United Airlines’ pilots are going to get a major pay increase if the new contract is approved by its members.

ALPA issued this statement:

On June 24, the United Master Executive Council representing 14,000 United Airlines pilots, as represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, Intโ€™l (ALPA), voted to approve a tentative agreement (TA) on modified terms for their collective bargaining agreement. The TA will now be sent out to the membership for ratification. If ratified, the TA will generate an additional $1.3 billion of value for United pilots over the course of the two-year agreement. Approval by a majority of the voting membership is needed for ratification and voting closes July 15, 2022.

Highlights include:

  • No changes to the number of permitted 76, 70, or 50 seat regional aircraft or changes to job protections related to international flying
  • Three pay rate increases totaling more than 14.5% within 18 months, retroactive to the start of 2022
  • Enhanced overtime compensation and premium pay
  • Significant improvements to reserve scheduling and pay provisions
  • Improved trip construction parameters to combat pilot fatigue
  • New quality of life improvements to provide increased pilot schedule flexibility
  • Creation of a new tax-advantaged retirement plan
  • A new 8-week paid maternity leave benefit
  • Improvements to long term disability benefits
  • Improved training compensation
  • Enhanced instructor, evaluator, and line check pilot compensation to increase training capacity to meet Unitedโ€™s unprecedented hiring and growth plans

โ€œThis agreement raises the bar for all airline pilots and leads the industry forward,โ€ said Capt. Michael Hamilton, Chair of ALPAโ€™s United pilot group. โ€œOur ability to reach this agreement, and the current success of United Airlines, is driven by front-line United pilots who stayed unified and focused throughout negotiations despite the incredible challenges we faced during the largest disruption in the history of aviation.โ€

British Airways to showcase the BEA A319 at the Jersey Air Display

Ferried SNN-LHR, in service LHR-MAN March 4, 2019, in 1959 BEA retro livery

British Airways has made this announcement:

Jersey residents will step back in time when British Airways celebrates 100 years of flying with a nostalgic entry in this yearโ€™s International Air Display on September 12.

One of the airlineโ€™s heritage aircraft, an Airbus A319 in the former British European Airways (BEA) livery, will take part in the flypast, one of the highlights of the Jersey show which attracts more than 25,000 visitors.

The A319, registration G-EUPJ, has been painted to mark British Airwaysโ€™ centenary and is one of a collection of four heritage aircraft with vintage livery.

BEA flew predominantly on domestic and European routes between 1959 and 1968. However, there is one significant difference with the replica; the aircraft has a grey upper wing, rather than the traditional red, to meet current wing paint reflectivity requirements.

The historic lookback during the air show will continue on the ground where British Airwaysโ€™ ambassadors in various heritage uniforms will welcome visitors to the show. There will be a special Club Europe fare on offer and a chance to win flights from Jersey to Milan, a new destination from London Gatwick this year.

British Airways operates a year-round service to Gatwick from Jersey, with 34 departures a week.

The airline has a long association with Jersey which began in 1933 when Jersey Airways, a forerunner of BEA and British Airways, launched its new route from Portsmouth. Until Jersey Airport opened in March 1937, the aircraft arriving on the island landed on the beach at St Aubinโ€™s Bay.

The airline will be working with expert partners to identify BAโ€™s 100 Great Britons; the people up and down the country who are currently shaping modern Britain, and of course, the year would not be complete without some special flying and moments for customers.

The centenary activity is taking place alongside the airlineโ€™s current five-year ยฃ6.5bn investment for customers. This includes the installation of the best quality WiFi and power in every seat, fitting 128 long-haul aircraft with new interiors and taking delivery of 72 new aircraft. The airline will also be introducing new Club World seat with direct aisle access later this year.

British Airways’ first early morning flight in 20 years takes off from Inverness

British Airways made this announcement:

The first British Airways early-morning flight between Inverness and London Heathrow for more than two decades took off from the Highland capital this morning.

BA Heathrow Flight

British Airways customers were piped on board the aircraft by members of the Inverness Royal British Legion Pipe Band which, like the airline, is celebrating its centenary this year.

The service was operated by an Airbus A319 aircraft registration G-EUPJ, in the heritage livery of BEA, part of British Airwaysโ€™ centenary celebrations.

The new Heathrow โ€“ Inverness schedule will see a 30 percent increase in capacity on the route and brings the number of flights up to three return services on Saturdays and Sundays, with a double daily service Monday to Friday. From October British Airways will operate a double daily service between the two cities seven days a week.

This morningโ€™s flight means that, for the first time since the route was reintroduced in 2016, British Airways customers will be able to travel between the two cities and return the same day, a major boost to the regionโ€™s business sector.

British Airways unveils its second retro livery – BEA

British Airways announced on social media (below) the arrival of its second retro livery as part of BA100. Airbus A319-131 G-EUPJ (msn 1232) now wears the livery of predecessor BEA – British European Airways.

The skies may be grey, but G-EUPJ is gleaming in her retro BEA livery. Thanks IAC Ltd for doing such a great job!

The airline also issued this more formal statement:

  • A319, reg G-EUPJ, arrived at Heathrow this morning in British European Airways colors
  • The aircraft will fly domestic and European routes, heading first to Manchester
  • British Airways is painting selected aircraft in heritage designs to mark its centenary

Monday March 4, 2019 โ€“ British Airways today unveiled the second in its series of heritage liveries โ€“ a British European Airways (BEA) design on an Airbus A319 โ€“ as it touched down at Heathrow this morning.

The arrival drew large crowds to Shannon, where the aircraft was painted, and Heathrow, British Airwaysโ€™ home.

The A319, registration G-EUPJ, is adorned with the BEA livery, which flew predominantly on domestic and European routes between 1959 and 1968. However, there is one significant difference with the replica; the aircraft will have a grey upper wing, rather than the traditional red, to meet current wing paint reflectivity requirements.

The aircraft, which has been painted to mark British Airwaysโ€™ centenary, enters service this afternoon with its maiden commercial flight in its new colors to Manchester. After this, it will continue to fly routes across the UK and Europe, with the design remaining on the aircraft until it retires next year. As with the British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) liveried 747, the aircraft can be followed using tracking website Flightradar24, which will feature a special image of the livery.

The BEA liveried A319 is the second aircraft with heritage designs to enter the British Airways fleet following the arrival of its BOAC 747 long-haul counterpart last month. Next to arrive with be another 747, this time with a British Airways Landor livery. And one final design will be revealed later this month as the airline celebrates its past while looking to the future.

In its centenary year British Airways is hosting a range of activities and events. As well as looking back, the airline is also hosting BA 2119 – a program, which will lead the debate on the future of flying and explore the future of sustainable aviation fuels, the aviation careers of the future and the customer experience of the future.

G-EUPJ has now arrived at the London Heathrow base.
