WestJet reports a record December load factor of 81.9 percent

WestJet Airlines (Calgary) today announced December 2012 traffic results with a record load factor of 81.9 percent. Revenue passenger miles (RPMs), or traffic, increased 7.2 percent year over year, and capacity, measured in available seat miles (ASMs), grew 6.0 percent over the same period. The airline flew 17.4 million guests in all of 2012 which is a year-over-year increase of 8.6 percent or approximately 1,383,000 additional guests.

“We are very pleased to close out the year with six consecutive monthly load factor records and ย  record high loads in all four quarters. Our positive momentum culminated in 2012 with a new single-day record of flying more than 57,000 guests on December 21st,” said WestJet President and CEO Gregg Saretsky. “Our forward bookings continue to be strong and I want to thank our more than 9,000 WestJetters for their great efforts and caring attitudes, despite challenging weather, that ensured another memorable holiday travel season for our guests.”

WestJet reached a major milestone in early December, when it took delivery of its 100thย Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft. In 2013, WestJet will take delivery of an additional five Boeing Next-Generation 737 aircraft and seven Bombardier Q400 NextGen aircraft. “With the delivery of its first two Q400s scheduled for June and the launch of its first schedule in February, excitement is building as WestJet Encore gets closer to providing more communities with access to our low fares and caring guest experience,” added Gregg Saretsky.

WestJet starts Edmonton-Kahului weekly service

WestJet Airlines (Calgary) yesterday (March 5) launched new nonstop service between Edmonton and Kahului, Maui. The inaugural flight departed the Edmonton International Airport at 7:30 a.m. (0730) MST yesterday. The seasonal route will operate weekly until April 30.

WestJet Airlines (Calgary) yesterday (February 5) took delivery of its first logojet.

WestJet introduces its “Care-antee” logojet

WestJet Airlines (Calgary) this month will take delivery of its new “Care-antee” logojet.

The new program was introduced on April 21, 2009. According to the airline, “Care-antee” is a comprehensive pledge to its customers that is “setting a new standard for service and value in the Canadian airline industry. The WestJet Care-antee is a set of promises we vow to uphold in good times and bad. It’s a very public commitment to our guests that we will continue to deliver exceptional service and value, especially now when they need it most.”

Here are the written guarantees the company is making to its customers:

– We will not charge you to change or cancel your flight for 24 hours
after you book
– We will not charge you for call centre bookings
– We will not overbook your flight
– We will not charge you for two checked bags
