27 people injured on Continental 767-200 flight

Continental Airlines’ (Houston) flight CO 128 operating with Boeing 767-224 ER N76156 (msn 30435) with 168 passengers and crew from Rio de Janeiro to Houston (Bush Intercontinental) diverted and made an emergency landing at Miami after hitting clear air turbulence en route. The airliner landed safely at MIA at 0545 local time Monday. 27 passengers and crew were injured with five being transported to area hospitals. Four are listed as “serious” in local hospitals. Passengers are being rebooked on other flights to Houston.

First Air (Ottawa) has taken delivery of its first ex-American Airlines Boeing 767-223 (F) registered C-GKLY (msn 22314). The new freighter was delivered to the Ottawa base on June 5.

Scanderbeg Air (New York-JFK) is a new tour operator that has contracted with Sky King Airlines (Sacramento) to operate an ex-Air China/ABX Air Boeing 767-2J6 ER registered N712AX (msn 23307, ex B-2551) on weekly scheduled charter flights between New York (JFK) and Tirana. ย N712AX was delivered to Sky King on June 2. ย N712AX is Sky King’s first wide-body airliner. ย The first flight for Scanderbeg started on June 12. The company also operates twice-weekly scheduled charter flights on the JFK-Prishtina route ย with the same aircraft starting on June 14. ย The airliner carries “Scanderbeg” titles and still wears a basic Air China livery with a red logo.

ATI-Air Transport International (Little Rock) on June 15 will start operating a Boeing 767-200 (SF) for ACMI operations for QANTAS Airways between Australia and New Zealand.

Safi Airways (Kabul) will add its first route to Europe on June 15 when it launches three flights between Kabul and Frankfurt with Boeing 767-200 equipment.

Continental Airlines (Houston) will resume seasonal service on the Newark-Athens route on May 2 running through September 7, 2009. The route will be assigned to the Boeing 767-200 ER.

US Airways reinstates the Charlotte-Paris route

US Airways (Phoenix) yesterday restored after a eight-year hiatus the Charlotte-Paris (CDG) route. The route will be flown with Boeing 767-200s.

El Al to add Tel Aviv-Luton flights on May 3

El Al Israel Airlines (Tel Aviv) will add the Tel Aviv-London (Luton) route (six times weekly) on May 3. The flag carrier will assign Boeing 767s to the route.

US Airways is tentatively awarded Rio route

US Airways (Phoenix) has been tentatively awarded the Charlotte-Rio de Janeiro route. The new route, subject to final approvals, will originate in Philadelphia and will operate with Boeing 767-200s starting in the fall 2009.
