.

Sip this one while you enjoy a bag of Lukeโ€™s Organic Potato Chips, noticing how the sea salt helps enliven the beerโ€™s soft, cracker-like flavors.

โ€œBecause of its mild, easy-drinking character, this beer pairs well with just about any food; it accompanies all, but overpowers none,โ€ says Andy Kline, communications manager at Alaskan Brewing.

โ€œFor two decades, people up here in Alaska have been pairing this beer with activities like salmon fishing, hiking and kayaking.โ€

Firestone Walker Brewing says they created 805 Blonde Ale for the laid-back California lifestyle, but in recent years it has gained wider popularity up and down the West Coast.

Lagunitas 12th of Never Pale Ale + Krave Gourmet Beef Cuts

12th of never can image cropped Alaska Airlines beer & snacks: A West Coast pub at cruising altitudeSpeaking of a laid-back approach to life, the folks at Lagunitas Brewing in Petaluma, California have mastered the art. The breweryโ€™s quirky, fun-loving attitude is expressed in its creative, always-tasty beers. The breweryโ€™s 12th of Never Pale Ale (45 IBUs) is an exercise in balance, combining the yin of the hops with the yang of the malt. It is light, yet full bodied.

It is not quite as hop-forward as an IPA, but 12th of Never Pale Ale still packs plenty of aromatic, tropical hop flavor, which is counterbalanced by the grains.

The recipe includes some puffed wheat, which lends the beer a silky-smooth mouthfeel and helps it go down smooth and easy. Still, it is robust enough to stand up to the rich flavors of the all-natural Krave Gourmet Beef Cuts.

Dessert: Skinny Dipped Dark Chocolate Almonds

From a super-hopped IPA to a crisp and mild Kรถlsch, with a Blonde Ale and a Pale Ale that sit right between those two extremes, Alaska Airlinesโ€™ beer selection has something for everyone. Have a beer and a snack, relax and enjoy some time at cruising altitude in your flying pub.

Ukraine International retires its last Boeing 737 Classic

Type Retired: November 8, 2018 (flight AUI 718 Istanbul - Odessa with UR-GBD)

On Thursday, November 8, 2018, Ukraine International Airlinesโ€™ Boeing 737-300 aircraft with registration number of UR-GBD (below), operated its final flight under Ukraine International Airlinesโ€™ call sign.

Subsequently UIAโ€™s fleet consists of 42 aircraft with the average age of 10.5 years.

UIA continues its fleet renewal program. Three Classic Generation aircraft, including two Boeing 737-300 and one Boeing 737-500 were decommissioned. And now the companyโ€™s medium haul fleet includes only New Generation Boeing 737-800 and Boeing 737-900 with an average age of 8.7 years. These planes have bigger capacity and consume less fuel per seat kilometer.

In 1992 UIA became the first Boeing 737 family operator in Ukraine and offered its passengers a new level of comfort and service. Within 26 years of UIAโ€™s activity the company used 74 aircraft, 42 of which currently keep flying under UIAโ€™s call sign.

Moreover UIA was the first Ukrainian airline to install winglets on its planes increasing their fuel efficiency and reducing carbon dioxide emissions into atmosphere.

This year the airline added a new type of widebody long haul aircraft for the Ukrainian market โ€“ Boeing 777-200ER. Now three such aircraft operate UIAโ€™s flights to New York, Beijing and Bangkok. The company also operates widebody Classic Generation Boeing 767-300ER aircraft on its long haul routes which will be phased out in 2019-2020.

โ€œThe Classic Generation aircraft, UIA had started its activity in 1992, played its role. We thank them, as they were reliable planes, which let us become the airline UIA is now. โ€“ UIA Communications Director Evgeniya Satska said, – The next step to UIAโ€™s medium haul fleet renewal will be the arrival of three Boeing 737 MAX aircraft delivery. There start to be delivered in Spring 2019โ€.

Note: The last Boeing 737-500 (UR-GAT) (below) was retired previously on October 12, 2018 (flight AUI172 Stockholm – Kiev).

โ€‹The new service will make Delta the only airline to offer service to the southeastern U.S. from Burbank and the only airline to serve Atlanta from the four largest airports in the LA Basin, including Los Angeles International Airport, John Wayne Airport in Orange County, Ontario International Airport and Hollywood Burbank Airport.

The flights will operate on the following schedule and are now available for sale:

BUR at 11:15 a.m. ATL at 6:58 p.m.
BUR at 9:45 p.m. ATL at 5:28 a.m. (next day)

โ€‹Delta will operate Atlanta-Burbank service on Boeing 737-700 aircraft with 12 seats in First Class, 18 in Delta Comfort+ and 94 in the Main Cabin.

โ€‹Delta will offer 22 daily flights and grow the number of seats it offers between the LA Basin and Atlanta by 20 percent next summer with the addition of the two Burbank flights and two recently announced flights from Ontario to Atlanta, complementing the airline’s existing 14 flights from LAX to Atlanta and 4 flights from Orange County to Atlanta. In addition to its upcoming Burbank-Atlanta service, Delta also offers service from Burbank to Salt Lake City, another key film production market.

Delta’s presence at Burbank can be traced back to the 1930s when Western Air Express began operations on April 15, 1931. Western Airlines merged with Delta in 1987, marking more than 30 years of the Delta brand serving customers at Hollywood Burbank Airport.
