WOW Air to start service to New Delhi, India in December

Wow Air will launch its much anticipated flight service from the U.S. to Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) in New Delhi, India via Iceland beginning on December 5, 2018.

To celebrate, Wow Air is offering one-way tickets to the Indian capital for $199*.

The one-way $199* sale price tickets to DEL will be available from Boston (BOS), Washington D.C./Baltimore (BWI), New York (EWR), Chicago (ORD), Detroit (DTW), Los Angeles (LAX), and San Francisco (SFO) via Iceland (KEF).

At the end of 2018, the airline will offer service to New Delhi from Boston (BOS), Chicago (ORD), Detroit (DTW), New York (EWR), Los Angeles (LAX), Pittsburgh (PIT), San Francisco (SFO), St. Louis (STL), and Washington D.C./Baltimore (BWI).

Wow Air will use brand new Airbus A330neo aircrafts on the Delhi route, which are outfitted with WOW premium seats offering at least 37 inches of legroom.

Shenzhen Airlines to launch flights to London Heathrow

Shenzhen Airlines on October 30, 2018 is planning to launch a long-range route from Shenzhen to London (Heathrow).

The new route will be operated three days a week with Airbus A330-300 aircraft.

Shenzhen is located near Hong Kong.

The airline was established in November 1992, and operated its first flight on September 17, 1993 with Air China and Total Logistics (Shenzhen) Co., Ltd. as shareholders.

SAS upgrades Boston to daily departures

Starting with the 2019 summer program, SAS will offer departures every day to Boston from Copenhagen. From four departures a week, SAS will fly daily.

More SAS flights to Boston. To meet growing demand from both business travelers and holidaymakers, SAS will operate daily flights starting with the 2019 summer program.

SAS will have daily departures from May 6 to September 27, 2019.

Following a short break in the winter program, the route will re-open in the summer program when demand is particularly strong.

The route re-opens on March 31, 2019 with four weekly departures. From May 6 to September 27, 2019 SAS will have daily departures from Copenhagen and Boston.

Turkish Airlines posts $258 million operating net profit in the first half of 2018

Turkish Airlines has made this announcement:

Turkish Airlines total revenue increased significantly during the first half of the year approximately by 30 percent compared to the same period of last year, reaching $6 billion. Thus, having displayed a remarkable growth performance in 2017, Turkish Airlines managed to increase both passenger and cargo revenue in the first half of 2018.

During the first half of the year, Turkish Airlines managed to increase net operating profit up from $17 million to $258 million, due to the increasing demand and unit revenues despite the increasing fuel prices.

In the first half of the year, EBITDAR (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, amortization and rent), which is used as a cash generation indicator, stood at $1.28 billion, with a 38 percent increase. EBITDAR margin improved by 1.5 percentage points to 21.5 percent. This value is the highest first half EBITDAR value that Turkish Airlines, that continues to be one of the most profitable airlines in the sector, has so far achieved.

During the first half of the year, total Load Factor climbed 4.3 percentage points to 80.4%, recording the highest load factor in Turkish Airlines history for the first half. During the same period, increase in total number of passengers carried, capacity (available seat kilometer) and demand (revenue per kilometer) was 18 percent, 9 percent and 16 percent, respectively, over the same period of last year. Turkish Airlines carried more than 35 million passengers during this period. According to International Air Transport Association (IATA) first five month figures, the global aviation sector realized capacity growth of 6 percent and demand growth of 7 percent.

Turkish Airlines, which continues to strengthen its identity as a leading global airline with its ever-expanding flight network and the implementation of other significant investments, currently operates flights to 49 domestic and 255 international destinations, a total of 304 destinations in 122 countries, along with Freetown, Samarkand, Krasnodar and Moroni, which have launched within this year.

The fleet of Turkish Airlines, one of the youngest and most modern in the world, operates a total of 325 aircraft, comprising 215 narrow body, 92 wide body and 18 cargo aircraft, as of today. Investing in the most advanced and environmentally friendly new generation aircraft, Turkish Airlines aims to reach a fleet of 500 aircraft by 2023.

Hainan Airlines will receive a new Airbus A330-300

Hainan Airlines will receive another Airbus A330-300 aircraft by the end of July. It will be the first aircraft that Hainan Airlines introduces this year, which is also be the 18^th new A330-300 aircraft of the fleet.

The airline continued;

Since 1993, Hainan Airlines has achieved 25 years of safe operations and has accumulated over six million hours of safe flights. Hainan Airlines’ fleet is composed mainly of Boeing 737s and 787s as well as Airbus 330s. The introduction of A330 aircraft will improve the capacity of Hainan Airlines. The size of wide body jets of the company will also be expanded after the new A330 joined.

This Airbus A330-300 is able to contain 303 passengers, containing 279 seats in economy class and 24 seats in business class. All the business class seats feature herringbone that allow passengers to enjoy lie-flat beds and highly increased privacy, with direct access to the aisle. All 279 passengers can experience Thales Avant in-flight entertainment system, power supply of 110V and USB port.

Tianjin Airlines is also receiving a new A330-300 aircraft from Toulouse on July 17^th, initially serving flights from Tianjin to Tokyo and Osaka, and planning flights from Tianjin, Xi’an, Chongqing to London, Melbourne, Sydney and Auckland. The new aircraft will help improve the capacity of Tianjin Airlines in the future.

New setup for Eurowings Group; Eurowings and Brussels Airlines to have new roles

After first successes of joint projects, Eurowings and Brussels Airlines will take the next decisive steps in the integration process, defining each other’s roles within the Eurowings Group.

Taking the expertise and strengths of both entities into consideration, Brussels Airlines will become the long-haul competence center of the Eurowings Group, steering all long-haul activities of the entire group out of Brussels. Next to that, the airline will actively participate in the Eurowings Group pan-European growth strategy by becoming the operator for the expansion to other airport bases in the French- and Dutch-speaking part of Europe.

“The successful launch of Eurowings long-haul flights operated by Brussels Airlines out of Düsseldorf to New York, Fort Myers and Miami last April, reconfirms the long-haul expertise of the Brussels based airline,” said Eurowings Group CEO Thorsten Dirks. “In only five months Eurowings and Brussels Airlines have managed to set up a long-haul base at Düsseldorf, strengthening the group in one of its key German airports,” he added.

In parallel, Eurowings – focusing on European point-to-point traffic – will steer the entire short-haul portfolio of the Eurowings Group from Cologne.

Dirks: “Joining forces with Brussels Airlines will not only strengthen our position as the #3 low-cost carrier in Europe but also spur further Eurowings Group growth in the future”, specifies Thorsten Dirks.

Both airlines will continue to operate long-haul and short-haul flights out of their respective bases Brussels, Cologne, Düsseldorf and Vienna.

This also means that even though two competence centers are being created at Brussels and Cologne, there will remain functions for both long-haul and short-haul operations at both locations. Implementation of the new setup is planned for 2019. Eurowings Group already operates from more than 20 European bases today.

“Brussels Airlines is recognized for its expertise and for the value it adds to the Eurowings Group. We will continue building on our assets to become an even more important player within the group, while remaining Belgium’s strong home carrier and continuing to focus on our guests,” adds Christina Foerster, CEO of Brussels Airlines.

Virgin Atlantic to cease flying between Dubai and London Heathrow

Virgin Atlantic Airways has announced that it will withdraw flights between Dubai and London Heathrow from March 31, 2019.

After conducting a thorough review of its network, the airline has made the difficult decision to stop flying between Dubai and London due to a combination of external factors which mean it is no longer economically viable.

Shai Weiss, Chief Commercial Officer for Virgin Atlantic, said: “It‘s never an easy decision to withdraw a route, and we’d like to thank our customers and dedicated team in Dubai for their loyalty over the last 12 years. We’ll continue to offer daily flights between Dubai and London Heathrow until March 31, 2019, and will be sad to say goodbye to this fantastic city.”

SAS opens a new route from Copenhagen to Hong Kong

In October, SAS will open a new route from Copenhagen to Hong Kong. This means that the route that currently flies from Stockholm, Arlanda, to Hong Kong, will be moved to Copenhagen, Kastrup, starting from the 2018 winter program.

Since launching the route three years ago, SAS has faced challenges when it comes to profitability on the Stockholm-Hong Kong route. However, thanks to a new airport slot, SAS will now be able to offer a more attractive timetable with in demand night flights to and from Hong Kong.

In order to be able to exploit the new airport slot and offer a night flight to Scandinavia from Hong Kong, the route needs to be flown from Copenhagen for operational reasons.

SAS will fly from Copenhagen to Hong Kong five days a week with good connections from Stockholm, the rest of Scandinavia and the whole of northern Europe. The opportunity to fly from Copenhagen offers good long-term market prospects with a large catchment area and operational advantages.

Hainan Airlines successfully completes its inaugural Beijing-Edinburgh-Dublin flight

Hainan Airlines’ flight HU749, which departed from Beijing, smoothly landed at Edinburgh Airport at 6:00 am on June 12, 2018. After a brief stop, it took off again and landed at Dublin Airport at 9:10 am local time on June 12. This was the first arrival of direct flight from mainland China at both Edinburgh and Dublin airports. The flight also marked the success of the maiden voyage of the carrier’s route from Beijing to Edinburgh and Dublin, the first nonstop service between mainland China,Scotland and Ireland.

The launch includes two new routes: Beijing–Edinburgh–Dublin–Beijing and Beijing–Dublin–Edinburgh–Beijing services, providing passengers travelling among China, Britain and Ireland with more convenient travel options.

Beijing Capital International Airport has established sister airport relationships with both Edinburgh and Dublin airports.

Hainan Airlines has also rolled out extensive combined transport offerings of the new routes with its overseas airline partners with the aim of meeting the diversified needs of passengers. Travelers will benefit from convenient transfer, combined transport services and be provided with more destination options. In addition, to offer passengers a better travel experience, Hainan Airlines will launch products including multiple round-trip ticket packages as well as pick-up and delivery shuttle services for business-class passengers.

Wow Air announced it will launch new connecting routes from the U.S. to Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) in Delhi, India via Iceland.
